As my stretcher is hauled into the Med bay, I start arguing with Doctor Orion again. "You need to save her! I don't care what happens to me! Just save Lady Christianna!"
He hesitantly says, "I will do my best. You know that. Now please let me work."
As he follows her to an operating room, I fight with an orderly who is trying to restrain me, while I am trying to get to my feet.
Doctor Orion tells me to knock it off again so he can work on Lady, because the sooner I settle down the sooner he can try.
I continue to unsuccessfully get out of the stretcher as I continue my arguement with Orion. "Look you daking hagisi (irathiant insult refering to a Liberata's height)! YOU WILL DO EVERYTHING BEYOND YOUR BEST TO SAVE HER AND I WILL BE IN THERE THE WHOLE TIME!"
Doctor Orion grumbles then finally says, "Fine. You can be in there, if you agree to my conditions. One: You are wearing surgical garb and a mask. Two: You will be restrained in a Safety enclosed medical bed in the room, for your own good and MINE. Third: If you yell at or insult me just one more time while we are in there, I will also gag you! However given the circumstances, I will let the current insult slide. Understood?!"
I grumble but quickly agree and apologize for the insult, as the orderly looks at Doctor Orion, who nods his approval. The Orderly removes the restraint, that he managed to get on me. Then a nurse helps me to a sink and washes me up, then helps me into surgical garb and a mask. As Doctor Orion gets ready as well. Then the orderly I was fighting with, helps the nurse get me into the surgical room. After I lay in the bed that they indicate, but insist my head be raised so I can see what is happening, they make sure it is completely secured so I can't get out and hurt the doctor.
I start to say something again, as Orion starts working. However I think better of it and keep my mouth shut, since I would be gagged if I annoyed him. Besides the bed I am in, is on wheels so he could either cover it's windowed sides, or worse have me wheeled out, and since I agreed to the confinement and currently am not capable of freeing myself from it, I wouldn't be able to stop them. So since I insisted that I belong in here and he agreed with stipulations, that I agreed too, I say nothing to him.
Instead I make sure I say loud enough that Lady may be able to hear me, "I love you completely MY Snow Angel. You need to live, if not for me or our baby, then for yourself! Just fight and get better!"
Then I start quietly praying to my Irathiant gods. Afterall, even if they have forsaken me, which I completely deserve for everything that I have and WILL do, Lady and our unborn child did nothing to deserve their wrath. So as I lay there and watch Doctor Orion work, from my caged bed, I continue to pray to and make deals with my gods, hoping that they will listen and help Lady, even if they must take my life in return.
Dinara tries to comfort me, but knows she can't, so after a few minutes of trying, she finally just tells me that she loves me and Lady, then she reluctantly gives up and just sits on her bed. As she looks out her bedroom window to watch everything that I see, she also starts quietly praying for Lady.
While doing so, she wishes that there was atleast somebody in there to comfort her, since she can't comfort me when I am in such need of a miracle. She considers contacting Sophie, but she is too busy helping Volo save Sandy. She considers Kabule and Kakusi, but knows that they have no comfort to give. She also considers contacting her new girlfriend, Amber, but Amber is also very busy. Besides if she begs Amber to come comfort her, then Amber will realize what a baby she is and not want to be with her!Dinara can't risk losing Amber right after getting her. Especially not when she is so afraid of losing Sandy, Lady, and Lady's baby.
Afterall, if they lose Lady, she KNOWS that Atticus will take a long walk into the Storm Divides, or worse, the Quarantine Zone, and never return. Which means she will also lose Amber and all her other friends, if that happens. So she feels that she is better off alone, until she knows Lady will be fine. However it doesn't change the fact that she wishes she could just be crying in Amber's arms, while Amber just holds and comforts her, right now. So instead, she just sits there and cries all alone, hugging herself and cursing Kakusi's powers for giving her sentience, even though she knows she is actually glad that he made her sentient especially now that Amber, Sophie Sandy and Lady are in her life. That last thought makes her cry harder due to knowing that if Lady dies, that she will lose everyone and everything in her young life.

"Ah, the social scientist! More social than scientist" Laughed Alfred at Volodja's insults, continuing, "I suppose we could stand here and trade degrading quips, but then the good captain will surely die. I wonder how long it will take? Will she suffer in the end? Can an EGO truly suffer? Questions worthy of scientific inquiry. Not nearly enough published research on artificial sentience."
"Dad," Belle pleaded with her EGO's psyche, "Sandy is mom's sister! Please help her!"
Alfred quit puffing on his pipe and all those in the room could practically see the wheels turning in his head as his steel blue eyes took on an evil glint, then he answered as he turned back to Volodaja, "Those scientists were fools to experiment on themselves, because if they failed, the world would be lessened by their demise, and their research would be put back decades. I see why you are called fool by your friends, for you admire fools!"
"Dad! Stop it! Focus on the problem!" Asserted Belle, as she tried to stop the light bleeding out of Sandy with towels from the bathroom, but failing miserably, then decided to follow the old idiom that you can catch more flies with honey than vinegar, so she appealed to Alfred's own ego, "You're the only one brilliant enough to figure this out in the time we have, so please do so!"
"I've already figured it out my dear, and how to lessen the danger to the poor EGO girl who your friend just volunteered for possible death, although I would like to hear her volunteer herself. Your mother has also volunteered, but I am loathe to let her in her weakened state. She lost so much of herself keeping you alive during your dip in the Gulf of Mexico and your vain attempt to resist the Mistress of Judgment! However, if two EGOs contribute energy to the transfusion, I do believe all three of the ladies will come out of this virtually alive. Besides, your mother would never forgive me if Sandy died and I did not let her at least try to save her, and one must keep the little wife happy, mustn't one?"
Belle ignored Alfred's condescending manner, and merely said with confidence she really didn't time, "Then lets do this thang!"
Sophie appeared looking like a full color person rather than an EGO hologram due to the the hard light holo-emitters in the room She nodded at Alfred, and he directed her to lay on the floor at one side of Sandy, which she did. MOM appeared next, appearing solid at one moment, then breaking up into little squares of colored light the next, as if the transmission was being interrupted somehow. MOM furrowed her brow and narrowed her blue eyes, identical to the way her daughter did when concentrating on a problem, then smiled and hugged her daughter.
"I love you mom! I miss you so!' said Belle in a whisper too.
"I love you too honey," Said Mom, her voice sounding like that on a car radio that was beginning to lose connection to a favorite radio station.
MOM smiled warmly, a smile so like Belle's, that Volodja felt he was looking at the picture of Dorian Gray, with MOM appearing just like Belle, but with all the ordeals and tragedies of Belle's life worn on the outside rather than hidden on the inside. MOM looked tired and ancient, and teetered as she stood in Belle's embrace. Belle helped her lie down on the other side of Sandy, and Alfred then kneeled and began his work. He put away his pipe, then put a hand on each holo-woman's forehead.
As crimson beams came out of Alfred's eyes the red rays expertly sealing Sandy's wounds, acting like a Da Vinci robot used for laser surgery on humans, Sophie and MOM screamed noiselessly and writhed in the pain, the latter losing coherence. Virtual sweat formed on Alfred's brow as he continued as one ray of light after another beaming out of Sandy's unmoving body disappeared, with MOM's and Sophie's holographic forms losing substance as the operation progressed. The virtual surgery seemed to take hours to the two humans, but was actually finished within the hour, but just as the last beam of light disappeared, so did MOM, and Sophie was barely visible.
Alfred turned to Belle saying, sadness clearly on his face, "I'm sorry Belle, your mother is... gone!"
Belle sat back on her armored haunches and wailed a single wail, sounding more like the beast within her than the human, but the tears that followed streaming out of her diamond blue eyes and down her freckled cheeks as she weeped uncontrollably were all too human.
As Sophie say up, her color and form already returning, Sandy's blue eyes fluttered open as she asked weakly, "Volodja?"

Sophie looked at Alfred and said: "I would have volunteered myself, so Volodja didn't decide anything for me, just for a record. Oh and if you would listened, what Volodja said about using Grid as a transformator, you could get an idea to use base energy for feeding MOM and me, so she would not disappeared. All you had to do, was to ask us, but you were way too full of yourself to listen what other have to say. We believed in you and you did save Sandy, but you sort of failed again, because of your self confidence and foolish pride. You never risk yourself, but put other's lives at stake - that's why you never succeed. I am sorry, Belle. I am really sorry for your loss." And Sophie's eyes filled with tears, before she retreated to her bottega inside Volodja's mind and started to sob.
Before kneeling down to Sandy, Volodja gave Belle a strong hug, whispering: "I am sorry too, Tinkerbelle. I really am. I wish I could bring her back somehow." He didn't care, that he will injure himself more by doing that and he might get attacked by Volge. This time he survived at least for couple of minutes, so he had to put them to a good use.
And then he turned to Alfred, saying: "My condolences for your loss, Alfred. Sophie is just upset, so I hope you don't mind her behaviour. I'll appreciate everything you did for saving Sandy and I'd shake your hand, but I just would stain your outfit." He didn't actually lie, because rubber glove in his right hand was filled with blood from his previously pierced hand. Any attempt to grab something would resulted with blood blurting out.
Because of his blood loss, growing pain and shock, Volodja practically fell to the floor by Sandy's side and before world blackened for him, he managed to whisper: "I am here by your side. Welcome back, Sandy." After that his just leaned his weakened body against the wall and sat there, his head lowered and his left hand touching Sandy's forehead, hoping that he regain some strength soon to get himself up and treat his wound again, because Sophie was still too weak to take care of it. All he managed to do, was sit still, to fight for maintaining his consciousness and touch Sandy with his his unhurt hand.

Alfred disappeared looking forlorn, as Belle quit crying when Volodja hit the ground from blood loss. She immediately put her personal grief on the back burner, as she knelt by Sandy and said, "Sandy, Lady needs you! She's been badly hurt! I'll take care of Volo!" Sandy nodded weakly, then squeezed Volodja's hand hard before disappearing, thinking to Volodja through the EGO implants, "Get well my love. Hell, I don't want to lose either of you." Belle picked up Volodja as if he weighed next to nothing, which to her, he did. Carrying him like a mother would carry a toddler, she blurred to the infirmary, handing him to the tender care of the base medical staff. As she placed him in one of the beds in the infirmary and after the nurse had rebound his wound and began a blood transfusion, she sat in a chair next him taking out her mother's rosary from the secret pocket in her armor where she habitually kept it, and began praying for her team mates. As Belle was praying, the Castithan nurse came up and said, "We don't have enough blood of Mr. Uljanov's type to make up for his losses, and it is a rare type so there is no one on base with it. Furthermore on base, you are the only O-negative blood type, which is the universal donor, but you have some anomalies in your blood that we can't account for. Dr. Orion is in surgery with Miss Christianna, and can't be interrupted. Mr. Uljanov might be able to survive with what little we have, but I can't guarantee it because he has lost so much blood. I just don't know..." Belle nodded in understanding, her diamond blue eyes narrowed as she bit her lower lip in thought, then bent towards Volodja and asked, "I'm willing to donate my blood if you want it, but how it might affect you I don't know! It's up to you Volo!" ***** Meanwhile, in the virtual white cottage in the Great White of Belle's EGO device, Alfred watched MOM sleeping peacefully in her bed through the bars of her cell, the mask of grief long gone as he grinned while puffing on his pipe, saying more to himself than to her, "As if I would sacrifice you, my love, for your tramp of a sister, although I know you would do it in a heartbeat, you're just that sweet, if naïve! I didn't go to all that trouble to save both our beings by placing them in Belle's EGO from the devastating disease brought by the terraforming of Houston just to save a soldier, even if she is your sister. I let you give just enough that you would not be endangered, then pulled you from the experiment when you lost consciousness. It is a good thing that the Russian's EGO psyche was so strong, or both she and Sandra would have faded from existence. But if Belle thinks you dead, she will have one less impediment in her mind to accepting her destiny, and I can use her grief to separate her from the last barrier to her success, this team of do-gooders and especially the Votans on it! I was overjoyed by the serendipity of Kshaa's death, and now she had no reason to remain with them! Sleep well my love, and please keep healing. I do... miss you... and our little talks, even though you often try to talk me out of what I KNOW is right."

As Erika took command and prepared to interrogate Lena Marr, she finally felt the situation warranted her ending the lock down. She cold feel that Amber, her EGO psyche, was getting anxious about her EGO friends, so now that the danger was over, she relented to Amber's wishes to visit Dinara.
Amber appeared next Dinara on the purple bed in Atticus EGO device, holding tight to her weeping friend, stroking her soft hair, and gently kissing the top of her head, saying, "Please don't cry. Everything will be all right."
But Amber didn't really know that, but just wanted her friends anguish to end, so she said it anyway.

After several hours of surgery, Dr. Orion came over to Atticus, his surgery tunic covered in light pink blood stains, saying grimly as he removed his surgeon's bloody plastic gloves, "Let me assure you that the mother and child are fine and will live, but there were some complications in Lady's case. It certainly helped when her EGO psyche came back online to stabilize Lady, or the result would certainly have been the opposite. However, I had to remove a portion of Lady's skull plate to relieve the pressure from the swelling of the head wound. The wound was caused by piece of hard light, not bullet fragments, and it disappeared as soon as we left the room with the holo-projectors. Unfortunately the damage was done, and the swelling took place anyway. I also had to install a Prime Evolver MK III cyber rig to help in her recovery, but what the long terms effects of the head wound will be, only time will tell. I should also tell you that midway through the operation, Lady's locket began to pulsate purple again helping her EGO stabilize her vitals at a crucial stage of the operation, and yes the baby's birth progressed another month as a result. I need to get back to my patient now." With a nod of acknowledgement to Atticus, Dr. Orion left his side, leaving Atticus alone with his thoughts.

When Amber arrives and sit next to her and holds her, Dinara's crying lessens but doesn't stop. After feeling Amber's kisses on her forhead and hears her words, she snuggles closer and rests her head on Amber's soft yet firm young chest, clinging to her, and glad for the closeness.
The crying is still there though, and coming out as staggered sobs, as she says, "Hope so, but feel better in your arms. s.s.s.s.sorry I am crying like a ba...ba...baby but I just care about everyone and everything sooo much and don't wanna lose anybody! Especially not YOU!! B..b..b..but if if if lady d..dies or doesn't wa...wa...want Atty anymore, then I.. I lose everyone and everything including you!! Be...be...because now that he has love and humanity, without her love.........h...h..he will finally give into that suicidal part of him, that Kakusi keeps successfully fighting. And Atty has figured out a way to com....com........completely remove the danger that is him from the equation.....Not completely sure what, but do know, he is planning on taking a permanent walk into the quarantine zone, if...if...if he loses Lady!...........But I dont wanna lose you! I think I l...l..love YOU! I dunno, but I deserve a chance to find out and everything! Don't I?! Besides I am way too young and pretty to die yet!!!!" Dinara's staggered sobs turn back into hysterical cries after her stuttered talk, and she clings more tightly to her friend's chest, soaking it in her tears.
Meanwhile, after Doctor Orion talks to me, I just sit numbly in my caged bed. I am glad Lady survived. However it apparently isn't over yet. The cyber rig is no big deal. I have one, though it's a protytype. So that doesn't bug me. She just got a great one. The slightly larger belly from pregnancy advancing faster than normal, also not a problem. She will always be the hottest woman to exist and the fact that it is our child growing in her, just makes her that much hotter.
I love her completely and will be here for her for as long as she wants me. I will even fight for her as much as I can, But what if the brain injuries make her realize she deserves better, and no longer wants, needs, or loves me? I hope that never happens, but it is unfortunately possible.
Well I figured it out a couple days back, after something Volodja said to me. He may have been angry at the time but he was right. I can not fully control my nature any longer, when something happens to Lady. I need her and am nothing but a savage beast hiding in a man's form, without her. She completes me. Without my soulmate, I am nothing but a savage and feralbeast who must be put down, before it's too late for everyone else.
So, if she ever leaves me, then I will have Dinara access and transfer a file from my datapad to Haele, Doctor Orion and Erika. It states that in the event that I order Dinara to access this file, that she will flood my system with as much natural sleep toxins as it takes to send me into a coma. Then haele will remove Dinara and implant her in somebody more deserving of such a great EGO and sister. She doesn't deserve virtual death, because of a beast like me. Then my comatose and EGO free body is to be loaded into one of our aircraft and thrown out over the Quarentine Zone. If I don't survive the fall then even better.
If I do, then I will take a walk into the Quarantine Zone to never return. I will finally give into my feral nature. I will never leave it and will never be heard of again, unless Kabule or Kakusi manage to destroy the part that is me. Either way, that will be the end. The end of Atticus Batman, the demonic Harbinger of Death.
I just sit there and contemplate it all, while hoping Lady can recover fully, even if she doesn't want me. Besides the world would be better without me around, right? I am, afterall, just a monster from a time long ago. Now in a time he doesn't belong in. A time that needs a merciful warrior, not a ravenous destroyer.

Volodja heard through humming in his ears: "I'm willing to donate my blood if you want it, but how it might affect you I don't know! It's up to you Volo!" Decisions, decisions. Let's see - if I accept Belle's offer then consequences will be unforeseen. Future is unfolding and revealing lot of possible outcomes of that blood transfusion. And some of them might not be very promising or beneficial. But I can't be sure about that, because nothing hasn't happened yet. Everything is in potentia stage. But if I refuse, then I ll end up in six feet under and somehow that won't feel right any more. I have enough reasons to stay alive. My friends and my new family and my love interest - Sandy, I want to be with and show the world to. Not to mention my duties and obligations. And my studies. And new experiences. And my damned curiosity... "Sophie, dear. What do you think about living together with in posse mutant in future if I agree with blood transfusion?" "I am not mind, Volodja, because you never going to be a monster type of a mutant. Maybe it won't affect you at all. Since I am used to live with one of most eccentric guys in the known world anyway, few extra features won't mean a thing to me. But if you die then...I would never trade you to anyone else, Volodja, so you better stay alive as long as possible." Sophie sounded calm, but she had slight tremble in her voice. "Our decision seems to be unanimous, Sophie dear," said Volodja. "To be honest, I am really curious what might happen after that and I want to find it out."After that little democratic briefing, he turned his brown eyes to Belle's diamond blue ones and said: "I told our Alfred about great experimenters, who didn't hesitated risking their own lives and well being for the sake of knowledge. If I refuse, then I will be a really bad example, so I am willing to take any risk for the sake of that long term experiment. I am the fool after all and admire other fools, like Alfred said. But if I ever want to compare myself with them, I must act as foolishly as they did. These are my rational reasons to accept your proposal, dear Tinkerbelle. As for sentimental reasons, I must say that I have a gut feeling that if I am not around, you all would be devastated. My foolish pride is speaking right now, but you probably forgive me that exaggeration anyway, because I seem to be in my death bed at moment. Judges in lab coats are already condemned me. But if I will be gone, who else makes your lives to be more interesting with his crazy ideas and irrational behaviour? You need a wild card in your deck." Volodja grinned to Belle. "I am ready when you are and I really want to know what happens afterwards."

"If you wont start to cooperate, I am forced to release you," said Marcel patiently: "Your choice, mon ami. Personal freedom is considered to be one of the most important human rights, isn't it? I will let you go now and grant your freedom."
"Don't, please don't," replied scared ark hunter. "I will explain everything to you. I don't want to be a free man." He told the truth, because in this particular moment, letting him free would have meant long fall for him, because his conversation with Marcel occurred in top of the remains of the skyscraper in San Francisco area. Marcel had chased him upstairs and now his only way to leave, was heading down again. At moment that meant either using stairs or having one way ride through air, because Marcel hold of him was only thing to prevent him from falling down.
"Mr. Soleptor does not need your explanations. He wants his money back with interests and fee for my trouble finding you. We can put aside that topic, why you didn't paid him back what you owed, right away. Mr. Soleptor and I would like to ask: "When are you going to pay?" instead. We don't care how you collect that scrip. It's your business, as long as we care. But since you are unable to satisfy our curiosity about deadlines, we will appoint the time now - day after tomorrow. And if you don't pay, I won't be as patient with you, as I am today. And it was your decision to give up your freedom, so now we have every right to decide everything for you." Marcel smiled, when he pulled ark hunter back to the solid ground, but his smile was not a kind one.

Belle Starr smiled warmly watching Volodja Uljanev sitting in the bed next to her during the blood transfusion, then conversed in an attempt to reassure him, "Y'all know, nothing other than what is intended in the blood transfusion might happen! Sure, I have some dormant parasitic nanites that evolved from my sister's blood, and that made me and everybody they infected into paranoid killers in South America, but an EMP turned those little critters off! Sure, my Volge genes may be carried in my blood cells, although I'm not sure if that is even possible or not. I don't know what other weird stuff my Daddy may have done when he was playing mad scientist when I was in the womb because he won't discuss it with me - just says, 'Wait and see!' I don't think the Mistress of Judgment did anything to me when I was unconscious and her captive, but I'm not 100% certain of that! Also, Alfred assures me that the vestiges of the nanites from Lena's injections are gone, but then... he couldn't detect them at first at all, so who knows, right?"
Belle bit her lower lip as she turned away from Volodja and stared with wide unblinking blue eyes at the ceiling of the infirmary, saying worriedly, "That's a heck of a lot of nanites and other stuff in my blood! Guess I should have mentioned all this before we started the transfusion, huh? Sorry about that!"
Belle looked back at Volodja hoping he wouldn't hate her for not warning him before the blood transfusion, but his eyes were closed and he appeared to be fast asleep, as Belle muttered more to herself than to him, "I sure as shooting hope the cure isn't worse than the ailment!"

Volodja fell asleep during blood transfusion. Comfortable bed, great company of Belle, and no need to rush up and save the world -everything made him sleepy and he accepted possible consequences when he accepted Belle's generous proposal. If anything goes wrong, he will have enough time to worry then, but he was not going to be panicky in advance. And while he slept silently, he afforded himself luxury having a dream...
...Shadow wandered around in the streets of a huge city, full of life, slipping from one dark place to another, avoiding any form of the light. Shadow wanted to get out and find a dark and lonely place to gain strength and power and when it's ready, then this city will belongs to to the Shadow. But for that it must find a hideout outside city walls. There was a silhouette of a castle in horizon. Perfect for the Shadow and it's ambitions. A retreat to make plans and prepare itself. The Shadow took a form of the dragon and begin it's silent flight to the castle.
Only obstacle between the Shadow and the castle was a helm less knight in worn armour, who rose his palm above his eyes and watched approaching dragon calmly. Something forced dragon land in front of the knight and asked: "Who are you, little man?"
"I am the Guardian."
"Do you really think that you can keep me away from here? Look how small and insignificant you are."
Guardian's handsome face remained emotionless when he looked the dragon with his serious and yet so cheerful and clever brown eyes and said calmly: "I am not here to keep anybody out. I am here to keep all shadows inside those castle walls. You may enter, although it means that you will remain inside of those walls forever. Nobody won't get our from the castle after entering. I am always awake and I am always on guard. You have two choices - you either enter or leave this place forever. I won't allow you to stay loitering much longer, so you must decide what are you going to do. The door is open. Enter or be gone!"
The Shadow felt the power, coming from the Guardian. Size didn't matter, strength didn't matter. Only thing that mattered was that the Shadow bowed to the Guardian, saying: "I will decide, but before doing that, I would like to to pay my respect to you."...
...Volodja opened his eyes again. That was a really weird dream, but it was over now. He was back in his hospital bed and Belle was still beside him, sharing her blood with Volodja, to keep him alive. Volodja looked red liquid inside the tube, connecting them, then he stared intensively into Belle's eyes and said: "Thank you Tinkerbelle, but you better watch out before I get too bloodthirsty. I don't want to suck you dry." Volodja grinned to Belle, still feeling sleepy, but much stronger already and added with Hungarian accent: "Listen to them. Children of the night. What music they make."

Sandy was tired but still busy healing Lady, stitching the pieces of her skull back together where Dr. Orion had taken out a section to ease the brain swelling then put it back. She really wanted to see Volodja, but she kept in contact with with Sophie, his EGO psyche, and Sophie assured Sandy that she would tell Sandy if there was a change for the worse. Sophie told her of Volodja's blood transfusion from Belle, and that worried Sandy but the alternative of Volodja dead from blood loss was a lot worse, so Sandy kept at her work, her mind on the job but her heart with Volodja. Meanwhile, Lady's pink eyes flickered open, and the attending nurse called Dr. Orion over, and he hurried over, saying cheerfully, "Lady, how are you doing? I wasn't expecting you to awaken so soon, but please sit back! Don't want to tear open any wounds now, do we?" "Who?" Asked Lady, blinking her large pink eyes several times. ***** Varus sent his large body guard to Marcel Lestrange's table at The Crater, asking him to join Varus and a hooded man sitting with him. Marcel had been watching them converse for almost an hour. Varus had been very animated in the discussion, but than he often was, while the hooded man remained calm and collected. Marcel joined the two without comment, waiting for the inevitable introductions, but instead got a job offer. Varus began, "This gentleman has a job that fits you unique qualifications - " The hooded man held up a chalk white hand and Varus stopped talking, unusual in itself. Marcel couldn't see the man's face, perhaps because of some light damper built into the hood, but listened intently as the man made his pitch, "I need someone killed who is in a heavily fortified complex, and it must be soon while the inhabitants of the complex are in disarray. One million script is the bounty, but we must have suitable proof that she is dead." The hooded man pushed a dossier that contained intelligence on the target, a photo and a map towards Marcel, who immediately recognized the location on the map as that where Volodja and his compatriots were located. The picture was of a young skinny Castithan girl with large pink eyes and an enigmatic smile, with the name "Lady Christianna" written at the bottom of the photo.

Marcel considered that offer. A million scrip for that kind of task. But he had his standards - he never killed women or children before and that young girl was both of them. But...it was flattering after all. He already made himself a certain name and reputation with such a short time. They offered him real challenge - infiltrating into heavily guarded fortress and kill a girl. Or not so heavily guarded fortress, as Marcel remembered. That would make his job even easier. But his conscious tried to stop him to become murderer, instead of cold blooded killer, he already was, but as always, his consciousness used different kind of tactics, than normal ones do and instead of making him saying no or starting a lecture about moral and ethics, made him to ask: "Getting rid of that girl seems to be really important to you, mon ami. How much is she REALLY worth to you?"
He kept his face in shadows too, so nobody could read anything from it. If his Castithan employer (at least that chalk white hand seemed to tell it) wants to be discreet, then Marcel has every right for some privacy too. And he wanted to know, what else that hooded man had to say and how far he will go with his offer. Being faceless makes haggling easier than trying to do a poker face.

Amber tried to console the inconsolable. No matter what she tried, what she said, Dinara would not stop crying, and now Mother was ready to do her interrogation of the traitor Lena Marr, and wanted her EGO psyche on the job, but Amber did not want to leave Dinara in such state, or at all really.
Amber took Dinara's chin in one strong hand, gently raising it so that they could see eye-to-eye, then stared intently into Dinara's eyes with her large jade ones, saying with conviction, "I'm not sure what love is, but if it the desire to be with you every moment of every day and the aching feeling in every fiber of my being when I am not with you... If it is the fact that the image of your beautiful face and the memories of our time are in the back of mind always no matter what I must do... then yes, I love you too! But I must now do my duty to mother, but I will be back as soon as I can, and my heart will ache for you until then!"
With that said, Amber kissed Dinara long and passionately, then disappeared back to Erika Widowmaker's head.

The hooded man sitting across from Marcel Lestrange leaned forward, still not affording Marcel any opportunity to see is face as he fairly spat out venomously, "Do not let her innocent looking face fool you! She is not only a danger to those I represent, but to the world. If you are afraid of retribution by those villains who accompany her, I am prepared to offer you the deed to an estate in Lima as well as safe transport there. As to your fee, how does two million script sound to you, and a corporate espionage box? If that is not enough, what is? There are other more willing assassins in the Bay Area who will take the job, and for less, but none with your reputation overseas." Marcel sat contemplating the offer.
