"Excuse me gentlemen," said Volodja Uljanov on top of the "Garilu". "Looks like we have a same problem as survivors of RMS Titanic in collapsible B lifeboat. Not enough space for everyone, so I volunteer to jump...for selfish reasons. You will follow, once the situation we are looking, is solved." Saying that, Volodja jumped to the swampy ground, grabbed fistful of mud and threw it into open mouth of nearest Sharkadile. "Whatever you are doing right now can wait," he announced through EGO channel, because he spotted something strange when he looked inside Garilu, like people who were supposed to be friends, pointing guns at each other, right before leaping down to the embrace of Sharkadiles. Too late to return to Garilu, but not too late to try and reason with them. So he suggested: "First we are going to take care of the clear and present danger of living, breathing, walking and aggressive leather suitcases. After that we deal with frictions between us and after that, if you don't mind, we are going to continue with our mission." He pulled out his sapper shovel and stuck it between pair of open jaws of the next Sharkadile who was about to bite his hand off, preventing it closing it's mouth. Not very original approach, because Baron von Münchhausen did something similar in one of his stories by luring a hungry lion into the mouth of a hungry crocodile. "I'll get my shovel back," he promised, rolling himself in mud to avoid charging Sharkadile, who couldn't bite anyone any more, but was still dangerous, because it acted like a huge, armoured and damn heavy battering ram. "I hate to cause unnecessary pain even to Sharkadiles, but this time it was a choice between the shovel and my arm and I don't love nature that much to give it a hand or even a finger...In utmost literal meaning, of course. Don't worry Sharkie. I will get my shovel out from your mouth. Sooner or later...I guess, that later," he stated when a strong blow of Sharkadile's tail made him fly several feet and land in a bog with a big splash. "And imagine that I almost promised to avoid trouble," was his peaceful comment from his watery bed. "But the trouble found me instead, so to keep my almost given promise, I must handle this trouble first and then avoid the next one...Except if troubles come like potato chips. You have one and then you can't help but have another after that." So true. Especially when he discovered that he wasn't alone but shared that bog with another Sharkadile who was as hungry and angry as previous one...

"Aren't they cute," said Doctor Euthanasius by the row of cages and adjusting his earplugs. "I believe that these flying friends of mine have a potential to make some fundamental changes in balance of powers. And now I have a golden opportunity to test them in action. If you are thinking that they are going to suck blood, Doris, then you couldn't be more wrong. These former members of Vespertilionidae, Molossidae and Emballonuridae families are capable of producing an ultrasound which affects much larger animals than their ancestors could dream of. Like humans and Votans. From a distance. This lovely batch of bigger, better and not so shy bats who can move in daylight and different climate condition as well, is a result of careful selection, breeding and genetic modifications and although my test subjects can't hear voice of my sirens, they will can sure feel the effect in their heads. Especially when they don't have special earplugs, like we do." Euthanasius, rubbed his hands and continued: "I prefer invisible weapons and hidden approach over conventional weaponry. And that, Doris, makes viruses, bacteria and sounds my best allies. There is a huge difference when someone spots some cutthroats with machine guns or bunch of egg heads setting up advanced technological equipment near the state border. They will get alerted seeing that kind of activity. But who would pay attention to bats? Even if they are larger than usual. Nobody, because no one cares about animals as much...Let's say that I and...Eugen. But why I am throwing pearls in front of you...Even if you try very hard, you couldn't understand the meaning of my work, Doris. Let's give them some freedom of action now. Fly, former children of the night! Let's see what you can do in daylight! Open cages three and five, Eugen!" Chubby old man with, dressed into black suit (which managed to look like it was a bit grimy as it was preserved in some forgotten tomb along it's owner for decades) and a green lab coat moved closer when he heard his name. He had dark, obviously coloured hair with greyish sideburns and his locks were combed back all over his globe. When he opened wide mouth, there were two rows of really white and sharp teeth as in some toothpaste commercial, except they were even whiter and sharper. Eugene nodded in silent agreement. He stepped to the console, found what he wanted there, and pulled squeaking lever (somehow levers always squeak in situations like that), letting cageful of bats out. Then he repeated the operation with another lever and second cageful followed former ones.

Vo expected his EGO to continue arguing with him as he knew she was dedicated to protecting his well-being even when it was secondary for her host, but instead he suddenly heard Dinara's voice, "Mr. Vo! Roll and dodge Atty NOW!!!" Without hesitation he did just that, rolling away from the hatch, aided with Blur Shirra immediately turned on for him, with me squeezing the trigger as he moved so my bullet went through the open sniper's hole he left open in the side of the Garilu. Quickly summing up the situation, Vo opened a floor hatch and fell through it, smashing another unfortunate sharkadile's head with his sonic strike activated. As Vo rolled away, opened the floor hatch and dropped through it, I turned to see where he went. However as I was still trying to figure it out with my enraged mind, Vo came blurring back in.
"Someone promised we'd have a talk," Vo said as he blurred close to me, shortening the distance so that it would be uncomfortable for me to use my pistol so that I was forced to switch to melee using my Amakune blade instead. A sudden thought hit his mind that if Lady remembered what happened in the rover, she might blame herself for that and if that happened, she might not want to get better from her wounds or even stay alive at all. It already happened once on their Moon mission, so the threat was pretty much real. Now he had to pass this message through Atticus's skull and make him understand it before it was too late.
As Vo kept blurring past me, he didn't try to hit me, but merely dodged my attacks, trying to say something when my face was close to his, while I kept trying to decapitate or dismember him as my over-charge wore off.
"You can have your way with me if you want." "But it will only make Lady upset." "Remember what happened on the Moon? Of course you do." "Lady blamed herself for what happened and didn't want to live." "It may happen again this time." "Although she's not guilty in anything, she thought she was kissing YOU." "And it was the only way I could keep her stable before you came." "I have the proof if you care to turn your EGO back on and see it." "Lady has to hear she's not to blame for this and she has to hear it from you." "When she wakes up, she'll need your love, not your rage, to stay alive" "So quit this stupid fight and gather some kind words for your wife when she needs them the most!"
I barely understood most of what he said through my heartbreak and betrayal enraged mind, but I did understand Lady, blame, and love. So for the first time since I verbally assaulted Vo right before I took Lady to the Vigilant, I finally opened my mouth again and what Vo heard could only be described as a ferociously beastly growl as I very angrily snapped, "Lady not to blame! Lady NEVER to blame! All Your fault! Took advantage of Lady! Tried to steal my wife! YOU MUST DIE!"
Just then Sandy dropped through the roof hatch above me and tackled me, letting her weight and her momentum knock me down, but also unfortunately I stumbled and we fell through a floor hatch in the Garilu that had been left open and onto the swampy ground outside.
My head rang from the anger and rage coursing through it at what I THOUGHT I saw, and at the throbbing caused from hitting it as I was knocked through a floor hatch and into the hard ground, with Sandy no longer on my back for some reason that my foggy mind couldn't comprehend. Then as what Vo had said finally started to break through my rage blindness, my head also hurt more from my rage-addled mind being completely confused by this new information.
Sandy had rolled as she fell, firing point blank at a sharkadile after an easy meal, but not finding one in Sandy, as she yelled while the Piper's rad-nanos ate away the reptile's head, "Commander Atticus, sir! I don't know what you're thinking, but Vo is our friend, which he has proven time and again! Whatever you think you saw that makes you think he isn't is either a mistake or a misconception, and I'd bet a year's salary on that! Whatever it is, we can straighten it out later, as we have a damn rescue mission to complete and I left a security squad on top of the Garilu probably wondering what the fuck is going on!"
I heard, "Commander Atticus, sir! I don't know what you're thinking, but Vo is our friend, which he has proven time and again!"
Hearing that I snapped venomously, "NOT A MISTAKE! Friends betray more than enemies do! Learned that long ago!....."
Then I grabbed my head as I was staring to feel all the throbbing in it and after a couple seconds I FINALLY registered the rest of what Sandy had to say, as well as realizing where I was and exactly what Vo was trying to say. Ignoring my angry comment about friends and betrayal, Sandy had continued with, "Whatever you think you saw that makes you think he isn't is either a mistake or a misconception, and I'd bet a year's salary on that! Whatever it is, we can straighten it out later, as we have a damn rescue mission to complete and I left a security squad on top of the Garilu probably wondering what the fuck is going on!"
So I said sternly and angrily, "Fine I get it! Continue to very strongly consider killing Vo while we finish killing Sharkadiles. Next continue to very strongly consider killing Vo while we go save Lena and Lestrange! Then I go to Lady and decide if I still want to rip Vo apart after that!........."
Just then a sharkadile lunged at us and without thinking, I instinctively grabbed one of my throwing knives from their hidden location in the chest-plate of my armor and angrily threw it into the open maw of the beast with it coming out the back. That last angry act seemed to help clear my mind as I reached out and found my Amakune, then rolled from where I lay and stood up. Then I re-activated Dinara as Vo had requested so he could send her the information to proof his innocence.
Then looking at Sandy as I swung my blade at another beast, and with the white glow of my eye slits no longer being supernova bright white but more of a dull white as my rage still lingered but had started to dissipate noticeably, I said a little closer to my usual tone, "A year's salary?! I pay you more than just meager living wages now?! When did that happen?!..."
Then as I retrieved my throwing knife, I said now somewhat mischievously though still with some lingering rage and anger tagging along for the ride even though I am now trying to shake it off, "........Oooooh right I gave you a command promotion. So shouldn't you be leading your team instead of trying to steal a piggyback-ride from your Commander?"
That is also when my now reactivated EGO announced a message from Volo. So he suggested:
"First we are going to take care of the clear and present danger of living, breathing, walking and aggressive leather suitcases. After that we deal with frictions between us and after that, if you don't mind, we are going to continue with our mission."
Then she played for me, all the information that Shirra had started sending her as soon as she registered that Dinara was back online. The more I heard and replayed the message as Sandy and I worked our way back up and into the Garilu, the more my anger and rage at Vo dissipated. So by the time we re-entered the Garilu I was calmer not no longer ready to kill Vo on sight. So when we re-entered the Garilu, I said to a still very shaken Vo in a low remorseful tone, which still seemed foreign to me, "Guess Dinara, Kakusi...and even Katool were right and I should have made you explain yourself before I let the rage build. I can not and will not apologize about how I felt when I was certain Lady was betrayed and taken advantage of. However I didn't mean the hurtful things I said to you about Belle. So I do apologize for that. You obviously didn't deserve that and definitely didn't deserve the loss of life and limbs I tried to grant you and a small part of me still wants to grant you, and probably will up until I am completely certain that Lady is alright. I know you and the others are nothing like what I learned friends were as a child, but seeing you and Lady.........you know what I thought I saw.......it just hurt so much that I couldn't stop myself from returning to those old hard-learned lessons and giving myself to the rage."

After transferring Atticus's orders to the Vigilant and getting the confirmation that both Volo's and Sandy's teams had deployed, Taffer looked around the cockpit of the Riot and noticed that Lu was absent again. He sighed as he moved towards the cargo hold, hoping to see Lu there again, hoping she had not disappeared already. "Lu, didn't I tell you to stay away from the portal?" He asked, noting the familiar silhouette as he entered the hold. "No you didn't," He heard Lu's voice, which was surprisingly calm given the situation and noticed a slight movement of her hand as if she quickly hid something in her pocket. The gesture was almost imperceptible and Taffer probably wouldn't notice it if he wasn't an expert pickpocket himself. He also couldn't help but notice a small spot of yellow paint on her finger. "You told me to stay on the ship, and I'm staying," Lu continued as if nothing happened, "They said about having wounded people and I thought that if Atika is so good with communications and our Sneak Thief in his infinite wisdom didn't include a real medic in our squad so I better play as one and stay close to the portal in case they decide to transfer their wounded not on the Vigilant but on our ship. Things happen, you know, we better be prepared." "So you were waiting by the portal which was set to "out only"? " Taffer asked as he flipped the switch on the portal to "two-way" position. "Look I can understand you probably worry about your brother and you really want to stay with him, but I've just received he confirmation that whatever quarrel they had with Atticus is over so he's safe now. And our small team really needs you here." "Oh yes… Vo… You got me, I was really worried about him," Lu said but the tone of her voice was giving away that it probably was just another excuse Taffer just helped her to make up. "Thanks for sharing this information Captain, I guess I can return to my duties now, whatever they are." She turned away from Taffer as she started her way back to the cockpit. "Lu, are you really sure you don't want to tell me something?" Taffer hated to say something like that to his friends but the feeling that something was going on behind his back was not going away. "Whatever it is, if it affects the safety of our team or family or the success of this mission or if I can help you personally with something, you can just tell me. We can keep it between us two and then we will decide together what we should do with it." Lu quickly turned around, her face looked more than slightly annoyed, "I'm fine Taf, can't you just believe me? Yes, I'm a little tired from all those flights around the world, and more than a little worried about my brother and all of you others too, but don't we all feel like that? I've volunteered for this mission and I'm going to do everything that is needed for it to succeed. Is that simple enough to understand? Your suspicions do not help anything. Sorry that I have to be this straightforward, but you just asked me to be sincere so here it is. Now please let me do some checks so that I, as a pilot can be sure we can take off if needed." Taffer sighed again, seeing his every attempt failed, but still he tried to approach from the other side. "Dash, could you please ask Klimi if she noticed any changes in Lu's behavior that could make her worried? Just please be polite and don't try to push too hard."As Em Dash did what was asked and contacted Lu's EGO, she found the virtual girl sitting cross-legged in the void drawing a picture of some animal. "Looks cute," Dash just could not help but ask, "What animal it is?" "It's Klimi, the animal I was named after," Klimi answered, "That's how Lu sees it I think. She asked me to make a search for tutorials on how to draw animals so I thought I better try them myself before I present what I have found to her. And answering your question — yes, she's perfectly fine. She just thinks she found a way to calm her anxiety and I'm going to help her with that." "Well, she said her host is perfectly fine," Dash reported as she returned to Taffer's head, "But, If you ask me, I'm going to tell her EGO is acting somewhat strangely as well."

Post by Lady Christianna on Aug 18, 2016 7:51:46 GMT
As Captain Kaj sat in the command Chair on the bridge of the Vigilant, a sudden frantic call came from Dr. Michaela "Micha" Quinn in the infirmary as she appeared on the bridge's viewscreen, which began with a loud crash in the background before the human woman said hesitantly, "Uh... we have a small problem here in the infirmary." "Not small. Maybe short," Said a loud young feminine voice in the background, which Kaj immediately recognized as that belonging to Lady Christianna - teenage adventurer, mother of two, longtime team member of the Protectors, and wife to the Commander of the Bay Area Protectors. Dr. Quinn visibly winced, before continuing, "Lady Christianna is insisting that she is fine and is going back through the Dark Matter portal to rejoin her team on the island, and she is well physically, as her EGO has healed her nicely and there is no sign of pathogen," Dr. Orion looked in dismay at something off screen as he yelled urgently, "Don't you leave this room young lady, I've locked the door for your own good - shatko, she just decoyed through the door!" Nervously tugging at a lock of her long lush brown hair, she turned back to the view screen to remark, "Physically, she is okay, but I'm not so sure she is mentally! She keeps saying that she can tell from her pendant that Atticus is hurting and that she also need to go back to get her baby, but I know the twins are still safe back at Fortress Ksahaa and I've not received any word that any of the away team were wounded other than her! My nurses tried to restrain her, but every time someone grabbed her, she would just alter her density and phase through their grip! Is there anything you can do?" The subject of Dr. Quinn's consternation, Lady Christianna continued with a determined step to the cargo bay that housed the Black Matter portal, going insubstantial like a ghost if anyone tried to stop her, and once her EGO power recharged, she blurred the rest of the way until the object of her desire was in her sight. She smiled enigmatically, then pulled from inside her bloodied tunic with one tiny alabaster hand a blinking blue pendant that hung from a fine gold chain necklace around her thin chalk white neck, holding it tightly as she muttered while she prepared the teleportation portal's access with her other, "Coming Atticus. Hold on."

The Doctor continued, "Physically, she is okay, but I'm not so sure she is mentally! She keeps saying that she can tell from her pendant that Atticus is hurting and that she also needs to go back to get her baby, but I know the twins are still safe back at Fortress Ksahaa and I've not received any word that any of the away team were wounded other than her! My nurses tried to restrain her, but every time someone grabbed her, she would just alter her density and phase through their grip! Is there anything you can do?"
Kaj calmly said, "Doctor, Lady and Commander Batman do have some sort of unique telepathy between them that I do not understand. So it is quite possible that she can sense what he is feeling. As for baby, I do believe she is referring to her shotgun as I have heard her refer to it as such before. As for stopping her, I can try, but if she does indeed sense some kind of pain from the Commander, then I doubt I will be able to. Do not worry I will try to get to her before she steps through the portal and I will talk to her. How ever as you said she is physically able to return to duty, so I am certain that the only ones that even have a chance of convincing her to return to the Infirmary are Belle Starr, Commander Taffer and Commander Batman....especially Commander Batman."
Kaj then ended the communication and told Tasha Yar that she had the bridge. Then he quickly booked his huge frame to the Cargo Bay that the active Dark Matter portal is being housed in. As he got there he saw Lady as she smiled enigmatically, then pulled from inside her bloodied tunic with one tiny alabaster hand a blinking blue pendant that hung from a fine gold chain necklace around her thin chalk white neck, holding it tightly as she muttered while she prepared the teleportation portal's access with her other, "Coming Atticus. Hold on."
Kaj stepped up behind her and gently placed his huge purple hand on her small white shoulder as he calmly said, "I do hope you know what you are doing my little friend. You did suffer quite the injury and even though you are physically fine according to the doctor, she is worried that you are not thinking straight given the trauma. We did get a brief message back from Vo saying that whatever was happening on the Garilu is now under control. How ever I will not try to stop you as the doctor says you can sense that the Commander is currently hurting and needs you. Besides given how determined you are, you would probably just walk right through me and I do not want to learn just how odd that experience would feel.
How ever I do need some sort of reassurance from you that you are certain of what you are doing and are thinking correctly. Not just because the doctor needs it or because I need to know it as Captain of the Vigilant, but because you are my friend and as your friend I need to know that you are certain that you know what you are doing before I am comfortable with letting you go back to the Garilu. Besides given how worried and angry the med-team said the Commander appeared to be, despite him never saying any thing to any body, when he brought you back here, I know that if you are not truly capable of returning to the mission, that he will just send you right back here. Even if he has to carry you back through that portal again him self, and he would not be very happy with me for not stopping you in the first place."
Meanwhile on the other side of the portal, thanks to the help of the two commando teams led respectively by Sandy Bell and Volodja Uljanov, the sharkadile attack had finally stopped and the ones that hadn't died finally gave up the fight and retreated. So Atticus was now glaring from behind his helm at Vo still trying to decide if Vo needed to die or if Vo was indeed truthful and that Atticus had been severely mistaken with what he saw and perceived, while Atticus was also filling Volo and Sandy in on what was discovered about Lena, Lestrange and the mansion.
As he was still not in the mood to talk he left the information very short and gruff, instead opting to let his EGO, Dinara, just send that info to their EGOs. Then Atticus said sharply, "There you have it. Lena was taken by a giant insectoid and it's footprints appear lead to towards a compound that is about two klicks from here. Those sharkadiles have been after us since we investigated where we pinpointed Lestrange's landing to be and we have followed his footsteps until those lizards attacked. The two sets of prints began to start running parallel a klick back so I am certain they were headed to the same place. So with your teams here it changes things slightly. So here is the new lineup....."
Atticus's eyes still slightly glowing white, flashed bright again for a second before dulling back down some as he continued very sharply with, " Vo and I NEED some UNINTERUPTED PRIVATE time. So we WILL go AHEAD of both commando teams to do some recon of the compound parameter while Volo and his stealth team follow half a klick behind and take up a position just on the edge of the forest line, so the trees will help hide their position. Sandy you and your strike team will man the Garilu and circle around to the other side of the compound and hold position at a safe distant from it, but be ready to come in fast if needed."

Lady Christianna's enigmatic smile disappeared from her pretty chalk white face as she felt a large hand lightly grab her shoulder, taking on the expression of a small child who had been discovered with her hand in the forbidden cookie jar, but when she swiftly turned and saw with large pink eyes that it was Kaj, the smile returned as quickly as it disappeared.
Kaj calmly said, "I do hope you know what you are doing my little friend. However I do need some sort of reassurance from you that you are certain of what you are doing and are thinking correctly. Not just because the doctor needs it or because I need to know it as Captain of the Vigilant, but because you are my friend and as your friend I need to know that you are certain that you know what you are doing before I am comfortable with letting you go back to the Garilu. Even if he has to carry you back through that portal again him self, and he would not be very happy with me for not stopping you in the first place."
Lady continued her enigmatic smile, then stood on her tiptoes as she gently touched Kaj's purple cheek with one small alabaster hand as she replied simply, "S'Okay Kaj. Atticus needs me."
With that said, Lady dashed through the Black Matter portal to the roof of the Garilu, surprising Sandy Bell's and Volodja Uljanov's squads as she arrived unexpectedly and then asked, "Hela! Where's Atticus?"
The senior member of Sandy's strike team answered although still startled by her sudden appearance but gesturing towards the back of the Garilu, "Down below on the ground ma'am, with sub-commanders Bell and Uljanov and Mr. Kshaa, who he was fighting tooth and nail with," Then he swiftly added when he saw Lady's pink eyes grow big in concern, "But they seem to be over it now, so no worries!"
Lady nodded her small white haired head, not reassured at all, for she knew that once her husband lost his temper, he was extremely slow to get it back, and that he must have lost his temper to attack Vo, who was not only her mentor Belle Starr's Prince Charming but their longtime friend as well. With that thought in mind, she gently jumped off the Garilu's roof in the direction she was directed to, gently floating to the ground as she lessened her density.
Lady arrived just in time to hear Sandy reply to Commander Atticus' orders, "Sounds like a great plan sir, except for the part where you and Mr. Kshaa go off alone on recon. Meaning no disrespect, but considering that you were just trying to kill the man, I REALLY don't think you two should be left alone. Either you two should be assigned to different teams, or you should have a third party go with you to intervene if things again go... well, awry is too weak a word but I'll use it anyway."
Lady's enigmatic smile widened as she announced her presence by saying as she ran up and hugged her husband, "Me! ME! I'll go!"
Lady frowned as Atticus stiffened up slightly, if only for a moment, but he kept holding her lightly as she held him tightly, while the rest of them glanced at each other in awkward silence. Finally, Sandy broke what seemed to her to be an eternity of quiet with a small cough, before speaking.
"Thaaaat might not be a good idea either Lady," Began Sandy in a hesitant tone, "See, Atticus was trying to kill Vo because he caught you kissing Vo shortly after you were WIA..."
"WHAAAAT! NEVER!" Exclaimed Lady before her chalk white jaw dropped and her large pink eyes grew even larger as she turned to face Sandy with one arm still firmly around Atticus' midsection, then she grimaced and stuck out her pink tongue like the teenager had tasted something foul, before stating as a matter-of fact, "Vo's Belle's beau and... he's soooo old! Sides, love Atticus, forever and ever!"
Lady then looked up at Atticus, trying to discern his mood from behind his battle armor's helmet before taking his large hand with both of her small ones and placing it on her left breast above her heart, holding it there reminiscent of their first night together, saying firmly although with a pout on her thin lips, "Your Lady. Always YOUR Lady, forever and ever."

Lady arrived just in time to hear Sandy reply to my orders, "Sounds like a great plan sir, except for the part where you and Mr.
I turned my glowing glare towards Sandy, but kept Vo in my peripheral and was about to say something, most likely something very hateful and rage-filled when suddenly Lady announced her presence by saying as she ran up and hugged me, "Me! ME! I'll go!"
Lady frowned as I stiffened up slightly, if only for a moment, but kept holding her lightly as she held me tightly, while the rest of the group glanced at each other in awkward silence.
Lady then looked up at me, trying to discern my mood from behind my battle armor's helmet before taking my large hand with both of her small ones and placing it on her left breast above her heart, holding it there reminiscent of their first night together, saying firmly although with a pout on her thin lips, "Your Lady. Always YOUR Lady, forever and ever."
Watching Lady closely and still keeping an eye on Vo as well, I said gruffly but heartfelt, "And I will ALWAYS be YOURS. Fine there is plenty of proof to show that I took it all wrong. Doesn't change the pain I felt at what I saw; but what matters is that you are fine, still love only me, and that Vo did not actually take advantage of the situation like it appeared."
Then I lifted my left hand to my face and raised up my helm. Next I lowered and wrapped my left arm around Lady, keeping my right hand trapped between us still on her wonderful chest, as I leaned down and kissed her passionately, with even more passion than the kiss I had witnessed her give Vo. When I finally broke the kiss but still holding Lady tightly to me, I glanced at Vo to make sure that he had witnessed all the love and passion that Lady and I shared just now.
Then I said more calmly, "I am glad to hear how you feel about me, but you know I am older than Vo. My Grid physiology just makes me age much slower than..."
I then noticed Sandy look at me, from behind Lady, with that "Shut up you idiot!" look that all women seem to be experts at, so I continued with, "..........Doesn't matter. What matters is that you and Vo are still alive, you still love and want the asshole that you married, and that we still need to find Lena and Lestrange. However given the injuries you suffered, you should be back on the Vigilant."
When Lady kept her hold on me and shook her head slightly at my suggestion that she return to the Vigilant, I shrugged and said sternly, "Fine! Lady is back on the mission! Sandy I get your concern over Vo's life, and can not deny them.........but the teams stay as I ordered! The only difference is that Lady will once again be on the main recon team with me and Vo!"
After saying that, Lady I walked over to where I had discarded my shotgun and gauntlets and Lady her shogun, with Lady's arm still around my waist as if to reassure me that I was worried over nothing. I reluctantly pulled away, but placed one of my unarmored hands on her cheek and gently rubbed it as I leaned in and kissed her again just as passionately but now more tenderly than the last; and this time melting completely into the kiss and not caring about anybody else around at the moment.
Next I knelt down. Once on a knee, I handed "Baby" up to her. Then I put my armored gauntlets back on and resecured them. After that I grabbed my shotgun, stood and gave her another quick loving kiss, then re-secured my helm, while Lady returned her hand to around my waist. Once that was done, I wrapped my arm around Lady's as well and turned back to the others saying sternly but now in my normal gruff tone with my eyes now back to glowing an electric blue, "Anything else?"

Lady Christianna watched as Sandy Bell shook her blond tresses in answer to her husband's question as to whether there were any other mission issues, signifying that she was ready to comply with his orders. To further underline that fact, Sandy ordered her squad to occupy the Garilu. Sandy herself entered the Garilu through the ramp door to take the pilot's seat; but not before, after making sure no one but her lover, Volodja Uljanov, was watching, she threw him a kiss.
Lady, of course, did notice, and thought Sandy was being silly. Sandy was always worried about appearances, particularly during a mission; more afraid to show weakness before the troops under her command than taking care of what really mattered, those she loved, and Lady knew Sandy loved Volodja. Lady could tell by the way Sandy looked at him with adoring blue eyes, and whenever they were close to each other, Sandy would surreptitiously intertwine her fingers with his, even during mission briefings. Lady was glad she never wanted or sought positions of command, although there was that time when she was the Mistress of Sorrow as leader of the Inquisition, but she didn't count that, for she felt she wasn't in her right mind then due to her postpartum depression and her mother's machinations. Still, Lady liked to think that even if she was in charge of the world, she would always openly show her loving feelings for her husband.
Lady beamed, looking up at here husband, Atticus Batman, before moving from a one armed embrace to a full frontal hug, then standing on her tiptoes kissing him hard, before verbally confirming facts she thought he should already know, "Love you. Only you. And kids. Not the same." Then her enigmatic smile reappeared as Lady poked one small chalk white forefinger into his broad chest and said cheerfully, "Not old. Immortal."
Lady then reluctantly let go of Atticus, dusting off her Crimefighter shotgun which she called "Baby," making sure that it was still working properly after it's rest in the dirt, then hesitantly turned her large pink eyes to include both Atticus and Vo Ksahaa, the man her husband almost killed because of a kiss, one that she still didn't remember giving but took at face value must have happened, saying sincerely with a sad frown, "Sorry guys! Don't remember kiss. Nothing to remember," Then adding just in case it needed reaffirmation, "Like Vo. LOVE Atticus. BIIIIIG difference!"
Lady felt the matter over, so when her husband and Vo were ready to go, she was ready to follow; but still, she felt a thrill go up her spine as the teenager thought, "WOW! They were fighting over ME! Plain old ME! Frumpy old married with twins boring ME! Vo's girlfriend is one of the most beautiful women in the world, yet they were fighting over ME! WOW!"
Lady's enigmatic smile returned to her pretty chalk white face, although if anyone looked, they would notice that it was a little bit wider than usual and that her large pink eyes held a happy sparkle, for even the most invisible of women really want to be noticed and appreciated.

As the bats left the belfry so to speak and from where Lena Marr was hiding with her Lover Marcel LeStrange from Doctor Euthanasius and his minions, Lena whispered to Marcel, "I'm ready to come out of the closet, Pooh Bear! No, I'm not gay, although lesbian sex can be REEEALLLLY fun, but I AM bored!"
Lena looked around for something in the utility closet she could use as a weapon, and finding a mop, held it like a Bo staff, saying, "I'm armed and ready!"
Dressed only in an unbuttoned lab coat, Lena burst out of the closet with a loud, "HIYAAA!", Tripping first Eugene and then Doris with two quick swipes of the mop, Then she pointed the handle end in Doctor Euthanasius' pallid face saying, "Surrender paleface! I have a mop and I'm not afraid to use it!"

Post by Volodja Uljanov on Aug 19, 2016 16:30:26 GMT
After some serious hackin' and wackin' and smackin' Volodja Uljanov got out from the bog, leaving unconscious Sharkadile to it's own. Hopefully that giant reptile learned it's lesson and avoids confronting someone who does not only has a full set of EGO powers, but who is also quite keen when it's about getting out from sticky, muddy or Sharkadilly situations, in the future...
Reaching to something that at least lightly resembled solid ground (it was a mangrove swamp after all with not much solid ground at all) Volodja sighed from relief and swept some mud off his face. Then he begun to look for his sapper shovel...and another Sharkadile who held it between it's jaws temporarily. He saw his shovel indeed, but not between Sharkadile jaws any more but in a fist of one of his team members.
"We saw your selfish reasons, Commander," said man who held his shovel. "You were ready to risk your own life for the rest of the team so we followed you without orders. Before you are going to say anything about ignoring your orders, let us explain why we did it. We saw that under that fancy schmancy look and Sunday School talk of yours lays true Commander who is willing to share the faith of his men and even more - to risk his own life to keep his men safe. That makes you a true Commander. And that is why we decided to disobey your previous orders and give you all support we can. If you were willing to risk your life for us, then we couldn't act otherwise. So while you were busy in that bog, we managed to recover your shovel and we were ready to give you a hand with that Sharkadile if needed. But it seems that you were able to take care of the situation by yourself. By the way - Commander Bell tries to get a visual contact with you."
"Gentlemen! I have a single request. Don't look now!" asked Volodja politely with a smile on his muddy face when he spotted Sandy on Garilu. His men did what he asked, turned their faces away and let Volodja catch Sandy's air kiss without disturbing them. Volodja's muddy face was enlightened by a smile when air kiss hit the mark. After a moment of enjoying it, Volodja turned to his group and said:
"Actually...I do have another request....Will you be so kind to not tell Sandy about my accident. She has enough worries, like taking care of her group to keep them alive and ready for battle, so I can't afford to distract her. At least not too much."
"If you put it that way Commander, then...Our lips are sealed. Especially when our Commander has such an excellent taste. If you think that we didn't noticed the flame between you two, then...we couldn't call ourselves a true reconnaissance team, could we?"

Vo nodded with a smile and showed a thumb up sign when he saw Atticus glancing at him after he had his passionate kiss with Lady. He was glad the family didn't break up of built up any prolonged tensions because of a minor incident. After he showed it to Atticus, he made several steps towards the forest they would be heading as a recon team. He waited there for Atticus and Lady to join him as he watched and listened to his surroundings. Following traces and detecting dangers was a common task for him as the forest and its inhabitant were vivid to him like in an open book. As they moved deeper into the forest towards the compound, he kept watching and listening. His enhanced vision allowed him to see through the foliage and detect any unusual movement His enhanced hearing… well, that was the moment Vo started to feel something was wrong. He suddenly noticed he didn't have enhanced hearing anymore and even what of it was left was gradually decreasing. In addition, a strange feeling of nausea started to build up, a feeling he was rarely susceptible to.
"Shirra, what's going on?" He asked his EGO unit.
"I get the symptoms of what I could call a sensory overload, but I can't detect what's causing an over-stimulation. Your equilibrial organs seems to be stimulated in a strange way too, those feelings may be connected somehow."
Vo stopped in place and looked around, trying to determine what could be the source of the unusual feelings he was experiencing, but still didn't find anything suitable.
"Wait, something is not right," he sent to the team through his EGO as he wasn't sure they could hear him, "Something is affecting my hearing and vestibular organs. Still can't determine what's causing it and if it's dangerous."

"Tut, tut, tut," said Doctor Euthanasius. "I don't remember that I required a cleaning lady. Actually I can't even remember that we are properly introduced, and I am a bit busy to check my memories about that fact, so I have to call you Miss Doe at moment. Not Jane Doe, though. Deciding from your looks and odours, I think that Libby Doe is more appropriate name. You can put your mop down or sweep it around a bit if you want. I have a pile of guano I'd like to get rid of." "What is guano, Pooh Bear?" asked Lena from Marcel. "I know guacamole, but never heard of guano." "Bat shit. Loads of it, but that accumulated shitload is actually a highly effective fertilizer due to its exceptionally high content of nitrogen, phosphate and potassium. So that load of shit could be worth a lot if you are a farmer or gardener. But we did not came here to shovel his shit." "Nope!" confirmed Lena. "We came to demand a surrender of this paleface before shit hits the fan. So what's it going to be, Doctor Eunuch?" "Euthanasius, young lady. Eu. Tha. Na. Si. Us," corrected Todt. "Since you wept two of my conversation partners temporarily off the picture, I have to share this experiment with you. Come and and see yourselves! Watch the spectacle with me. I have some popcorn and beer if you want." He dragged Lena and Marcel in front of a huge screen and explained: "We released two cages of bats to meet trespassers with a silent song. Don't worry. This little experiment of mine won't kill them...I assume...But definitely slows them down and makes weaker. Let us witness the survival of the fittest." "He did not said that he assures," muttered Marcel. "I do like that "survival of fittest" talk, but he is still an arrogant asshole." "You see." said Euthanasius. "My little flying friends used ultrasound to move around, locate the prey and so on. Echo location, you know. And one day I thought what if they can use that feature to affect much bigger prey without rising suspicions. Extremely useful if you plan an attack and are interested in neutralizing resistance. So Eugen, who lies here unconscious, and I begun our work of developing new species of bats, capable to emit ultrasound waves which affect higher species like humans and Votans respectively. After meticulous work we managed to create these fellows and teach them to follow simple orders, like finding a pointed target. Targets can't hear their singing, but they will be caught by it. And my little sirens are fast and manoeuvrable enough so they are hard to hit and difficult to spot. Especially when people are affected by their song. Today we test them in open world first time. Let's see how our uninvited guests withstand vibration." While Euthanasius was talking, dozens of leathery wings carried dozens of bats towards Protectors...

Lady felt the matter over, so when her husband and Vo were ready to go, she was ready to follow. In the meantime Vo made several steps towards the forest they would be heading as a recon team. He waited there for Lady and me to join him as he watched and listened to his surroundings. So after I made sure that Volo knew what the plan was through his EGO as his team weren't near the Garilu when I gave the orders, Lady and I followed behind Vo who had chosen to take point. Following traces and detecting dangers was a common task for Vo as the forest and its inhabitant were vivid to him like in an open book. As we moved deeper into the forest towards the compound, he kept watching and listening.
"Wait, something is not right," he sent to the team through his EGO as he wasn't sure they could hear him, "Something is affecting my hearing and vestibular organs. Still can't determine what's causing it and if it's dangerous."
Lady and I were still a couple steps behind Vo as he stayed ahead of us, most likely so I had a little more time to get my rampant emototions back in check now that Lady was once again by my side to calm me. However we caught up with him shortly after receiving his EGO message. That is when I finally realized I sensed something odd as well. However given my unique physiology and abilities, what I noticed didn't affect my regular senses. No what I did notice was because of my unique senses, more specifically my ability to detect differences in the natural and artificial electrical currencies that exist, for I started to notice something from above seemed to be bombarding the natural electrical currents in the air around us, with what I wasn't sure but even though I wasn't sure how it would affect my hybrid physiology, I was certain that thanks to the design of my battle armor that I would be immune to whatever was causing the symptoms Vo was enduring, for as long as my armor was on and intact. However as Lady's unique talents and physiology were still fairly new to her, I wasn't sure how she would be affected by whatever it was that was causing the change in the electrical currents in the air around us and the adverse affects that Vo was feeling.
So I said over EGO to Vo and Lady, "Whatever it is also appears to be affecting the electrical currents in the air around us. It's like something above the forest is bombarding us with some sort of invisible ray or something."
Then I sent a message over EGO to both Volo's stealth team and Sandy's strike team, "Sandy, Volodja! If you can hear this message please listen closely! Something seems to be causing some kind of disturbance in the electrical forces in the air around us and from what I can tell whatever is causing it must be above us somewhere but we can't see past the forest canopy above. It also seems to be affecting Vo's hearing and vestibular organs but I am not sure yet how or IF it is affecting Lady, but my battle armor's design is protecting me from whatever is causing those affects in Vo. Can either of your teams or the Garilu's sensors detect what it may be?"
As I sent the message to Sandy's and Volo's teams, I turned to check on Lady, while I was also seeing what I could do to help Vo (although I must admit I did the latter somewhat reluctantly for I was still silently hurting because of what I saw and still solely blamed Vo for it all).

Post by Sandy Bell on Aug 20, 2016 13:26:44 GMT
"Sub-commander Bell will you please not hit the sensitive radar equipment," Said the gristled veteran in the pilot's seat of the Garilu who was also Sandy Bell's second-in-command. "Damn thing isn't working," Replied Sandy in frustration from the co-pilot's seat, her blue eyes narrowing with concern, hitting it one more time with her tanned fist hoping that striking it one more time might just clear the screen of the static there, which of course, it didn't. "None of the more sensitive electronic equipment is working. Radio isn't working either," Informed the sergeant, "I'm navigating to where Commander Batman directed us by line of sight and the sun right now." "Did we suffer an EMP pulse and I just didn't see it?" Asked Sandy with a frown on her pretty tan face. "Pretty sure the answer is no," Answered her squad sergeant, "I drove armored vehicles all throughout the Pale Wars, and was hit by more than one EMP pulse then. We would be dead in the water if we had been hit by one of those. No, this is something else - and not something I've ever experienced before." Suddenly Sandy's EGO came alive with an incoming message from Atticus Batman, but it was completely garbled so she had no way to understand it, telepathically telling her EGO psyche to keep trying to make connection with the other teams, while telling the sergeant out loud as she grabbed her Piper assault rifle and stood up, "I'm going to check things up top. Maybe I'll be able to see things clearer from a higher vantage point. Sargent Rocke, keep trying to get us to where the Commander wanted us. You're in command down here until I get back." Sandy moved to where the hatch to the roof of the Garilu was located, opening it and then climbing carefully to the top. She lay there for a second, enjoying the sun that had finally broken through the ever present rain clouds before looking around in all directions. North, east, south - nothing but lush green jungle and grey storm clouds, but then she looked to the west, where the enemy complex was located, and she saw a small dark cloud approaching. Looking through the Piper's scope, she scanned in the direction of the dark cloud, seeing something that made her rub her eyes and then look again. The dark cloud was made up of hundreds of man-sized bat like creatures flying their way, although it looked like some were breaking away to fly in other directions. Frowning, Sandy slipped through the hatch to the Garilu's interior, thinking that somehow she had to warn the others of the impending danger. It was possible that at least Atticus' team already knew, and that was what his EGO message was about, but she didn't know if that was true for sure. Her first inclination was to blur and warn them herself, but that was not what a good officer would do. She had already left her men without her leadership once today, and though it wasn't for long, she was determined not to do that again. Sandy considered her options, not liking the only one she saw as feasible but left with no other choice. Sandy went back to what she had read about in officer training school: How the ancient Greeks fought their wars, relaying messages via human messengers who ran with the message from where it originated to where it needed to go. Sandy felt that in this instance, on an island this dangerous, she needed a runner who like herself had an implanted EGO if they were to get the message through. She overcharged her hand briefly to make sure the EGO powers were not affected by whatever was affecting communications, and smiled when she found out they were not. Only two members in her squad had EGO implants - Sargent Rocke and Private Perkins. Although Sandy could pilot the Garilu, Sargent Rocke had more experience, especially as to piloting with dead reckoning, so his presence on the Garilu enhanced the possibility of mission success. That left Perkins, very young and with a fairly new EGO, but who seemed to her to have the attributes and attitude to be a good soldier. Still, she was reluctant to send him to what was quite possibly his death, but could not deny the necessity or see a viable option. As Sandy quickly wrote with pen and paper a quick message apprising the reader of the situation, she gestured to Private Perkins, ordering, "Perkins, front and center, and bring your gear" Then when he quickly stood up and moved in front of her standing rigidly at attention, Showed him a map as she gave her orders that she was well aware might take his life, "You have an EGO and you know blur. Commander Batman and his Recon team should take this path to get to their destination, with Sub-commander Uljanov and his stealth strike team taking this one. First take this message as fast as you can to Commander Batman, then to Sub-commander Uljanov, then stay with Uljanov - unless Commander Batman or Uljanov tells you different. This is a dangerous mission, so avoid conflict if possible - that's what cloak is for - but don't hesitate to use deadly force if you need to in order to fulfill the mission or to preserve your life. However, I don't want to risk your life further just trying to get back to us. Be safe, but get the job done!" As the Garilu slowed down for Private Perkins to surreptitiously slip out the floor hatch, Sandy watched him leave with a grim look on her pretty tan face, knowing that she would rather risk her own life than his and warn Volodja, her lover, first, but that was not SOP, and a good officer followed the chain of command and did what was best for her squad and her mission, despite what her heart might want. She wished that Volodja was with her now so that she could just hug and kiss him and tell him how much she loved him and be damned if anyone saw or not. She wished that at least she could put these feelings into the message for him to read, but that was not the military way. "Just the facts m'am, just the facts," Thought Sandy to herself, for she always strived to be a good soldier and a good officer, even when she didn't like it and longed to just be held by the man she loved; furthermore, Sandy had a sinking feeling that things were going south much too fast, even for the Protectors, and the need for her to be a good officer was never greater than now. ***** Less than an hour later and clutching a now empty Piper Assault rifle, Sandy Bell found herself in a muddy gully bleeding so profusely that her EGO 's healing powers couldn't keep up and laying next to her squad's Sargent - or more correctly, half her Sargent, as his body from the stomach down was gone. The man-bats had swarmed and overrun the Garilu, their adamanium tipped claws ripping through the Garilu's walls as if they were tissue paper, then dismembering her men one by one. They fought valiantly and as professionals, but there was just too many of the bat like creatures for them to even have a chance to win. The energy weapons were useless, as whatever pulse the creatures were emanating disabled them as well as the Garilu's defenses. Only lead spitting weapons had any effect on the man-sized monsters, although the nano-based ammunition seemed to still be effective. It was only the rad-nano steel jacketed bullets of her Piper and her EGO's blur power that allowed her to escape the Garilu's decimation after her men were massacred. She and Sargent Rocke were in the cockpit fighting back to back when the bat-creatures burst in from all directions. After she could see that all the rest of her squad were dead and she had taken several claw strikes, Sandy cleared the monsters from in front of the cockpit's already broken window with a spray of bullets, grabbing the sergeant's arm and blurred away from the scene of carnage. It was only when she got them under the concealment of the gully near the smoking wreckage of the Garilu that she noticed that half of the Sargent was gone. "I'm sorry Sargent," Said Sandy sadly but in a low tone, tears welling in her blue eyes, "I'm sorry I let you and the squad down..." Much to her surprise, Sargent Rocke turned his grey head towards her, his hazel eyes reflecting the great pain he was in, as he muttered, "Not your fault Cap'n... some fights just aren't winnable." Her blue eyes grew wide as her hands immediately went to the medic pouch at her belt, but he stopped her with one bloodied hand, saying, "This too is one of those... unwinnable fights. I'm a goner. But... wanted to tell you... I was at Mount Tam that day... during the Pale Wars... when you led the charge with our flag waving... reminded me of that famous painting of the woman leading the charge during the French Revolution... Liberty leading the People by that artist Delacroix, I think... of course back then I was young... and liked the painting more because she was showing tits," Sargent Rocke chuckled until he coughed up blood, then continued in a low voice after wincing in pain, "Boy, you always were a looker, and I wouldn't have minded then if you had led the charge topless, but... you were really inspiring. I was in my teens, scared and hiding in a bomb hole when you charged by yelling EMC forever, and I thought, hell yeah! I jumped out of my hole firing my gun like crazy, and at that moment at that time, I would have followed you to the gates of hell and beyond." The sentence was punctuated by another outburst of bloody coughs before he continued speaking, lifting his head, "This wasn't your fault! Commander Batman, Commander Taffer - it wouldn't matter who was in command, some battles you just can't win. Seeing you today, I was brought back to that day on Mount Tam... and... I'd still follow you to hell Cap'n!" With that said, Rocke's head fell back onto the muddy ground although his hazel eyes remained open staring, but the glow of life in them was gone. Sandy closed them with a dirty thumb and forefinger as she replied, her own blue eyes fluttering closed after she did, mumbling "Guess I'll be following you this time, Sargent." "Don't give in on me," Her EGO's psyche yelled at her in a commanding tone, having been based on her memories of her old squad Sergeant during the Pale Wars, "Hang in there, Captain!" "I'm just resting my eyes," Replied Sandy thought the telepathic link they shared, "I wish... doesn't matter! Can't change things now... So many regrets... If worse comes to worse... tell Volodja... my last thoughts were of him... that I love him... and I'm sorry I didn't really kiss him and tell him so the last time I saw him..." "I'll tell him," Replied her EGO psyche, "But you can tell him yourself later." However, Sandy did not hear her EGO psyche's reply, for she had already slipped into darkness.
