Belle walked into the nursery, seeing me feeding both babies. Her smile widened as she saw I had the problem well in hand, but sashayed into the room, relieving me the duty of caring for one of the children. As she sat down taking over the feeding of little Cosmin as I cared for Caprice, she cooed at the little baby boy who smiled at her as he fed, his electric blue eyes fixated on her own beaming beautiful freckled face.
I continued feeding Caprice in the way that I was, when Belle entered. After a couple of minutes I gently put my big arm around Belle from behind and pulled her back into my chest. As I hugged her from behind, I kissed her forhead and said. "Thank you Starr Eyes...and I don't just mean for feeding Cosmin. I mean for just coming in here to spend time with us. I...well since I awoke from the coma and Lady and Erika gone and you still gone, I felt alone. Very alone.
I know I wasn't alone here in our home. However I felt it. Even with Wolfram by my side the whole time, trying to assure me that I wasn't. Even after our hug on the roof I felt it, although I no longer felt as alone. Yet despite all you have gone through and what you must be feeling with Lady, Erika, Volodja...and perhaps Smythe, gone and Chase now in surgery, you still chose to come in here and spend time with me and the twins.
So...well...I know I am not the easiest to get along with or want to be near and I know I definitely have never said or fully meant what I am trying to say and do fully mean but...um...well here goes. Thank you for being a little sister to me, for being our family. Thank you for bringing me and Lady together. Thank you for showing me that I can and am part of a family. So thank you again for...well for everything.
Belle, I don't see you blaming me for Lady leaving, which I suppose is good, since I blame myself for it. However that means you are probably blaming yourself in some way.
Don't. It's not your fault. If anyone is to blame it is either me or the Mistress of Judgment, as we are the ones who kept pushing pressure on Lady in some way. Definitely not you. Besides Doctor VOn Ecshen is quite certain that Lady is suffering from Post-pardem depression because of the rough childbirth. So that would also be my fault as I am the one that got her pregnant, not you. Besides we WILL bring our family back and help them in every way that they need... Anyway Belle, thank you, for being you and for being here for everyone. I am always here for you as well, even if I have a hard time showing it, I do care about you as my sister and one of my best friends. Now let's just enjoy our time here as brother and sister feeding the twins. Lady's and my babies, and your niece and nephew."
I hugged Belle again then let her go. I then picked up Caprice and held her to my chest and fed her more like the way that Belle was feeding Cosmin, for even though I don't know much about family in any way, I have spent several hours with the twins since I awoke from my coma and have realized that they not only love and enjoy the closeness of family holding them, but that they need it, as much as I am realizing that I need it.
After the twins were done eating, we burped them, changed them, and then held them until the fell asleep. We then put them in their cribs and watched them, until I got an EGO message from Corporal Lebeau. "Mon Commandant, I am sorry to interrupt your private time. I do hope dis EGO message be a better idea dan hailin you while you are wit your family, as I don'nt wanna disturb no sleepin chilren. Actually I be sendin dis EGO to all de commandement team so dey know dey be needed in de War Room. Anyway dis be important. We jus received a video from Lady Christianna, dough she be callin herself De Mistress of Sorrow, now. It be addressed to de commandement of Fortress K'shaa."
I thanked Lebeau, then said quietly to Belle, "Family time is over. I know you also just got an EGO message from Corporal Lebeau, that we are needed in the War Room immediately, as it appears that there is a video from Lady in the War Room awaiting our Command team. I say we view it as soon as we get there, even if nobody else is present. We can fill in the team later, if needed. However I really want and need my Snow Angel back and know she needs us more than she thinks."

"Okay Kaj I'm afraid I need your help again", Vo said, scratching his head, "Just push it from this side slightly up and away from the stone. I could use my ATV for it, but I think you can make it with much less damage done to the roller."
As Kaj did what he was asked to, the roller's rear fell off both the stone and the jack and settled on all its four wheels on the ground. Vo pulled the tire jack from under the roller, put it back into the trunk and thanked Kaj for the job well done again. Then he started the engine and checked if everything is fine with it.
"Now team, here's your ride", Vo said to both his team mates, "I'm going taking my ATV as usual. I think I see there's a place we can get back on the road without having problems with its grip on the grass. The roller has a winch so we could use it if everything else fails."
Kaj, nodded at Vo in agreement, then looked at the Challenger with much scrutiny, then he said to Vo K'shaa and Security Officer St. John, "You want me to crawl into that little thing? I will do my best. Officer St. John, perhaps you better drive as I doubt I will have much room. Dang. I think I know how Sardines would have felt, if they were crammed into those little cans alive!"
After some odd maneuvering, Kaj did finally get situated in the passenger seat of Chase's Challenger. After they got it back on the road without any trouble, they headed right back to Fortress K'shaa.

Atticus said quietly to Belle, "Family time is over.
'"Some of the team are still not back on base! Sandy and Volo are on their way back from Red Deer, and Vo and Kaj were investigating the crime scene of Iri's abduction! Plus Kaj and Wolfram don't have EGOs, and I don't know about you, but I think they both may have different perspectives that could help us plan our next move, so lets just have LeBeau send Lady's message to our encrypted data pads, although let's you and I view it first" Suggested Belle to Atticus.
Once the order had been given to LeBeau to do as Belle suggested, both Atticus and Belle dutifully took out their data pads and saw a close-up of Lady Christianna's chalk white face suddenly dominate the data pad screen. Lady's face looked haggard with large dark circles around her eyes that were not part of her makeup. Her hair was dyed black, but in pigtails that made her look even younger than her seventeen years. To Belle, her voice sounded tired and unsure, as if she had been under a great strain for some time, although once Lady finished her prologue to Atticus and was actually making a speech to what appeared to be a room of Indogenes with Inguisitors scattered among them, she spoke confidently and with a fervent belief in what she was saying.
Lady began with her signature smile in place, although to Belle it seemed much sadder that usual, "Hi Atticus. Hella all. I'm okay. Erica, Brody, Iri and all my brain trust okay. Wrong not to tell what I'm doing. Telling you now... Miss you Atticus. Hope kids are... okay. Better off with you. Need to do this," Lady slowly licked her lips as if her mouth had suddenly gone dry as tears welled up in her pink wide eyes and she forced a laugh, "Second class hero, first class villainess. I... miss you Atticus. Wish I could see you but... can't till I'm famous like you, like Belle. Worthy of you. Worthy of... me... Must be villainess... ruthless... enough to get job done. Belle taught me that. Only villains don't worry about how they reach goals. Heroes worry about how, villains only about ends. Think if world is ever going to be safe for children... for people, ends justify means " Lady could be seen shrugging her thin shoulders as she blew a large gum bubble, then popped it loudly as she ended her monologue, "So villainess. Deal. Awesome. Listen please..."
Belle and Atticus watched the video in silence that showed Lady standing confidently on a stepstool as she addressed a room of sullen Indogenes and smiling Inquisitors, but their smiles seemed forced to Belle. Lady seemed both sincere and sure of herself in her speech until the end of it, when she asked her audience if there were any questions, and she seemed relieved when there were not. There was no postscript after the speech, just the data pad screen going black and then LeBeau's voice informing them that was all there was that was transmitted.
"Thank you, Mr. Lebeau," Said Belle EGO to EGO, adding, "Please send that transmission to all active team members!" Then she turned to Atticus, her blue diamond eyes wide, "Let me assure y'all Atticus, I never advised Lady to be a villain! When she was my protégé, we would discuss the nature of good and evil and that villains had more leeway to reach goals because they could afford to ignore how they reached them, but heroes never can! I had not idea she would fixate on..." The edges of Belle's rose petal lips turned down into a frown as she let the sentence trail off, asking, "Atticus, this is neither your fault or mine, so get such thoughts out of your head! I know I'm going to try my hardest to do so, because we need to focus on our next move, like what in tarnation are we going to do to save Lady from herself!"
Belle called the nurse to take over care of the twins in the base nursery, then Belle and Atticus left for the War Room, all the time Belle hoping Atticus didn't notice her beginning to hyperventilate as she frantically controlled it using the techniques taught her by Vo ad Volo both.

"Let me be straight in my expressions," said Wolfram von Eschen. "SCHEISSE! I was enjoying my vacation here in Red Deer. I had ABSOLUTELY nothing to do that drink brandy in good company. Sandy handled the Volodja situation herself. You two can come with me to the Paradise territory. Miss K'Shaa? Arnim?"
"I'm sorry gentlemen, but I have to stay", Lu answered with a sad smile, "You said I should not lose my hope and now my hope is here, in this city. Moreover, I can feel things are starting to get turbulent here again with those rumors of Indogene people disappearing and all. I think I'll be more helpful if I stay here. I'll be in touch so don't hesitate to call if you need something done from my side."
When Wolfram went away, Lu made Arnim's hailer ring with a call.
"Save the number", she said, ending the call when Arnim grabbed it to answer, "It's my ID number in the Network. Now listen. Just before we met you, Volo was followed by someone strange people who acted like they were professional killers but at the same time they didn't want to attack him openly just yet. Volo is a good fighter and he has a good backup in the person of his girlfriend, so I have no doubt he can handle them. But let's face it, you're not in your best shape. From what I have heard, you're his close friend, and that means they could turn on you in case they want to hurt him. They may see you as a weak link. I know it's probably against your gentleman's nature to call a girl for help and protection, but listen. If something happens to you, Volo will never forgive himself for getting you into trouble even if it was done inadvertently. I will not forgive myself for failing to rescue such a nice guy like you. So, if you get into trouble — call. Chances are they don’t expect you doing that."
She stood up and smiled, looking straight into his eyes as she added, "Let it be our little secret. Just between you and me."
"Is someone trying to commit a drunk driving?" One of the drones asked with Esthete's voice as Lu was opening the door of her Hellblazer.
"Oh come on", She replied with a feign annoyance in her voice, "If you were that nosey as you try to pretend you are, you would know I took not a single drop of spirit tonight. Tell me this. Are you sure you're not getting overboard with all these security measures again? Are you really sure people here are in danger?"
"I'm pretty sure Miss Lu", The voice continued through her EGO communication, "The assassin which attacked your team at the airfield was from a secret and very powerful Votan organization. If it is connected with Indogene people disappearances in Bay area, we have to be very well prepared and very careful in our actions. Besides, your knowledge of the underground can be very helpful."
"I'm ready to help", Lu replied, "But keep me informed of your actions in that regard in exchange please."

"Thank you, Miss K'Shaa," said Arnim Mueller-Stahl. "For your pleasant company and your care. I better watch out then. And if you are worried about my pride then I don't have any prejudices about strong and independent women. Actually - all people I know don't have such prejudices. It's a 21st Century after all. I have seen women even in battles and they fought better than lot of men would. Not to mention female hospital personnel who fought for our lives when we were there. Seeing that kind of efforts makes one proud about women. You can be sure that I will call you when I am in trouble. It was a rare privilege to spend an evening with you, Miss K'Shaa." He klicked his heels - one real, one artificial - together and bowed, just like Wolfram von Eschen did, when Lu left.
After that he sat behind his desk, took out his notebook and started to write...Unexpected meetings tend to be inspirational and when Muse visits you, the you better seize the opportunity and have a date with her.

Aforementioned Wolfram von Eschen rushed into airport like he was gone with the wind. His tall figure cut through the crowd just like an ice breaker at work. Even bald guys in yellow and orange robes avoided to step on his way. "Hare..." tried to yell one of them, but Wolfram just snapped: "Krishna! If you want to avoid a damned reincarnation then you DO NOT slow me down! Verstehen Sie! I have never seen anything like this in Frankfurt am Main." Men in yellow evaluated correlation of strength and had to give up. It was easier to tame raging bull than pass a brochure to Wolfram. Thanks to his decisiveness he made to the plane undisturbed, greeted people on board, mumbled: "Gute Nacht alle zusammen." what meant - "Good night everybody" and after settling himself comfortably into the plush chair, fell asleep right away.

Post by Sandy Bell on Aug 31, 2015 14:01:30 GMT
Candyass greeted the team at the door of the VBI VTOL plane, noting that Sandy came back hand in hand with a handsome man, so deduced, "Welcome back y'all! Aren't y'all two just the cutest couple! This must be the illustrious Volodja y'all were looking for! If in I knew he was so good looking, I would have helped y'all look!" The grey-haired stout black woman laughed good naturedly, then introduced herself to Volodja warmly shaking his hand, "I'm Candace Ash, but y'all can call me Candyass, not offence taken, it's just what people call me! My Sandy, y'all need to feed this sweet boy more! There fresh fried catfish and hush puppies in the back, along with chilled beer in the cooler, although the beer is Canadian I'm sorry to say! Y'all get comfortable, and I'll get this crate in the air."
The threesome got comfortable in the lavish accommodations of the plane's cabin, Volodja and Sandy cuddling together on one of the bench seats silently enjoying each other's company while Wolfram dozed. Suddenly, all three's data pads lit up and chimed, so that they then viewed the message and it's accompanying video. When the video ended, there was several moments of silence until Sandy broke it.
"Poor kid," Said Sandy with empathy, "When I was her EGO, I was always having to bolster her self confidence, but I NEVER would have guessed her damn insecurities were this great! Just as importantly, those Indogenes need to be rescued, I'm sure of that, but how do we do it without destroying Lady. I don't mean physically destroying her as much as mentally. This situation sucks big time," Then Sandy looked sidewise at Volodja with big blue eyes, revealing perhaps her own insecurities by adding, "Excuse my language please."
*****
Taffer frowned, accessing his data pad with his EGO so that the Diabolical Duo would not be able to see the encrypted video that was for team mates eyes only, but Lena and Marcel could tell his attention had suddenly got divided, so Lena asked Marcel, "So... what's our next move, Lover of Mine?"
Actually, Lena didn't care as long as it had the potential of being adrenaline and scrip producing. What Lena was actually thinking about was what possible romantic nickname would be most appropriate for Marcel, "Pookie bear? Love bunny? Shag monkey? Hump bug?"
All the voices in her head began arguing over the topic, so Hope snuck back into the control booth of Lena's EGO and suggested, "Maybe something without an animal theme - something more cosmopolitan, with an international flavor maybe? I mean, he is French!"
"I got it!" Thought Lena to Hope, "Fuck Muppet! It's international! I think it's Austrian!"
"Um... I don't think so," Replied Hope.
"Yeah," Lena thought back, "I may as well call him Fuck Frog!" Then Lena started to laugh out loud so hard she thought she might keel over, making both Taffer and Marcel stare at her like she had lost her mind, which might have been the case, although if so, happened a long time ago.

"Hello Candace. You are a real eye-candy indeed. If I wasn't taken then..." and Volodja smiled to her in his most warm and friendly manner before cuddling in with Sandy in one of the seats. When hailer interrupted their comfortable travel in each other arms, Volodja listened Sandy and said:
"I am not a Professor Henry Higgins from "My fair Lady" to judge you by your language, my girl. I don't think, like he did, that fancy language is everything. If you want to improve it then I will gladly help you with that. But you have lot of qualities, so few cussing words won't mean a thing compared with the rest. They are part of you but not all of you - you are beautiful, my girl. Both your soul and your looks are beautiful. Don't you dare to think other way about yourself. I love you and want you. All of you.
But Lady...I am afraid that she is fallen under wrong influence and it could destroy her. Mentally. She still searches herself and I am sure that being Mistress of Sorrow isn't her thing. Those damned fanatics won't care about anything when they follow their cause. Human life or human mind doesn't mean a thing. The cause is all that counts. And even if Lady became their figurehead, that doesn't mean that she isn't been taken advantage of. She is just a kid, damn it! Sorry about that, my girl.
I understand her motives actually. She wants to become somebody, but she picked wrong measures to achieve her goal and its our duty to convince her about that. We have to figure out how because she must be separated from his gang of merry inquisitors. Just to avoid their attempts to influence her any more. I am usually for personal choices, but in this case we are dealing with bunch of experienced political intrigants. And their way is not the bast way for Lady. She is not the material. If you look at the video you will see what I mean by that. We must convince her that she might become to somebody without having to be Mistress. That the image she applies to have is controversial and it's still not too late to stop. But we need to lure her away from her new "family" first."
Wolfram von Eschen woke up because of the hailer call as well, looked at the message, watched the video, muttered something in German under his nose and fell back asleep.
Volodja looked into beautiful eyes of Sandy Bell and embraced her tenderly. "We will succeed in that," he said. "I am sure. Now we have just sit and enjoy our flight and having each other because we can't do anything else about saving Lady at moment."
________________________
Marcel Lestrange thought about nicknames as well. "Quelle coïncidence! What a co incidence!" he would have been yelling if he could read Lena's mind. "Pumpkin and Honey Bunny?" he asked himself. Or should they use something more impressive? Decisions, decisions...
"If you are not mind then Lena and I will visit the local restaurant. All this bargaining made me hungry," said Marcel. "Come, my love. Let me treat you with a decent meal before we leave this place. And you can decide what we are going to eat." Gluttony in Lena's mind started to make suggestions right away.

Post by Vo Kshaa on Aug 31, 2015 19:24:42 GMT
Vo passed through the gate on his ATV and stopped it next to the silver Challenger which he easily distinguished as Taffer's. As he was the only one who Taffer shared his secret with, he scratched his head, thinking what the appearance of this roller there could mean while he waited for other team members to arrive. Once they exited their vehicle, he addressed his team members:
"Kaj, please bring the report to the Commander on what have you found at the place where Iri and Chase were attacked. I'll consult with our scientific group and then I'll give my part of the report. Officer St. John, good job on covering us. Please return to your duties."
At this point he left to the scientific wing of the base. On his way, he received Lady's message on his data pad. Once he had watched it, he had to suppress his urge to rush out of the base, get on his ATV and race to wherever Lady now is to hug her and then shake some sense into her. But then, he knew it won't work this way. If she didn't listen to Atticus and she didn't listen to Erika, why she would listen to him?
"One problem at a time", he told to himself. "First I need to know if this clue I found will lead to know what type of mind control they are using."
When he found Haele at the lab, she was occupied with some research a usual.
"Hello Haele. Nice to see you again", he said as a quick greeting and then went straight to the point, showing the spectrum and the geometric pattern of the spark on a holographic screen. "I need to determine the source of the spark that was withered the paint on the car. Can you help me with it?"
Haele looked at the image and went completely silent and still as a statue. When Vo felt something is not right with her and raised his hand to touch her shoulder, she said one word in a weak voice.
"Omec."
"Pardon, what?" Vo asked as the word didn't tell him anything.
"If you don't know what it means, you better treasure your ignorance. You'll have much better sleep this way." She went silent for a moment and then another phrase escaped a speaker of her environment suit, "If that's Omec who are doing all that, then we are doomed."
"Haele", Vo finally took a step closer to her and touched her shoulder, "I thought I was doomed a couple of months ago when I was locked in a glass coffin filled with liquid and was about to drown. You were doomed when the energy explosion dissipated your body, turning you into nothing but a ghost, secluded inside the dead spaceship. But here we are standing here and trying to find a way save your kind from being kidnapped and maybe enslaved. If we are truly doomed and our only hope is a miracle, here's the right place and right people who can make it happen. Why don't we help them with that if we have nothing to lose anyway? If you think I'm not trusty enough, then tell to Atticus or Belle or Taffer."
"Okay, I'll tell you. But don't curse me for that after. Omec is a superior race or at least they consider themselves superior, treating all other races as cattle to serve them… and to be used as their food. This spark was from their stun rod, a tool they use to ride the herd around. They were believed to be extinct or at least not to make it from the Votanis System. If they are here, they will soon kidnap and enslave all of the sentient races on this nice planet, and then after they are bored with playing their toys, they well eat us. Is it too much for you, little Irathient?"
"No, not too much", Vo looked at her suit's face plate with determination. "And actually, I need to know some more. My main question is, do they have a mind control and is there a way to disable it without hurting the captured one?"
"It would be strange if they hadn't", Haele replied. "They do have it. A visibly simple piece of metal enters your neck and then… Then you still can think, walk and talk, but you do exactly what you've been said by the owner. As for the means of disabling it…"
"Okay Haele, I think everything else should be said to all the team in the War Room", Vo interrupted her, "They may have questions I can't think of ay this time and may require some additional information once they hear what you just said to me. Please come."
He ushered Haele to the War Room, sending his message to Belle, Atticus and Taffer, "Please meet me in War Room. I have important information to tell."
When he came to the Room, he could not help but see Belle trying to control another bout of panic attack and quickly ran up to her to help. He took her hand and started whispering numbers to her ear to help normalize her breathing. Once her anxiety calmed down, he whispered in her ear, "Belle, we really need to do something so that these bouts become not so frequent at least. I think we can try meditation. I happen to know a friend who is an expert in it, so we can pay him a visit once we have a spare hour or two."
He kept holding her hand until they waited for Taffer to come.

"How nice and naive", Taffer thought, watching Lady's message which Belle transferred to the team. There was another important detail he noticed in it and that he wanted to share with the team. After a minute or two Vo called the team to another meeting in the War Room so he excused himself from the company of Diabolical Duo and aimed his steps back to the War Room. When saw Haele in the room, an idea came to his mind and he exclaimed "Just a moment please!" after which he yanked the emergency power switch, turning off most of the equipment in the room.
"Haele, you're an energy being, so could you please tell me if you feel any unusual electronic activity here now?" He asked as his EGO scanned around the room as well.
Haele's suit spat a beam of light from its sleeve, pointing at the desk with a sparkling dust on it.
"Nanites, right?" Taffer concluded, "Can you destroy them?"
The beam became even brighter and dust particles flashed, emanating a sound of broken glass. The dust ceased to sparkle and now looked more like a dark sooth.
"Great", Taffer appraised and then turned the power back on, switching computers on one by one, looking at Haele after each switch.
"That one", Haele pointed at one of the computers, "Unusual transmission at boot-up".
"Even greater", Taffer said, plugging the offending device off, "Anything else?"
"Nothing more that I can sense", Haele replied. Taffer looked out of the doorway, making sure no one is listening at the door. Then he closed it and made his Decoy stand next to it with its sensor sweep on so that no one could sneak in with their Cloak on.
"Thank you Haele. Sorry for stealing the show, but this room was visited by unwanted people too many times. Yes, one time is too many", Taffer explained, "So I have to make sure we're not eavesdropped. Now I must say, that part I said about the Trolley Graveyard was a ruse to give some misinformation to our spies if we have any. There's no Core in the Graveyard. Its whereabouts remains unknown since Nim was defeated. I have the controls to those scrappers as well as Vo and we can monitor the activity there at any time we have the connection. If any of the Inquisitors show up there, we'll know we've been spied and how fast the information is spread. Atticus, I do remember your no-deceive-Lady order, but that doesn't mean we can't deceive spies in our ranks if there are any. If you wish so, we can place a message for Lady that this was a simple check for spies. If it wasn't her who sent them, then I'm sure she's smart enough to understand that someone acts behind her back.
And moreover, the rarest part is actually the Terrasphere, not the Core. It's an enormous database which contains all the DNA's of Votan plants and animal life. That is, if someone really wants to recreate some nice habitable landscape. If you want to only wipe out all life and leave the lifeless desert behind you, you won't need a Terrasphere. The Core, the Cell and the Matrix will suffice to start the Terraspire. That's what was done at the day of Defiance, and that's what Nim tried to do.
Now, that's another thing I want to share with you since I have the word already. Look at the recording Lady sent to us. See those smiling bunch of Inquisitors? To me, they do not believe in Lady's words the slightest, and it just confirms to me that she's being manipulated with some much more evil thoughts in their minds. The question is, how they are planning to exploit Lady's naive plan to build Paradise and when they are going to backstab her. Okay, I'm shutting up now. Vo, you have the word."

"Well, It's not me who will have the word, it's Haele", Vo answered shyly. "I'll just say that I found a trace of some shocking device being used supposedly on Chase, and the origin of the device was unknown to me before I consulted with Haele. Everything else would be better told by our shiny genius."
"Vo asked me to tell anything I know about this matter so I will tell", Haele started. "The stun rod is obviously of the Omec technology. Does everyone here know who Omec are? Good, I'll waste much less time then. Vo's main question was if the Omec has the mind control technology and I have to say, yes, they have one. A small rod which is placed into the Indogene's neck to make them all submissive but still leaving them some space to think clearly, only without the free will. From what I've heard, someone had adapted the technology to work with races other than Indogene, so the question if it's possible for it to work on other spaces can be closed with an affirmative answer now.
The second question was if the mind control can be disabled somehow. The answer is as simple as it can be — you need to get close and yank it out of the victim's neck. Don't expect them standing still in the process, especially if they were ordered to protect themselves from being released. There's a second approach, but it will only work if the commander is not using the Omec language to command their slaves. The method, as you may guess already, is to give the order in Omec language which always has the priority. The key is to voice a short command to yank out the rod before anyone could understand what happened so the victim could execute the order before the master overrides it with their own command in Omec language.
Foreseeing the next question, I answer it right away. No, the command can't be recorded and played back. The device is smart enough to detect if a living being has said it. Same way trying to phonetically imitate the command without knowing the language won't work as well. Answering another question — yes, I know Omec enough to issue simple commands and yes, I'm ready to go with you if you need it. If I wasn't, I wouldn't be telling you all this now. Anything else you want to know?"

Belle Starr gave Vo Kshaa's hand a quick but firm squeeze before letting go, then with a sidewise glance of her beautiful blue diamond eyes and a equally quick smile, thanked him for his help overcoming her panic attack more than words ever could. She surveyed the War Room, wishing Volodja and Wolfram were back so that there psychological experts could give their opinion, but Taffer had them on communication lockdown, rightfully fearing spies, Any communication transmission outside of the base could likely be monitored, particularly if the Inquisition was using Olmec technology. Belle surveyed the room, noting that Chloe MacGyver sat in the back at her work console, the pretty redhead still sitting in her wheelchair with her foot in a cast. Belle nodded to her, as Chloe nodded back with a smile, reminding Belle that she needed to again try to convince Chloe to accept an EGO implant, particularly if she was going to be an active member of the team.
Belle spoke up, "I don't think it's common knowledge, but I met an Omec when I was lost in the mines below Defiance the last time we were there! Maybe I just got lucky, but he didn't seem any more dangerous than any other folk, however I didn't have to fight him, we just talked as he led me to an exit, but my EGO did record the unique Omec energy signature and let me tell y'all - his energy levels went through the roof! So there are Omec on the planet, but I haven't heard of any in Paradise! Chances are though if we have cloaking tech, they have some ten times better than ours, so they could be here and we just don't know it!" Belle's pretty freckled face turned grim as she gestured to Chloe with one pale hand, "There's something else y'all need to know, but I'll let Chloe share with y'all the other bad news!"
Chloe looked up with intense green eyes at the overhead where a picture of Lady's haggard chalk face from the video she sent them was frozen, her ruby lips turned down in a frown as she said in her thick Australian accent, "Poor fuckmuppet, Lady is in for it, by Crikey! Belle had me look into what Iri was researching, curious why Lady didn't take her then and there instead of waiting till later! I came to the conclusion that either she hadn't formulated her plan so far to include kidnapping of Indogenes, or she wasn't sure she would have access to more Omec control rods, or maybe both. I don't think it was because that time was of the essence for her escape, as Lady had Brody copy some files from the work station that Iri had been working at from a computer in the Infirmary just before Lady and her entourage left. Iri had some pretty sophisticated locks on the info, so she must have been awfully worried that someone besides her would access it, but Brody found a back door, although the information has since been deleted by Iri. Unfortunately, it was like closing the chicken coop door after the dingo has already eaten your prize rooster. Anyway, I was able to trace through an old record menu and found a separate file of Dark Matter notes that discussed what was in the file. Evidently, it was an Omec formula for a drug that kept Indogenes mind controlled for life, and which was used on the Omec planet to keep the Indogene enslaved for the long term."
"Lady and the Inquisition now have this formula, and Iri was nervous enough about it to delete it from our files, even though she was a guest only officially permitted to look for files that could help Chase regain his memory, albeit too late," Interjected Belle in a worried tone, "We have to face the fact that if Lady and the Inquisition has the formula, she may have mass produced the drug already using the Inquisition resources, and now has a way to capture the minds of all the Indogenes on Earth that evidently can't be countered!"
As Belle unveiled the bad news to her colleagues in the War Room, a machine in Haele's lab dinged that it had finished it's job of scanning for fingerprints on the map Lena had stolen form Micor Newlo, the Inquisition's second-in-command. The scan had found two identifiable set's of fingerprints, and sent the information directly to Taffer's EGO. The first set was Micor Newlo's, which they had on file from when he was incarcerated in Freedom, Alabama. The second, which they had from stolen Votan Collective records, was Governor Skarr's.
*****
Unbeknownst to those in Fortress Kshaa, Micor Newlo, the Castithan Master of Stealth and the Inquisition's right hand man was enjoying the view of Red Deer from the balcony of the Red Deer Hilton's penthouse. He was pleased that it had recently been vacated, so that he could move his base of operations to both a more suitable and more comfortable location. He smiled as he took in the fresh air, wondering if the air would taste any sweeter once the Inquisition's plan in Red Deer was executed. Suddenly, his encypted hailer rang with a long distance call from the Presidio bunker in the San Francisco wasteland.
"This is Micor Newlo, how can I help you?, " Micor's handsome smile widened, as he relished the rich sound of his deep voice saying his own name, but it quickly turned to a frown as the call progressed, exclaiming, "WHAT?... You let her do what?... No communications were to go in or out of the Presidio while I was gone; were my orders unclear?... Just make sure this DOESN'T happen again! I don't care how you do it!...Good, because if you don't, heads will roll and your's will be first!"
Micor hung up without even saying farewell, which he usually made a dramatic production of doing, but he was fuming as he thought, "The little brat is going to ruin everything! I wish the powers that be would let me put a bullet in the runt's brain, the useless female, but that is counter to my orders. For now, she is untouchable, but only for now! At least things are progressing well here in Red Deer! Almost all the canisters are in place, and the authorities here are completely in the dark, thanks to Omec technology!"
Micor poured himself a glass of wine, then sipped it savoring it's rich taste to console himself, thinking, "Some things humans really did get right!"

Chase slowly came out of his slumber, finding himself in the infirmary. He was still slightly doped up, but clear minded enough to still be driven to save Iri at any cost. He looked down at his left leg, finding knee wrapped and some sort of knee brace tightly secured on the inside and outside of his leg. Chase slipped off the table, realizing the knee brace gave him little flexibility, enough flexibility to be able to walk with minimum problems.
"If you're wondering," Doctor Orion's voice caught his attention. "It's enough for you to move around. You have enough flexibility to move quickly. But I wouldn't recommend you using Blur on your EGO, which could break the brace to shatter, possibly break the sutures at best, maybe even break the bones further."
"McCoy?" he asked.
I'm here, it replied. I just have a little bugs. It's a good thing you have that PDK-82, it took the surge and blew out a couple of resistors. It pretty much save me from damage.
Chase told his right arm to flex, which it did. He wasn't one-hundred percent, but ninety-eight was better than none.
"Where's the others?"
"The War Room. But if you're going, you'll probably need pants."
Chase made his way down the hall, sporting a pair of scrub pants and barefooted. He had three goals on his mind. The first two were destroy the Omec drug and rescue Iri. The third one solely resided on if Lady Christianna's actions have caused some harm to Iri. He finally reached the War Room, Belle was giving bad news about fingerprints.
"Even more reason to kill her," he cut in. "If we know where she is, we should go, right now. She wouldn't expect us coming now. She'd expect us to do what we're doing now, which is gather intel, sit on our asses and come up with a plan. We should go, kick in the door, cut through every Inquisitor that stands between us and her, and then we kill her."
The room had went so quiet, if a pin were dropped, it would have been as loud as an atomic bomb. He could see the look of surprise in each of their eyes, as if they hadn't expected him to say that.
"Chase," Belle looked at him, her mouth opening and closing as she struggled to find the right words. "I-I can't believe-"
"Believe it," he cut her off at the pass as he stepped farther into the room.
"That is my wife," Atticus interjected. "The mother of my-"
"I DON'T CARE!"
The sudden roar that came out of him silenced the Irath. Chase turned to him and approached him, focusing his eyes on him.
"I don't care if she's your wife," he told him. "I don't care if she's the mother of your children. If any harm has come to Iri, I won't have any problem... With taking out a whole bunch of rage I am keeping at bay right now..., on her pretty, white little head."
"Chase?"
He turned to look at Belle, who was the one who said his name.
"It's not that simple," she tried to explain. "Lady's gone nuts, we can't just kill her."
"You had no problems taking out Nim Shondu," Chase replied as he began to approach her. Each step slowly bridging the gap between them. "There's no difference, with the exception of one thing. You all have an attachment to her. Do you think she would give you leniency if the roles were reverse? If she was coming through that front door, do you honestly think she would spare you?"
He looked back at Atticus. "Or you?"
And then he focused on everyone else. "Or any of you?"
He looked back at Belle. "She wouldn't. Nim Shondu was nuts. He threatened every single life on this planet, and Lady is trying to do the same. She wants to be a villain? Fine. Let her be a villain. And let's kill that bitch like we've killed many villains before. We're killers. All of us. And we're good at it."
"I don't believe you," Belle replied. "If it was Iri-"
"I'd put two rounds in her myself! Without hestitation!" he roared once more. "One in the chest, one in the head! If it were you, or Taffer, or Vo, or anyone of you, I'd do the same and without a second thought of it! And if it were me, I'd expect you... ANY of you, to do the same. Because that's what we do to those who claim themselves to be villains."
He could see the tears building up in Belle's eyes, her managing to keep her tears back.
"I can't believe you'd say that," she told him, almost in a whisper.
He leaned in close, looked her square in the eye.
"Like I told you: the bastard I'm going to have to become to save Iri will be a thing of nightmares," he muttered. "And you ain't seen anything yet."

Belle Starr bit her lower lip, fighting back the tears, hating with all her heart what Chase was forcing himself to become, and said, "Chase Lonehart, don't cross that line! Once you let the monster out, it's hard to get him back in, believe me, I know! Listen, Lady is not Nim Shondu! She is a confused teenager suffering from post partum depression who wants to make the world better but feels impotent to do anything about it without taking drastic measures! Nim Shondu was a crazed psychopath who wanted to kill all humans, and in the end just destroy everybody!" Belle played the tape again of Lady's opening message to the team, stopping it before it got to Lady's speech to the Indogene captives, then said with a flash of anger in her blue diamond eyes, "If you had met Nim Shondu, you would have seen the decades of hate in them! They were dead eyes, full of hatred for all things living! Now look at Lady's eyes, more full of confusion then anything else! I'll tell you this right now, I believe she would never hurt Iri on purpose, and my bet is somebody exceeded their orders in hurting you! Every kidnapping of every Indogene was done without killing anyone and a minimum of amount of injury!" Belle started the film again, and shortly after Lady began her speech, the camera panned the audience, with Belle stopping the film and pointing at two Indogenes in the corner of the frame huddled together, saying, "There is Iri and Eren, obviously unhappy, but unharmed! Lady is no Nim Shondu no matter how much y'all want her to be! I personally saw Nim Shondu drop Von Bach off the Golden Gate Bridge on purpose, and he reveled in his cruelty! I couldn't do anything to stop Von Bach's death, and even though he was reborn later, I never will allow myself to stand to the side helpless again while an innocent is killed in front me! Whether y'all choose to believe it or not, Lady is an innocent, and I will not let you murder that child!" Belle took out her Solstice Wolfhound pistol and handed it to Chase butt first, the muscles in her freckeled cheeks quivering in emotion as she said coldly, "If you plan on killing Lady, then you might as well kill me first, right here, right now, because if you don't, I will stop you - period!"

"Makes me wonder, how androcentric Castithans are coping with a female in charge anyway. It took thousands of years to the humans to accept women as equals. Let's take Switzerland for example. It had most unique democracy system - they practised direct democracy in parallel with representative democracy. That's why the Swiss system was called called semi-direct democracy. Direct democracy allows any citizen may challenge any law approved by the parliament or, at any time, propose a modification of the federal Constitution. And yet they gave voting right to women only in other half in 20th century. Women became able to vote and take part in elections at federal level since 1971. At cantonal level, Vaud and Neuchâtel were the first cantons to give women the vote in 1959.
And their democracy was practically the longest lasting democratic tradition in Western world - it's centuries old. Roughly speaking, they followed traditions of the ancient Greek democracy in Athens where everyone had a chance to participate in political life unless you were women, slave, metic - a resident without citizen rights - or too young and so on. That meant only one thing - all important decisions were made by minority. Interestingly it resembles me Castithan attitude about ruling the society. Men and only men can make decisions. I know it's anthropocentric approach but I don't have any other comparing material in my hands so I have to compare Castis and humans. But some thinking patterns tend to apply a wider ground than humanity. Humans can't monopolize male centred thinking patterns. And I can't believe that involved Castithans threw away their traditions about high class male dominance so sudden.
Putting my personal opinions about Mistress of Judgement aside, I must admit that a woman was in charge - tough, intelligent, manipulative woman, so she was able to keep the power. But our present Mistress is sweet, soft, insecure and vulnerable. Easy to manipulate with. She has no authority among our chauvinist Castithan men who are too stiff to break their traditions. If a king or a queen is weak as they tend to be then look for the prime minister. Louis XIII was relatively week so Cardinal Richelieu was them man who kept whole France in his iron fist, covered by velvet glove of diplomacy. Hmm....I am sorry, my girl. My lecture about the politics must be boring as hell but I got carried away and started to think loudly. And I keep doing that...I am sorry for being egoistic all the time. I should have asked you first if you want to listen. I...I will try to keep my blabbering mouth shut now."
Volodja felt guilty because he got carried away with his thoughts and forgot Sandy completely. He was a bad as Cstithan pricks. That's why he quietly called himself a blabbermouth who doesn't know how to treat his girl right. He keeps forgetting that he doesn't teach students. Hopefully Sandy forgives him for his rude behaviour.

Within a fraction of a second, he snatched the gun from her hand, but instead of aiming it at her, he aimed at the monitor behind her and fire a round right next to her ear before she could react to the gun being snatched from her hand. She flinched, covering her ear as he was sure the blast was enough to cause some ringing and minor pain. The look that crossed her eyes told him that she couldn't believe he had the stones to firing a gun that close to her ear, let alone in her direction. He dropped the gun on the floor, staring calmly at her. "She's got an army," he told her. "She's got Indogenes enslaved. And she has a drug that can make more slaves out of them. Do you honestly think she has good intentions? You know damn good and well that this isn't going to end well, for us or for her. And that's what its going to boil down to. The moment she stole the blueprint, the moment she took hostages, she ceased to be an innocent teenager. And its that attachment you have that's going to get you or one of us killed. Are you honestly going to tell me that if she had a gun out about to gun one of us down that you wouldn't even bother to draw?" "I'm not-" "No, that's exactly what you're saying," he cut through the lie. "The fact is that you only believe her incapable of going through with her plan because you believe that you failed her and that you only see her as a teenager. The moment is going to come when you're going to have to choose who lives and who dies: us or her. And when that happens, you tell yourself she's only an innocent, confused teenager when she has one of us with a charge blade to our throat, or a gun to our head. Maybe that'd ease your pain when someone you care about dies from your inaction." He could tell by her eyes that he had a point. He could also see that she didn't want to accept it. "Alexander The Great was a teenager when he started his attempt to take over the world," he said as he began to head out of the War Room. "Just a little food for thought." Chase made his way down the hallway, hearing Belle cuss him out from behind and him leaving the group to process what was going to be inevitable. What it would boil down to. They may have not been able to see it now, but he somehow was ahead of them. It was like standing on a sidewalk, seeing a car off in the distance approaching, and seeing a person standing in the path of the car with their back turned to it. All it would take is one event for them to realize how wrong they were about Lady. In this world, there was no way to fix the insane. There was no way to reason with them. The fact that Lady sent a message only showed a warning of the things to come. Yet no one else bothered to see it. He eventually found his way to the room where he and Iri had been only hours before, locking the door behind him. Chase laid down, staring up at the ceiling, him still smelling Iri within the room. His mind was blank, not sure what the next move would be. Belle telling him not to become the monster may have been the best advice, but it was a monster that was going to be needed to save Iri, and Belle was too afraid to allow hers out again. "You know, what's sad?" he heard his voice in the corner of the room. "I used to care a lot about Belle. Maybe if I had cared less, we wouldn't be in this situation to begin with. Maybe I wouldn't be brain damaged with no chance at memory loss. Maybe you and Iri wouldn't be in the Bay with this whole mess going on. Maybe y'all still be in Freedom, jekkin' like minx and living happily ever after." "What the hell's a minx?" "Fucked if I know," was the only reply he got. Chase couldn't help but roll his eyes. "You know the worst part about having to become 'a monster' as Belle put it?" the voice asked him. "You won't ever be able to be with Iri once again. She's right, when you cross that line, you can't go back. The fact is that when you do, there'd be no way for Iri to love you." "You don't think I know that? I know. I know, god, I know." He could hear a chuckle. "I've got to admit, you definitely showed some restraint keeping yourself from shooting Belle," the voice said. Chase was quiet for a moment. "We're going to need all the fighters we can get," he replied. "No use in killing one." Chase, he heard McCoy. Not that I don't mind your conversation... But who are you talking to?He looked over to the corner where the voice was coming from, not seeing anyone there. He sat his head back down on the pillow, closing his eyes and taking a moment to breathe. "McCoy," he said. "I'm just thinking aloud." There was a knock at the door, which prompted Chase to get up. When he opened it, he found Vo standing there looking at him a moment. He pulled out something from his back pocket, Chase taking a moment to realize it was his VBI Player. "I figured you'd want this back," Vo said. "Thank you," he said as he picked up the Player from Vo's hand. "What you did in the War Room, shooting near Belle's head like that. That wasn't funny." Chase stepped back, gripping the door handle. "It wasn't meant to be," was the only response Vo got as Chase proceeded to close and lock the door. He turned to the mattress of the bed, laying down and looking at the ceiling once more. Every minute Belle was wasting was one minute Lady was getting stronger. And there was nothing he could do until Belle saw that. He pushed the thought out of his head. "McCoy," he mutter. "Would you be so kind as to put some music on?" It took a moment, but McCoy finally found a song to play, the noise filling the interior of his skull with some Nine Inch Nails. I hope you remain unharmed Iri, he thought to himself. For my sake.
