Marcel glanced at Volodja and wondered why he doesn't do anything. Maybe he lost his mind as well? But closer look to his intent eyes revealed that his mask of indifference hid a fast thinking process, meticulous mind work and high emotional level. Although he wasn't saying anything out loud, Marcel felt that Volodja is having a conversation and ordered Moira to sharpen her ears.
"No deal, Marcel. It's private talk and I won't listen. If you want to know what's going on then just ask him."
"I will. But I remember your behaviour."
"Go ahead, Marcie-baby."
"Grrrr!"
"Volodja. I want to know..."
"All I have to say is - don't touch the gum! You too, Atticus!"

We moved further into Presidio Bunker as the hallway sloped downwards. When the team caught up to Sandy Bell she was looking down at a fiery pit of lava about forty feet down and forty feet across that covered the whole hallway width. The walls and ceiling appeared covered with a greasy substance, denying access across the pit that way. The smell of molten rock permeated the area, and the heat emanating from the pit was probably almost unbearable to the others. However what got to me was the smell, damn extremely enhanced sense of smell! I watched as Lena purposely tripped, in hopes of pushing Volodja into the pit for some reason. However he moved closer to Sandy at the last second, and Lena was the one who took a plunge.
As Lena went over the edge her last words were, "AWWW, MAAAAAAAN!" Then there was an explosive cloud of heat and flame that emanated from the pit, accompanied with the rancid smell of burnt flesh. That added smell was just too much for me, and I made sure my helmet was completely sealed and activated it's enclosed rebreather, glad that I had one installed into all of my enclosed hemlets for such a case.
Sandy was very passive about Lena falling which upset Marcel, but after Volo's little talk with him, Marcel grew silent and just surveyed everything, like I had been doing. That is when Sandy really started acting like...well like Lena. She was being very passive-aggressive to Volodja and playing some kind of sex game or something. That of course caused Volo to be pitiful for a second until he got a hold of himself, and seemed to have come up with some kind of solution to Sandy's odd outbursts. Either that or he was just going to jump into the lava with her. One can never tell in situations like this.
So I just kept surveying the lava room looking for a way across, but stayed ready to try to stop them if it comes to that. While doing so, I sent an EGO message to Marcel. "Hopefully Volodja and Sandy can get it together because we need to focus and find a way across. I am certain that Lady would NEVER make a fatal trap to stop us, so either Volodja is right and somebody altered it or it is a damn good holographic simulation, which is quite possible because Broderick Smythe has plenty of experience messing with holo-rooms. For now let's hope that I am right and Lena is actually just locked away somewhere. However if that is the case, then I am guessing her guard would be extremely stupid if he got near her cage at the moment. Afterall I definitely noticed the look of homicidal rage in her eyes, a LOT more so than usual. Dak, what is wrong with these women, that we love, today?!"
A few seconds after sending my EGO message to Marcel, Volodja said, "All I have to say is - don't touch the gum! You too, Atticus!" I mentally thought to myself, "Well that solves that one. If the gum is laced with something, it explains it, as us guys are the only ones who haven't been chewing it."

Sandy Bell crumpled like a sack of potatoes as Sarge, her EGO psyche, briefly cut the flow of blood to her brain, rendering her unconscious but unharmed, as he replied to Sophie and included the other team members' EGOs, "Hmmm... that worked, but maybe an over-reaction on my part, but she would just not spit that gum out. I thought it was tough trying to keep Sandy out of trouble when I was alive, but this being her EGO is much harder. Her vitals are good now, so I can do some analysis." After a few moments, Sarge continued, "Hmmm... I'm no scientist by trade, but luckily the EGO unit is programmed to be, and I think I see the problem. The gum is not toxic per se, so it didn't register as poisonous on my sensors. There are some natural chemicals produced by a Votan plant that relaxes the natural inhibitions of sentient people, something like marijuana in my day, but multiply it's effects tenfold. Since Sandy has reckless tendencies in battle and has strong sexual feelings towards Volodja, especially since she got her body back and they haven't had much chance to act on them, she acted on them in the extreme as soon as her natural self restraint was diminished to next to nothing. Unfortunately, her uncertainty as to her relationship with Volodja was also unrestrained and made her suicidal at the last. The Votan drugs hit Sandy harder than it would have hit the rest of you, for her body was in stasis since before the terra-forming during the pale Wars, so the drug's effect was a hundredfold as to her since she had no natural immunity built up against it. The rest of you would have been exposed the drug before, probably in spore form, since these Votan plants are commonplace now and have existed on Earth for decades so you would have some natural immunity built up over time, but I bet it would affect even Atticus to a small extent in this concentrated dosage. With your Lady, I'm betting the drug in the gum gives enough of a mental nudge to do things she might suppress doing otherwise, although the ideas for them would still be in her mind. It would also make the emotions caused by her post partum depression more acute as well. By the way, Sandy's un-chewed gum stash in in the top pockets of her shirt." As Volodja retrieved the gum from Sandy's pocket and mouth and she slept peacefully due to the Sarge's inducements, Sarge sent a private message to Sophie, "I don't think I said that much during the entirety of the Pale Wars. Thanks for all your help here, for this job is all so new to me, but I think I'm getting the hang of it. By the way, YOU can call me Mike. In fact, you can call me anything anytime anywhere you want." Sarge mentally smiled as he efficiently and effectively cleaned the drugs from Sandy's system as she gently began to snore.

Lena Marr looked up from where she fell but only to see what appeared to be molten lava above her head. She felt the unbearable heat and smelled burning flesh, wondering what that was all about, when the room she was in was suddenly filling with green gas. As she fell to the ground, holding her breath for as long as she could but getting woozy as she was eventually succumbing to its effects, she saw with her peripheral vision Broderick Smythe enter the room from a secret door. Brody was still wearing the ridiculous medieval wizard outfit, complete with fake white beard, but what alarmed her was the Olmec control rod he carried in his skinny right white hand.
"I know you wanted to stick something in me Brody, but I didn't think it was that thing," Muttered Lena as her long lashed sky blue eyes began to flutter shut, adding, "I am so going to hurt you when I wake up if - "
Lena's threat remained unfinished as Brody inserted the rod into her neck, effectively making her his physical slave, then he blew a bubble from the bubble gum in his mouth, exclaiming with a lopsided grin, "I promised them Amazons' ire, but I bet they didn't know the noun was plural! Bwa HA ha!"

"That proves my point," concluded Volodja who was kneeling by sleeping Sandy and kissed gently her forehead, saying: "I'll make it up to you, my girl. And I make someone to pay for that gum."
"Count me in," said Marcel and grinned devilishly. "Not the first part. What she just said to you, leaves to the rest of the manhood no chance to get into her panties. But you can rely on me on the second part. For what they did to Lena. For what they made ME to live through. Skinning them alive for that is too light punishment for doing that. I have something in my mind already."
"Not for Lady and Broderick," said Volodja. "They are victims as well. Lady is under those drugs and Broderick. Well...have you seen a puppy? He so faithful to his mistress, so I believe that there wasn't even need for the Omec control rod in his case. But nevertheless he is a victim. As for the members of Inquisition, then I don't see them as victims but torturers, so..."
"So that means that I am going to have some fun with them," said Marcel. "Nothing painful, I promise, but shameful. And I am going to enjoy every moment of it."
"Your are welcome, Mike," said Sophie somewhere in Volodja's mind. "Good job with Sandy. She should be all right now. And so is Volodja, and not because we proved to be right, but because Sandy is all right...One more thing, Mike. When I say that you are welcome, then it means that you can drop by any time when you want."
Volodja didn't leave Sandy's side while other were looking for an opportunity to pass the lava trap. He guarded her nap and used a chance to stroke her blond hair.

"Up to the elbow in blood?" Lu said between the bursts she delivered into the hallway. As Chase started to shoot his Thunder, he used the moment to reload her Havoc AR. "Nice shooting Chase", she complimented, seeing his performance with his light machine gun. She was never good with light machine guns. She could handle heavy explosive-shooting weapons like detonators or rocket launchers, but she felt that having a weapon that is heavy and has a high recoil and high rate of fire was too much for her. When dealing with machine guns, she preferred them stationed on a turret. "By the way, have you found your girlfriend among those Indogenes? I think I'm going to free them from those control rods anyway, before someone sent them another command. Keep us safe and clean the path to the exit for us if you can." With that said, she let her Decoy run back to the group of Indogenes, and took the time to shoot another couple of bursts at Inquisitors. Then she planted an ammo spike for Chase and switched places with her Decoy which managed to reach the group by that time. She didn't know how the enslaved Indogenes would react to her actions to free them, so she didn't say any warnings to them before she jumped to one of the Indogenes, covered her mouth and yanked the rod out of her neck. "Okay miss, don't know your name, let's get acquainted later, now you help me free others so we do it as fast as possible before anyone's got the idea on what's going on", she whispered to her. Then she released her grip and jumped to another Indogene, hoping the now free one will do the same. She still had the flash grenade ready in case anyone of them had any objections on getting their freedom back.

Post by Belle Starr on Sept 9, 2015 23:40:21 GMT
Belle Starr stood to the right of Erika Widowmaker while Lena Marr stood to Erika's left. Erika stood in golden armor stoically unmoving, with her red clay hands on the hilt of a huge two handed sword whose point rested on the floor. Lena was wearing leather armor and had a Bowie knife in each hand, restlessly flipping them in her hands from hilt to blade, and back again, like the rogues Belle had seen in some of Lady and Brody's video games. Belle was still in her expandable Red White and Blue Liberty Trooper armor, armed only with her Thorn Liro charge blade. As all three stood guard facing outward in front of the huge metal door to Lady Christianna's throne room, Belle did ballerina stretch exercises as she thought about their dilemma.
"Okay, this stupid Olmec control rod makes me have to follow Brody's orders, so I guess I should be glad all he had me do was kiss him once, but what else did he order me to do, and how can I get around those orders?" Thought Belle to herself as she did a practice pirouette, "He said to fight anyone who comes into this hallway but him or Lady, but fight to subdue not to kill or maim, and that's a plus! He also told me not to Volge out, although I'm not sure if that is because he and Lady are afraid I'll lose control and maybe exceed those orders, or that they'll lose control of me if I do! So how do I get message to Atticus or the others with this control rod in my neck? Erika said all Amber had been able to do was throw bottle messages in the communication network and hope for the best, but Alfred, as he often reminds me, is a superior EGO and he has loads more experience being an EGO than Amber! So Alfred, you ready to prove your superiority once again?"
Belle smiled confidently as Alfred, her EGO psyche, answered through the telepathic link they shared, "Of course my dear! I won't be able to keep a channel open long, for this Olmec technology is very adaptive and extremely... alien, but with Atticus' unique Grid energy signature and him being so close, I have a 99.8% probability of contacting him and allowing your message through. Communication channel with Mr. Batman open... now!"
"Atticus, got to keep it brief! Erika, Lena and I are armed with melee weapons only guarding the door to Lady's throne room and we are ordered to subdue not kill y'all, so it's a delaying tactic I bet, so y'all do whatever y'all need to get us out of the way ASAP, because if y'all don't, a lot of innocents are going to be hurt by Lady's terra-forming plan, which is started by a big red button on her - "
"Sorry Belle, the Olmec technology has countered my efforts I fear, "Alfred replied with disappointment in his voice, "I can probably find another way out, but that will take more time than we have."
"That's okay Alfred! You did your best, and let's both pray that was good enough to give them an advantage!" Thought Belle back to him in a reassuring manner, but then her thoughts were interrupted by Lena's muttering.
"If Brody is going to make me wear leather," Grumbled Lena to no one in particular, "He could have least given me a whip. Then I could use it on him when I get out of this!"

As we surveyed the lava, I decided to test my hologram hypothesis. So I pulled all the gum out of my pocket and tossed them towards the lava aiming for the side walls. As I did so I noticed some landed on a hidden ledge against the wall. I then walked over and cautiously felt with a foot and found a sturdy ledge. While I was doing so, I heard Volo and Marcel's conversation, as Sandy's EGO knocked her out.
I glanced back at them and said, "Marcel nothing mean to our friends, if possible, and definitely nothing lasting, scarring or fatal. However you can skin as many actual Inquisitors as you want. You will NOT get any objections from me there."
Just then Dinara, my EGO psyche, said Belle's EGO Psyche, Alfred, had managed to open a channel with me. So I had her accept it and listened to what Belle managed to get to me.
"Atticus, got to keep it brief! Erika, Lena and I are armed with melee weapons only guarding the door to Lady's throne room and we are ordered to subdue not kill y'all, so it's a delaying tactic I bet, so y'all do whatever y'all need to get us out of the way ASAP, because if y'all don't, a lot of innocents are going to be hurt by Lady's terra-forming plan, which is started by a big red button on her - "
I listened to the message, and had Dinara record it, and share it with Volodja and even Marcel Lestrange. After they heard it I said, "Alright when we get near there but before opening and entering the door to the throne room, I suggest we find an air duct for me to sneak through so I can get in there, hopefully unnoticed from behind, and try to get through to Lady while you two keep the girls busy. I am afraid it may hurt them temporarily, but we wont have time to tire them. So when you can, just pull out their devices and hope it works without doing any lasting damage. Now looking at where all my gum landed we have a way across. Stick close to the wall, as it is not a very wide ledge. Volodja, if Sandy's EGO doesn't feel it is safe to awaken her yet, then we have two choices. 1: We leave her here. However I would prefer not, as that would leave her vulnerable to them, and we can not afford to have more of our team become our enemy. Or 2: We take her with us. That is probably the most logical choice, as we can protect her unconscious body that way.
I will leave that up to you. However if you agree with choice two, then as the strongest, and perhaps most durable and flexible on my feet, I suggest I be the one to carry her across. If you prefer to carry her after we get across then I will hand her to you at that time, but it would probably be better for me to keep carrying her, if you trust me enough to. As I have had a lot of experience, with carrying people while having to walk on small ledges or fight off enemies. Life as a bounty hunter and assassin wasn't always just about killing, but sometimes rescuing or kidnapping as well, afterall."

"Don't you worry about us, Atticus. Wouldn't be the first time to carry someone under fire," said Volodja. "Never underestimate the human power. I might not to be the strongest. Or mightiest. But there are couple of things I am able to do and one of them is performing fine under pressure - mental and physical. You better keep your hands for fighting, big guy and let me do the carrying. You know already my opinions about taking lives, so you do the shooting and I will do the rescuing."
Saying that, Volodja took Sandy's sleeping body to his arms, adjusted his feet and his beautiful burden to gain the optimal balance so they wouldn't fall down into the lava pit and on Atticus lead they crossed the lava pit.
It wasn't an easy task, but when Volodja took responsibility for something or someone the he was sure that he will carry it to the end. That's why he moves slowly but steadily, always looking where he can put his foot down safely and avoid slipping or losing balance. And if anyone hoped that he will drop his precious burden to the lava pit, then Volodja didn't felt sorry at all for disappointing them when he made safely to the other side and stopped for the rest in safe distance from the pit.
Marcel Lestrange was the last on on the group. He actually liked to be the last one, because that meant placing rest of guys between him and possible dangers ahead. And Atticus Batman was the perfect bullet shield - wary, experienced and what's most important - huge, thus enabling better protection from incoming bullets. Marcel had to survive but not only because he wanted to stay alive. This time it was more than that. This time he has to avenge for the Lena Marr.

Just as the team crossed to the far side of the lava pit, Sandy woke up as Volodja laid her down of the floor. She sat up and yawned, about to ask what she missed and then she remembered. Everything! All the things she said! All the things she did! As Sandy stood up, someone handed her SMG to her and she clutched it like a small girl clutches her doll after her mother catches her with her hand in the cookie jar, stuttering an apology, "I - I - I am SO sorry about all that Commander Batman, Mister Lestrange - it was SO unprofessional of me - I don't know what came over me," She then turned to Volodja with wide blue eyes and a mortified look, exclaiming, "You must be SO embarrassed by my behavior - you being the perfect gentleman and me being anything but a lady back there, I am SO fuc - I mean I am SO sorry Volodja, can you ever forgive me?" Before Volodja could answer, a hellbug Monarch came up over a ramp in the hallway in front of them, or at least it looked like a Monarch; for in fact it was hundreds of Olmec flying spheres in perfect formation to appear like a Monarch, until they disengaged to fire their laser beams at the team.

"Nothing to be sorry about, my girl," muttered Volodja right before pushing Sandy into cover and taking a position by her side. "You chose me from all the men to be that obscure object of desire and that's all that counts. I should be proud of that that you set your meter on me." Laser beams hit the walls. There was too many of them. Too many flying spheres to fight. It's like a fighting with the Lerna hydra - you chop off it's head and another one replaces it immediately. Taking them out one by one will take too long. And those beams were way too deadly for an illusion and deprived them from moving forward. "There is nothing we can do with a raw power against the swarm. Too many units to pick them out one at the time. They are way too well organised for that and able to fill the gaps right away," said Volodja. "When to think about it then....there must be something to keep the swarm organised, right? And it's not the hive mind, but it has to be an AI. All we have to do is temper with that. Sophie dear, can you find their frequency and sneak into the system?""Sure Volodja. And what will happen next?""We need to get rid of those spheres at once so we need to collide them. The impact should be effective enough to turn them into the junk pile but we have to avoid direct hit to us or our surroundings. Use your imagination, dear girl. You have the skills and fantasy for that."Sophie had no trouble to find the right frequency, but before starting to hack and change the command lines, she had to figure how she can arrange the collision which must not be too powerful because people might get hurt by it. She needs to change the shape of the swarm to be able to create the relatively harmless impact. A giant swarm fist, slamming the floor? No! Too unoriginal, too dangerous and brings along too unpredictable results. What Lena said before? Divide et impera. Divide and rule. That should do it. First she must divide the swarm in two halves and then... There were no changes at the start while Sophie was busy with passing the firewall, avoiding traps and detection and reprogramming the AI, but after few minutes the swarm of Omec spheres started to split and form something completely different than a Hellbug Monarch or the huge fist. Two amorphous shapes became more organised and sharper by the time and finally everybody could see how the original swarm took a shape of two huge palms which started to slap together. Again and again. Every impact of two clapping hands neutralised some spheres and since all the energy was concentrated into the ovation in the middle of air and absorbed mostly by itself without any contact to the floor or walls, the team had to avoid only air waves and getting hit by pieces of former Omec spheres. Sophie could not resist temptation to enjoy results of her work. She popped out from Volodja's mind and made a graceful reverence in the middle of the floor, looking at two huge clapping hands which were crumbling more and more with every slap, and said: "No more applauds please. I was just doing my job. Got to go now." Then she re-entered to her home in Volodja's head satisfied with results of their well orchestrated team work (and secretly hoping that she made an impression on Sarge, Sandy's EGO psyche). "I do have an idea for removing our last obstacle out of our way, because I hate the thought of hitting our friends. Especially when it means hitting women. All we have to do is trust our and THEIR instincts," said Volodja. "What is used to enslave one's mind can be used to liberate it as well. Atticus - you will have the hardest task and most glorious moment of talking reason to your wife. Our task is make it to happen. Do we agree on that matter?"

Iri noticed the Irathient coming at her, witnessing the other Indogenes being freed from their control rods. She had waited for this, though her body tried to deny herself of it.
“There’s no need for this,” the words escaped from her mouth, the control rod’s last ditch efforts to stave off any help. “Everything is f-“
It was at that moment that the woman grabbed her, spun her around and pulled her into a bear hug, tight enough to make it difficult for her to breathe. She felt her fingers wrapping around the control rod and pull, the pain surging through her neck until it came free of her. She inhaled sharply and dropped to her knees. Iri finally caught her breath, feeling as if it had been a century since she last had it.
“Hallelujah,” was the word that escaped her lips at that moment.
Eren’s hand found her shoulder, her helping Iri back up to her feet.
“I guess we won’t be spooning tonight after all,” Eren told her.
Iri escorted Eren and a couple of others out of the way so that they’d be clear of the battle, before moving up to Chase.
“Hello, my love,” she told him as she unzipped his weapon’s cache.
She dug around until she found her Wolfhound, and preceded to kneel around him and participate in the barrage of gun fire, hoping to keep the enemy at bay. It felt right to be next to Chase once more, but this time, she was actually doing better at holding the enemy off than she did after the Challenger crashed. Chase pushed her back as he leaned back to avoid weapon’s fire. He looked at her for a moment, Iri registering something in his eyes that she couldn’t place, something sad and creepy.
“Lu, hurry it up,” Chase told the Irathient. “We need to destroy that terraspire before it can become active.”
“Destroy it?” Lu seem surprised by Chase’s comment. “You didn’t say anything about destroy it! The people of Red Deer need it.”
“Well, how else are we going to stop Lady from using it, wishing upon a star?” Chase snapped back.
Lu finished removing the control rods, heading back to the other side of the door across the way from them.
“Without that terraspire, it could cause a collapse of Red Deer’s economy. The research team could use it to produce new upgrades, medical equipment and more. They NEED it functioning!”
It took Iri a moment to process the information being shared between the Arkhunters, her realizing what she had to do.
“I can disable it,” Iri voiced out her statement.
This caught Chase by surprised, him looking at her as he continued to hold her back from the line of fire.
“It’s really simple,” she continued. “Pull the Ark Matrix out, and the terraspire cannot do the damage that Lady intends to do with it. It may not permanently stop her, but it may stall her plan out long enough for Belle and the others to put a stop to her.”
“I’ll do it,” Chase told Lu. “You get her and the others out of here.”
“That won’t work, Chase. First of all, in order to make sure the terraspire isn’t damaged, you need diagnostic implants, which I happen to have. Another thing I have that you don’t are hands small enough to get into the housing and remove the part without having to rip the machine apart to get it. I HAVE to go. Besides, I know where the terraspire chamber is.”
She could see the look in Chase’s eyes, concern mixed worry. Iri recalled back to just a short while ago, when he had convinced her to go with him to Freedom. He was worried that something bad might happened to her. She placed her hand on his shoulder.
“We can do this,” she assured him. “You and I, together.”
Chase turned away to peek carefully around the door to see how much opposition was there. She knew he was concerned, but she knew she had to help in stopping it. The whole situation was partly her fault, and she knew she needed atone for her actions. Chase looked back over at Lu.
“You okay with this?” he asked.
The Irath nodded. He turned back to Iri.
“Stay behind me, no matter what,” Chase told her. “We’ll use the cloak to get past them and get to the chamber.”
Chase pulled off his shield, digging into his bag to retrieve several others. He handed them off to Eren.
“That should be enough, one for the each of you,” he said. “Better to have them and not need them than not have them and do.”
“You’re going through them without a shield?” Lu asked. “Must be rather difficult moving with a pair of stones that big.”
Chase shrugged and smirked, putting an arm around Iri’s waist and another under her legs, sweeping her off her feet. She had to put an arm around his shoulder to keep the weight distributed between his arms. Iri quickly checked the magazine in the Wolfhound, preceding to reload it before tucking it tightly between his chest and hers.
“There’s some chafing once in a while,” Chase replied back. “Here we go. McCoy, do it!”
Engaging Cloak now, McCoy responded.
Iri wrapped her arms around Chase’s neck tight as they slipped into temporary invisibility. Iri could hear Lu firing off rounds as a means of distracting the enemy. Chase hung along the wall, keeping as close to the shadows as he could so that the bending of light wouldn’t catch any of the opposition’s attention. Iri could see the mouth of the hallway they needed to head down.
“Take this right,” she whispered into his ear.
He followed her instruction, finally getting clear of the fight and a ways down before the cloak wore off. Chase sat Iri down on her feet. In her time of knowing him, she could only recall one other time he had carried her, and it was the day Chase’s father gave his life to save hers. She had twisted her ankle while running, and couldn’t walk on it, and Chase had been the one who carried her to his roller. Though this time was through necessity, she found it slightly romantic.
“Let’s go,” he mouthed quietly to her so that there wasn’t a chance of any noises from them to catch attention.
She grasped her Wolfhound, motioning to move forward with her as she took the lead.
Iri hung back and waited for Chase to give her the signal to move forward into the terraspire chamber after checking it. He motioned for her to following along, and she stuck close to him as they approached the terraspire. She picked up one of the tools from a nearby case, beginning to work on getting the housing open as Chase kept his guard up with the Thunder ready to strike.
“Once I get the housing open, it should be easy for me to get my hand into the terraspire to remove the Ark Matrix,” she explained to him. “We’ll put it in your weapon’s bag and take it with us to Red Deer. There’s a chance it might stop Lady’s plan, though temporarily.”
“Hopefully, it’ll be long enough for Belle and the others long enough to come to their senses and do what they should have.”
Iri switched the diagnostic mode on her eye implants, allowing her to get a view inside the terraspire’s inner workings through the shell. She finally got the panel off to allow for her to reach into the device. She felt around, her eyes trying to guide her hand to the Ark Matrix component. Iri couldn’t help but think about doctors helping a pregnant woman deliver a newborn at that moment, though she never really had to help Doctor Peters in such a procedure.
“You know what we should do after this whole situation’s resolved?” Iri told him. “We should go back to Freedom. I know you don’t remember the place, but I think it’d be good for us. Give you time to cool off, reconnect with your past. I can reintroduce you to your friends. Maybe we can stay at the Delilah’s Sisters’ hotel, eat every meal at Coopers, get a drink at the Watering Hole and catch a couple of movies at the library. Wouldn’t that be nice?”
Chase didn’t respond to her. Iri peered over her shoulder, Chase still keeping his focus on the door and the Thunder aimed ahead of him.
“Wouldn’t it?”
He turned his head to look at her a moment before turning back.
“Let’s get this done,” he told her.
She could sense the hesitation in him. Iri was worried that he was heading out too far to come back from whatever horror he was turning into. She didn’t want him to be a monster, as there were already its fair share in the world. The world needed kind people like Chase, like Lu, like Belle Starr, Taffer, Vo and all those who fought to do what was right and was the last light of hope in a world always one hour away on the verge of insanity. She couldn’t bare the thought of losing him to that madness, of him becoming too far gone to be salvaged.
The thought of Freedom was a promising vacation. Everything she suggested, she really wanted to do and to do with him. Get away from the Bay, get away from the insanity and try to bring Chase back to someplace where she knew that they’d be safe and things could be somewhat normal enough to help him from going down the dark path he was walking on. She had finally gotten her arm in and bent upward to be able to reach the Ark Matrix located underneath the Arkcore and its battery. With two of her fingers, she managed to turn the component a quarter of the way left before it came off and slid completely into her hand.
“I’ve got it!” she said, exhilarated by completing the task.
She carefully pulled her arm back out, keeping ahold of the Ark Matrix in her palm. She finally removed her hand from the housing, having a look at the piece, with what appeared to be a long rectangular neck, with small wings coming off the side and a middle section with a circular opening. Iri moved over to Chase, unzipping the weapon’s bag and placing it inside amongst the cache. Iri took a moment to close and secure the panel on the housing once more, so that no sign of tampering was noticeable. She had never felt so much accomplishment in throwing a wrench into the clockwork of Lady Christianna’s plan.
Castithans always underestimate Indogenes, Iri couldn’t resist herself from thinking with a small smirk forming.
“Mission accomplished,” she told him, catching his attention. “When they go to switch it on, it’ll attempt to boot up and then switch itself off, no matter how many times they try it.”
She came around in front of him. Iri felt so much relief at that moment, her throwing her arms around his neck and her face in his shoulder. Her human tensed up for a moment before finally relaxing. She could feel the cool metal of his mechanical hand on the back of her neck. It was only a few seconds, it feeling like minutes. A moment of peaceful bliss and hope.
The gunshot rung out, slicing through the silence. Iri felt the impact against the back of her head, the force rather strong. As she slipped into darkness, her brain attempted a thought before succumbing to it.
Chase, I lov...

Post by Sandy Bell on Sept 10, 2015 9:21:31 GMT
Sandy Bell had been using her Pulser SMG to target and eliminate individual Olmec spheres with short bursts, but knew they would be over run by them soon, when she witnessed Sophie's grand plan to destroy them all come to fruition. A wide grin crossed her pretty tan face when Sophie appeared to essentially take a bow, and Sandy had to admit she deserved it. Sarge, Sandy's EGO psyche, sent Sophie a quick heartfelt message of "Bravo!" but was at the same time pondering something Atticus had said while Sandy was unconscious. "Sandy," Asked Sarge stroking his virtual square jawed chin, "Didn't these old EMC bunkers always have an air shaft that flowed down the hallway just under the ceiling and always to the left going in?" Sandy's grin grew wider as she exchanged her SMG for her detonator, replying, "Yes Sarge, yes they did." Sandy placed a perfect circle of glowing grenades on the ceiling to her left with her detonator, then detonated them making a hole in the air shaft above, before saying to Atticus Batman, "There's your entrance Commander! You should be able to follow that to the next room past any guards. It will be a circular control room, with an air vent right in the center. Good luck sir!"

Post by Lady Christianna on Sept 10, 2015 9:56:07 GMT
At the Iron Demon Ranch, where her Ark Hunter's clan, Team Evolution, used to hang their collective hat, Lady Christianna used to watch the clan founder, Somedude, carefully make a house of cards as he drank. Inevitabley, he would drink too much, knock it over, and go into a drunken tirade about how unfair the game was. At the time, Lady was never sure if he was referring about the card game he was playing with gravity or the game of life, but today she was positive it was Life he was angry about.
Lady could feel her master plan folding like Somedude's house of cards. She could feel the cold hand of Fate at the nape of her chalk white neck, as card by card of her plan fell, and could almost hear Fate laughing at her. If Fate could talk, Lady was sure it would taunt, "You dare to think you are somebody? You are a nobody! You were born a nobody! You will die a nobody! And nothing you are or have done will be remembered even the day after you die!"
Lady bit her lower lip, her young face twisting in indecision as her wide pink eyes stared for the millionth time at the large red button fixed on the arm of her throne of skulls. She feared all had gone wrong in Edmonton, for Inquisitor Ganger had not reported that the spire was online yet, and he should have by now if he had been successful. Brody had just reported that the Monarch was down, which meant that only her Amazons were left between her and her probably vengeful former team mates. Lady had tried to make Erika, Iri and even Belle understand the great things she was trying to do here, yet they all refused to understand, either seeing her as either misguided, foolish of both, and all of them treated her as a child.
Lady's pink eyes narrowed and her thin lips turned to a pout, as she muttered, "I am NOT a child! I am seventeen years old and I am going to save the world whether anyone wants me to or not!" Then said into her hailer, "Brody, move the Amazons forward to engage and subdue the enemy."
Lady reached next to her throne, picking up her Crimefighter shotgun and putting it across her small lap as she blew a large bubble with the gum in her mouth, popping it loudly then saying out loud to herself, "If they want me to be the villain of the piece, than I'll be the villain of the piece! So be it! Bwa HA ha!"

Post by Erika Widowmaker on Sept 10, 2015 10:28:12 GMT
Erika Widowmaker led Belle Starr and Lena Marr down the hallway towards the team, just missing Atticus as he was helped into the airshaft in the ceiling, quickly disappearing down it. When the three warrior women arrived, only three adversaries remained, and Erika quickly determined who should fight whom. She chose the adversaries by who was least likely to hurt each other because of their past relationships, but also she had been ordered to delay the battle by Lady, so she reasoned that if both sides were afraid to hurt the other and hold back, then the battle would be long indeed. "Belle, you fight Volodja! Lena, take Marcel! I'll take Sandy!" Erika barked the orders like a top sergeant. Belle bound like a ballerina towards Volodja, her Thorn Liro charge blade humming as she danced. Lena on the other hand move forward cautiously, both bowie knives extended in open arms as if to offer herself to Marcel, although the wicked smile on her lush lips and hard gleam in her long lashed sky blue eyes said otherwise. Erika on the other hand, lifted the huge two-handed sword above her head and charged Sandy with a primordial roar, hoping to cower the young soldier into submission.
