When the Giant walked in, Volodja could see the crowd moving away from his path. Giant's reputation seemed to work like a bulldozer, so he could easily get a new job in ranks of riot police. He just has to appear on the street during mass riot and do nothing at all - just sight of him makes everyone decide to go home and be reasonable for the rest of their lifetime. He could not resist a temptation of winking to the Giant and say through EGO channel:
"Better go fast before all crowd will pee in their pants. Half of them already did, it I assume. We will be following you. When we reach there, we will walk on tip toes. What most of Dark Matter don't know, won't hurt US. Their ignorance will be our bliss. Infiltrating, hacking and et cetera is Chief's solo act. At least I think it will be, unless he decides otherwise. I brought my well fitting Defiance Few reckon gear along, but since we are in San Francisco soon, wearing it might bring even more complications." He chuckled. "If Chief decides go solo, then it's up to you and me to cover him from suitable positions. Nobody guards our trucks though, but maybe we figure out how to protect them from uninvited guests without our presence there. What do you think Chief?"
He looked at Taffer, waiting his reaction to his suggestions. Then he looked the crowd who started to act less tense after Giant has left. "You lucky sons of bitches," somebody muttered. "Harbinger of Death changed his mind about you." Volodja kept quiet about Giant's real intentions. No need to correct crowd's misinterpretation of the situation. It lets Giant to keep his reputation and if world must know about Giant's new buddies, they will be informed about that when time is right. Then he nodded to Taffer, said: "Time to go" entered his truck and headed towards Downtown area.

"Hey folks", the team suddenly heard Vo Kshaa's voice, "I've heard you're heading to the Downtown, so I've done some scouting around. Everything seems quiet around the area, just some patrols but nothing special. The Pyramid entrance is protected by a forcefield as usual. The only thing that surprised me — Delores Park is occupied by mutants now, which is strange, I thought it's a Dark Matter territory as well". "Good job Vo, stay around there, but don't draw their attention to you", Taffer sent back, and said to Volodja, doubling his voice over the EGO comm "Let's move then. The meeting point in the north-west corner of the Downtown area. As far as I know, not the entire building is protected by the force field, only its entrances are, and probably the bunker entrance too. But I also know there's a back door from the side we're meeting at. We'll need a grappling hook, and surprisingly I have one. Old thief's arsenal you know. Speaking of guarding our trucks, I think Vo Kshaa wouldn't mind to do this job for us".

"You think about everything. That makes you the Chief," admitted Volodja behind the steering wheel "I know where Giant's talents become most handy - our final destination will be his power play arena. We could sneak in disguised as Dark Matter and Giant could play Bulwark, but it won't help us carry that tech to our trucks without being detected. Even if we use portals, it takes too long time, so we MUST eliminate most of our opponents in storage area. One can't reason with Dark Matter and I don't think that I could create decent scam plot for them. Transportation is way too time consuming to play it in believable manner. Sooner or later our cover will be blown. So the Giant will be our tank and we can rob the dead bodies, he leaves behind. I think, he likes that idea, but I don't want him to get hurt during process. So don't hesitate to tell if you have something better in mind."
Volodja parked his truck to first suitable spot, grabbed binoculars and started recognizing the landscape. Although there supposed to be only few patrols there, as Vo has told them, news about mutant activity made him worry. If they had a turf war with Dark Matter nearby it might be positive to their cause by drawing Dark Matter attention to different direction. But it might ruin their plans as well if their team gets caught in crossfire. That would be very stupid way to die. Everything seemed peaceful at moment, but Volodja told his dear Sophie to keep her "eyes" open for anything while he drives to their meeting place. Fortunately he avoided conflict situations on his way and arrived to north-west corner in Downtown where he was supposed to meet rest of the team.

Vo Kshaa joined the team on his ATV when they parked their trucks, and shared the detailed information he had gathered. Dark Matter in Downtown were expecting the mutants attack them or Woga Base from Delores Park, but they definitely were not expecting to be attacked from northwestern side where their Woga Base was located. The convoy safely circled around the Downtown area and stopped as close to the Pyramid building as it was possible to, while still remaining unnoticed. Taffer looked around again carefully through the mid-range scope of his Heavy Carbine to ensure the enemy camp is still quiet. "Okay people", Taffer whispered "There are two destroyed parking garages here around the Pyramid which look left unattended. They appear be good sniping spots. The one to the left has a good view on a large breach in a Pyramid's wall, from which we could move down our loot to the trucks. From the one to the left you can clearly see the entrance on the second floor, so you can protect me from unwanted visitors while I'm downloading the map and searching for the bunker entrance. So please take both and monitor our enemies' activity. But be careful though, there could be traps or movement detectors there. I'm going to grapple and climb the construction from this corner, there's a small breach in the wall which I can use to get in, bypassing the force field. Vo, could you please guard our trucks and make sure we won't be attacked from behind? I'll call if I need anyone's help". Having said that, he took his most trusted infiltration weapons — the Heavy Carbine and the silenced TACC Autopistol. Then he sneaked to the Pyramid's corner and threw a grappling hook onto the beam. He swiftly climbed it and looked around. Having ensured that venture went unnoticed, he sneaked along the beams a little further and found another good spot to throw a grappling hook and climb. "Nice view", he said to himself, suppressing the urge to wave to his teammates, knowing they are monitoring his movement even without any special effects and it could attract unnecessary attention from their enemies. He followed the catwalk and found a small breach wide just enough to squeeze through. He quickly made note of the patrols going around on that floor of the building, turned on his Cloak and slipped inside.

In left side garage Volodja was down on his stomach, Ranger tightly against his shoulder, carefully observing the area. His left eye was closed and right one looked the world through telescope sight. Chief made his way up skilfully. "Always good to work with professionals," Volodja thought, when figure of patrolling Enforcer appeared on his sight. Few more seconds and he discovers climbing Taffer. Volodja zoomed in and...
...he was laying on thick bushes, holding sniper rifle in his hands and watching as four men stand in a mall opening. Two of them held third one by his arms, one of them holding gun against his head, while fourth guy, equipped with a pistol, questioned him about whereabouts of their squad. Volodja knew that guy won't talk first when they torture him, but he also knew that he will open his mouth when they bring there his family members and start to mutilate them. Guy was from nearby village. Whole his family lived there and Volodja visited them often and became to like these simple, harmless people who worked hard on their field. Volodja was aware that soldiers who captured his friend, knew about his folks and ruthless as they are, they will bring his family members here and use them for making his friend to talk.
Through his sight Volodja saw hesitation on his friend's face, a struggle between sense of duty and love for his close ones and silent plea in his eyes when he started to give up his fight and talk, condemning his remaining squad mates to certain death. Despising himself for what he was about to do, Volodja aimed carefully and pulled the trigger. Bullet hit the side of his friend and co fighter, making him scream from pain and fear. Then he fell to the ground. Soldiers jumped to different directions, holding their firearms, but it did not save them. One of them got bullet straight to his head and smashed to the ground immediately. Second one managed to get few badly aimed shots from his gun, but Volodja's shot took him down. An officer tried to escape, but Volodja's next two bullets hit his back. He splashed down to nearby creek.
Volodja went to opening and checked his friend wound. It was not a dangerous one. He knew what he did, when he aimed him. Couple of days and guy is back on his feet and he was the one who HAD to get hit first. Otherwise he would talk or officer would shot him right after his first soldier was killed. Or soldiers would kill him when Volodja shoots their officer. No good options there. Only bad ones, meaning that somebody gets hurt anyway. And Volodja shot to save him, not to kill. But it didn't erase the fact that Volodja shot his friend. He had to do it and he did. He chose less evil thing to do, but there was still no forgiveness for his deed...
...ever since Volodja asked from himself, when using sniper rifle: "Is it absolutely necessary?" Most of time it was. By killing enemies, he saved lives of his close ones. And this was just one of these cases so he held his breath, captured head of Enforcer middle of cross-hair and squeezed the trigger. Nobody noticed him to fall.

...meanwhile... some stir started at Downtown. Dark Matter soldiers suddenly became very buzy and made quite a fuss trying to get to some target. Even sniper on the tower jumped from his cloak exposing himself completely but he apparently just forgot about danger hurrying to shoot someone. Some man in camouflage ran short dashes between walls shooting everything on his way: enforcers, barrels, monitors, barrels, snipers and turrets. Oh, and barrels. "This is how I do it." a man muttered as he blew up next two barrels and methodically started to put a bullets into couple of enforces. Moving along his rather chaotic route, the man did not forget to turn off DM generators. One very lonely and very hapless bulwark tried to fulfill its enemy elimination program but it only had time to give a one kick to the man in camouflage which only angered him. After short and painful flight the man returned spraying a revenge riding on his bullets. He stepped over the junk pile which was a robot a second ago, turned off the last generator and rushed to the pyramid entrance. To his surprise there was only one person it the room and this was not a dark matter soldier. "Scrugging shit!" the man muttered. "I should have known better." Then he said loudly: "Taffer you shady bastard! What are you doing here?" Suddenly the radar become dotted with red spots and air filled with tramping and swearing. Some very surprised enforcers came down from the upper floor and called a backup immediately so there was no time for additional talk and the camouflaged man started to shoot again.

"Well," thought Volodja: "When you are in middle of covert operation, somebody always rushes in with his guns blazing and creates a mess which we have to clear. All for the sake of creating impressive entrance." So he turned his Ranger towards enemy troops, rushing from doors, and started to take them out one by one, aiming carefully and not wasting any ammo. No time to hesitate when things get hot.
"Shoot Giant!" he yelled through EGO channel "And don't hit that dumb fuck, who screwed everything up for us. At least not yet. I want to know, who he is and why he chose this place to create a living hell!"
And he kept shooting approaching Dark Matter, hoping that Taffer manages to survive, download plans they needed and screw up the Dark Matter security system. Or at least two out of free. Giant accompanied him and Volodja was sure, he heard the Giant saying something about tearing somebody's foot off and stuffing it down from owners throat.
Load...aim...shoot. That was all they had left to do to keep enemy away from Taffer. Volodja got to his knees and kept firing. He was prepared for the wave of unnecessary violence anyway, but expected it to happen later...much much later. But if he stops shooting, that "later" may never come to Taffer.

"You're right in time Raizar, even a bit too fast", Taffer muttered with sarcasm as he entered his cloak again. He had just cleaned up the second floor quietly, downloaded the bunker plan, got some bad news from it and was about to finish uploading his 'entertainment' software to the security system. He was aware of what was going on outside but thought it could be a good decoy to keep Dark Matter busy for a moment. His software was aimed to suppress the emergency calls between posts, switch their monitors to some porn channel, then load some control consoles with Asteroids arcade game and turn other consoles into gambling machines. He succeeded with call suppression and porn, but Raizar appeared in the main building too fast. Taffer had not finished with games yet, so someone could still access the console to investigate what happened and also catch some traces he had not cleaned up yet. This had to be finished up and fast, but the intense fight came first.
Taffer took the position behind the column, from where he had a clear view of Raizar who was trying to bottleneck troops coming from the upper floor. He shot several bursts at the upcoming enemies' heads, noting that the Dark Matter portal standing in the corner was still silent and no one came from the elevator from the lower level. It evidenced to him that the call suppression was truly working and soldiers in the bunker and Woga Base were still oblivious to what was happening.
"Vo, power up the vehicles and watch the direction from Woga Base. Yell if there's more Dark Matter coming in from there", He said to his friend, feeling that he might jump off his post and come to help, but leave their rear unguarded. "Nice shooting everyone", he added to the team, seeing more Dark Matter falling from sniper shots from outside. He pulled out his TACC Autopistol and made a double-headshot to the Enforcer who tried to use the console he was hacking a moment before and had to roll away quickly as his EGO informed him of grenade falling nearby from up above.

While fighting at Volodja's side I see some mutants nearby and get an idea, so I whisper, "Fool. Get ready to fallback a little and cloak. I have an Idea."
I then start climbing some nearby rock ledgings, and while doing so, I send Taffer a message. "Taffer I hope that guy is a friend and can fight. We may find out soon enough. You know me!" I cloak as soon as I reach the top ledge and fire at the Mutants, from my angle the shot appears to be coming from the Dark Matter. So the Mutants start rushing in. I turn the other direction and see a small colony of hellbugs with a Monarch, as well as some scrappers nearby. I get on my comm, so my team can hear, as I talk to Volodja. "Hmm this is going to be a bigger distraction than I thought. Fool cloak and get out of there NOW!"
I then line up a shot and fire on the hellbugs a couple times drawing them into the battle. Then I do the same with the scrappers. Then get back on comm. "Now for the real fun! Alright, I brought Mutants, scrappers and bugs to the party! Stay back. Watch the carnage. Keep the team safe, and pick off any enemy survivors or stragglers. I will stay up here, and continue to enjoy my carnage! Taffer go ahead and finish up. I have your back."
I then look through my scope, towards Taffer's location. The stranger seems to be guarding his back for now. Let us hope it stays that way. Then I see a DM sniper lining up a shot on Taffer, so I scope in and...BAM! No head for that sniper! Then I do the same with the sniper's partner, as I start my sadistic and maniacal laughter over the comms.

There was no time for using stairs. But no way Volodja will jump down from the top of the garage. He is not a superhero after all and will end up with broken bones. So instead of cloaking he put his blur on, run downstairs, exit the garage and made his way to Taffer's rope. "Can I join you, Chief?", he asked politely. "Giant enjoys those gladiator games, he arranged and I don't want to ruin his fun. I might be more useful inside and keep bad guys away from stepping on your your nimble fingers."
Volodja grabbed the hanging rope and started to climb, showing significant experience. He was a curious man after all, and during his life he used loads of clever methods to gain access to variety of forbidden places. Taffer's rope was one of easiest, so he managed to join Taffer and that unknown hotheaded soldier quite fast (although his years and weight slowed him down a bit). Sniper rifle was useless inside, so he switched to his heavy bird shot pump and moved closer. Dark Matter portal was one of his worries at moment. If Dark Matter decides to activate it, then unknown hothead will be trapped between two sets of enemies, but Volodja already developed an idea, how to secure that treacherous rear entrance, so he took some time to set up a simple booby trap by hanging couple of his bio grenades right in front of the portal. If someone enters now, he makes them fall. Bio grenades can do nasty things with one's shield and that dark brown sticky pond they create slows down anyone who steps into it, so his team mates and that battle plan ruining stranger can react adequately. Then he blocked that elevator door with some crates so nobody could enter from there without making some noise. "Wish I had some land mines," he sighed. "That would be nice double indemnity." He informed Taffer and Giant about his defensive measures right away to avoid accidental death of his friends.
After that he moved close to Taffer, ready to protect him at any cost. As long as enemy will be the one, who pays the bill. He was not worried about the Giant. Big guy can handle the situation perfectly. Only problem will be slowing him down if he gets carried away. And keeping his new friend's feet on the ground seemed to become Volodja's task lately.

As Volodja quickly climbed Taffer's rope, I fired a bullet that zipped by his foot and nailed an Enforcer, that noticed Volodja, right between the eyes. I kept him protected until he was safely in the building.
Then I move my position, a little, to see into the lower level of the building and I see some men heading to the elevator to get out of the battle. So I aim and fire, my Calling Bird's corrosive bullet hitting the elevator's first floor call button, disabling that panel. While keeping an eye on my team mates and the new guy, I watch my carnage and continue to snipe anything heading or looking towards the floor that they are on. I also of course make sure that my location doesn't get compromised as I continue to kneel on my rocky perch.

Volodja could hear Giant's laughter again. That was a good omen, meaning that everything was fine outside. Situation inside was much harder, because hothead didn't bother to stay in cover. He kept blocking Volodja's line of fire and making sudden moves so Volodja had to be very careful to avoid shooting him by accident.
"Quit squirming like a worm and fight more rationally," Volodja said with intentional calmness "Don't get carried away and keep it cool. Can't get a decent aim here if you keep jumping around...Much better." His shot smashed another Enforcer against the wall and then his lifeless body slide down and remained there in sitting stance.
"Appreciate that, hothead. Chief! How are you doing? Is everything done?" was his next line, while he kept shooting another bunch of enemies. "Just warn me when you change position so I can follow and keep you protected. That lets you to concentrate on our main goal." He lowered himself quickly to take cover behind a desk and avoid bullet burst from Dark Matter. Missed! At least him, but they hit a wall behind Volodja covering it with tiny holes and raising some dust puffs, making Volodja to cough.
Instead of getting up, Volodja slid his body sideways and laying on his side, he shot couple of rounds from the end of that table, staying close the floor. He saw Enforcer's head jolting backward when shots hit the slope of his chin. Then he pulled himself back to cover while bullets hit the floor right there, where his body was just a few seconds ago. "Never stop surprise your enemies," he stated.
Taffer was about to change his position. Volodja noticed it and prepared to follow him. Before they started to move, Volodja made a shot to the ceiling, causing thick cloud of white chalk dust to appear. This improvised smoke screen allowed them to move to their next location without being noticed by enemies, so Taffer could continue hacking and he could continue his bodyguard assignment without getting hit while they were on their way. Crouching behind the new cower he started to reload his shotgun. "Use environment for your advantage and keep a count on your ammo if you want to stay alive," was his next remark, while his fingers inserted new set of shells into his shotgun.
Seeing another Enforcer pacing towards them, he dropped his shottie and pulled out his sub machine gun - fully modified Heartbreaker SMG with a bio nano effect. Distance was too long for shottie, but burst from SMG did it's job effectively, by eating Enforcer's shield and making him stagger. Volodja finished him off with last bullets in the clip, pulled himself to cover, changed the empty clip for a new one, put the SMG away and grabbed his shottie again. "Change tactics according to situation. Learn to adapt" was his comment while hiding from bullets.
He was ready for the next move, but this new and unstable character made him concerned. His deeds could make team's survival more difficult. All depends on his further actions whichever they would be.

Well, slow dropping DMs one by one gets boring. And this new guy spent too much time on positioning, may be this could be clever move in case of really hard enemies, but couple of enforcers? And those bullets still were many and annoying. Standing at the middle of the slope was a bit uncomfortable for someone who don't want to be revived more than one time. Raizar released the decoy and pulled a grenade looking at the DMs backs with a wide grin. "Time for a dance party!" he barked loudly, threw an electrical grenade into the middle of DMs mob and jumped forward shooting without a stop. Enforcers fell like a leaves in the wind but suddenly Raizar heard "click-click" instead of shooting sound. "Damn! Ammo's out!" He knocked out the nearest enforcer with his fists, threw another electrical grenade at too smart monitor who gathered a small crowd behind his shield and pulled out an Invader. "At least this can keep them busy for a while" Raizar muttered and rolled back down the slope while bugs and electricity did their work. He glanced at two other men to be sure they are alright and put an ammo spike wondering why there are so many dark matters.

"You know how to improvise, but you underestimate your enemy. For you it seems to be your last battle. For rest of us it is just another battle before our next. We intend to survive. I have been in many famous and less famous last battles and only reason why I am here, is because I was on winning team. And I want it to stay that way," said Volodja to the stranger. "Better watch out and don't get killed. And don't get any of US killed with your actions."
Another burning cloud of shots from his gun hit two attacking Enforcers who run side by side, making them tackling each other and fall to the floor. He made fast jump behind a crate standing by the wall, avoided getting caught by enemy fire and threw in another bio grenade to slow down incoming attackers. While they made their way through bubbling pool of tar, he could easily decimate their rows, so he used that opportunity. Then he resumed his previous position next to Taffer and kept shooting while the Chief reprogrammed another security console.

"We have EGOs, we have guns." Raizar answered simply. He shooted another enemy and added: "We'll survive." He looked at Taffer who still delved in the console wondering what he is up to.
