Introduction: Post Facto (an opening for a fan fic, Personal Day)
by CB2001 (aka Chase Lonehart)
Note: The following was originally meant to be the opening intro to a fan fiction story called Personal Day, a fan fiction story that was originally in the works. I had originally started this story with the intention of having a character piece about Chase Lonehart, human Arkhunter, and Iri Sewuel, his Indogene lover. I had started on this after having some difficulty with Seeds of Memory (primarily due to content related issues and likenesses). The intention of the introduction was not just to introduce new readers on the Defiance forum, but to introduce readers for when the story was going to be placed up on fanfiction.net (which is separate from the forums and where a copy of Salvage is available to read). Hope you guys like the short introduction.

Greeting Arkhunters and fellow EGO units. My name is McCoy, and I am the current EGO unit personality for Arkhunter Chase Lonehart. I’m sure you all noticed that I say “current”, which means that there was a previous EGO unit and personality that was Chase’s until a certain point. After which, I was installed. But I’m jumping far ahead of myself here, since this is suppose to be an update report on the current status of Chase Lonehart. Please note that most of this information is gathered through third party sources, such as other people that Chase knows, as well as some first hand experience. There may be some gaps of information due to the lack of available information.
After performing the Historical Salvage for Ara Shondu, Chase Lonehart eventually made friends with several Arkhunters, including renown VBI Arkhunter Belle Starr, human Arkhunter Taffer and his Irathient partner Vo Kshaa and Castithan Rose Sinn. They went on a couple of group missions together and were successful until one that involved an Arkbrain in Tampa, with Rose Sinn leading a dangerous mission into the Quarantine Zone in Florida. The group made their way to Old St. Louis (aka Defiance) for a couple of days and then proceeded to Freedom, Alabama, formerly Pensacola, Florida and Chase’s childhood hometown. While there, Chase reconnected with Iri Sewuel (pronounced as “Airy Say-well”), an Indogene that Chase and his father rescued from certain death at the cost of his father’s life. Chase and Iri also had sex in their apparent trek from the town nine years ago, and apparently still had feelings for each other after all that time after that one time fling. Of course, trouble ensued when Rose Sinn was kidnapped by some people and then left her group behind to go to Tampa alone. Chase, Belle, Vo and Taffer proceeded to go after her, finding an abandoned base.
They got there too late, discovering that Rose Sinn had brought some major Hell to whomever was there, and discovered the Arkbrain was destroyed. As they were leaving, one of the tunnels they were using collapsed. Chase managed to shove Belle and Vo out of the way, and getting caught under the debris. Due to a concrete slab resting his right arm, and a piece of shrapnel embedding itself into his neck and cutting through his EGO unit, by all appearances it looked as if Chase was dead to the others and they had no choice but to leave due to how unstable the structure of the tunnel got. However, Rose Sinn was still around in that area, and pull Chase out of the rubble and got him to Panama City, leaving him in the town’s medical clinic with the belief he would be okay before taking off for some world-wide mission and never to be heard from again.
However, due to his head injury, when Chase woke up, he had no memory of who he was or his past. He still retained procedural (muscle memory) and semantic (general knowledge) memory, but his episodic memory, which was everything who he was, everything that ever happened to him and everyone he knew, was gone. He also lost a part of himself physically. Due to the concrete slab that laid on his right arm for hours, the arm had become gangrened and had to be amputated at his shoulder. It was replaced with a mechanical one, an old PKD-82. When they discovered the remains of his previous EGO unit, there was no way for them to recover information from his past due to the extend of the damage. So, after the old destroyed EGO unit was removed, a new one was installed with me in it. Doctor Marcus Reagan, Chase’s doctor, became a good friend to him and recommended that Chase figure out what to call himself until he could figure out who he is. One night, a movie was on, and Chase connected with it, eventually adopting the name Tom Cody from the film for himself, and dubbed me McCoy after the lead’s female sidekick. After being released from the clinic, Marcus allowed Chase to stay with him for a few weeks until Chase could prove he could handle himself. After proving he could, and finding a copy of a generalized Arkhunter acceptance letter from VBI about the New Freedom trip, Chase loaded up in a new Durango roller, a new outfit and a new helmet with a voice changer and headed off to California by way of the south.
We had some rough patches during the trip to California, including a run in with a group of cannibals that we ended up completely eradicating. Not exactly a smooth situation, but it had to be done because they could have hurt other people. Anyways, when we got to L.A., we spent about a week there but had to leave due to the Fontaine Incident (don’t ask). After arriving in the Bay area, we started from Silicon Valley, helping out as many people as we could. Within the four months after that, we ended up working our way through San Francisco and then into the Paradise areas. Due to a clone of Rose Sinn, our friends were informed of Chase being alive. Iri Sewuel came out to the Bay as well as a means of finally accepting Chase’s death. You can probably guess what a surprise that was. They eventually caught up with us, the clone of Rose Sinn trying to get everyone to go on a mission to South America. During the trip and due to a shootout, Iri accidentally shot Chase in an attempt to shoot a bad person. The helmet he was wearing saved his life, and when they removed it, they confirmed that Chase was who he was.
The mission went tits up after the Rose Sinn clone died. After everyone got back to the Bay, a new mission came up. Everyone else went, with Chase and Iri remaining behind. Iri’s quite determined to try to restore Chase’s memory, but I can’t even tell if Chase would be willing to. Both Chase and Iri haven’t really talked about the progression of Iri’s research, so its hard to say how far along she is. . Another set of relationships strained by current events is Chase and his friends. For some reason he hasn’t really interacted with them much, occasionally running into them without really talking to them during various tasks. He and I haven’t really discussed it. Every time I tried to engage him in that topic, he avoids the talk. Iri has tried to convince him to get back into interacting with the others, but he’s kept his distance about that. So, at this point, I pretty much not bother him about it. Whatever going through his mind about that topic, I’ll never know until he lets on.
Well, that’s about it for a summary of everything that’s happened with Chase thus far. I’ve excluded some useless info, including restroom breaks, Chase’s bout with viral hemorrhagic fever, the few moments of sexual acts between Chase and Iri, sleeping (in bed and in the back of the roller) and a few of the problems we’ve encountered. It’s not likely that anyone wants to hear about any of that, anyway.
So, from the head of Chase Lonehart, this is McCoy signing off. Hope everyone is doing well in the Bay. As Dr. Marcus Reagan once told us, “Every day six feet above ground is a good day.” DEFIANCE!
