Volodja gasped some air, when he saw Belle rushing towards the statue of Chase Loneheart. He didn't even had time to thank her for saving his life. One moment he was pounding Inquisitors head to the ground, when he heard Sophie's warning, but he could not react, so he was sure that he will die before the right time. Next thing he felt, was Belle's firm hand pulling him up from the ground. Belle looked so beautiful standing there, sword in her hand like a real goddess of rightful wars. But Volodja could enjoy the sight only for a second before she run away.
Volodja had to run too, because mind controlled locals with their makeshift weapons became way too close to his air gasping person. That meant only one thing - he had to run for his life, because he didn't want to kill any of them, but after his narrow escape from death, thanks to Belle he didn't wanted to get killed either. He promised to die with Belle, so he avoided their first hits, turned around and run to others. Locals followed him. Volodja was significantly faster and left them behind soon. Reaching to the rest of team, he shouted: "Locals are coming, so let's get out of here and fast Looking at his friends and seeing how Belle, Erika, Taffer and Vo were gathered into one group, while Atticus stood near main entrance, he understood that his place will be by his side. They were partners once more. So he stepped to him and said: "You and me again. You know, that it might become to a habit."
Next thing to do was to send EGO message to Belle: "Tinkerbelle. Thank you for saving me there. I...I really care about you and I am glad that you are with us. You are great friend and even more to me. Please, change your mind. I lo... I need you." It was all, he could do. He will be not there to stop her. And everything is his fault...

Belle said stoically to Taffer, "Wherever you want me to go, whatever you want me to do, whenever you want me to do it, I'll do it."
"As if I ever doubted", Taffer smiled and quickly gave orders to the team, watching the crowd closing in. "Atticus and Volo, get to the elevator from the front door. Don't forget to lock the door behind you. Everyone else to the trap door. Belle, you go first. You know the place and have enhanced senses so lead the way. Same for you Vo. Follow Belle closely and watch her back. Raizar and Erika, you're the main firepower, so watch for each other and kill everything that gets in the way. Raizar, you'll definitely get your bonus, just make sure there's someone to receive it. I'll be the rear guard."
As the team moved to the entrances, Taffer cloaked and the next moment he appeared in the center of the crowd with the flash grenade in his hand. "Harlem shake time!" He shouted, dropping the grenade and rolling aside as all people in the radius started shaking in an electric shock. He tossed one more grenade and another to the other group he noticed, winning some precious seconds for the team to enter the Monument. Once he noticed the entrance door locked again he jumped into the hatch and closed the trapdoor, locking id behind him.

"Let's go Giant," said Volodja "We must get our girls back alive and well and don't do anything stupid, unless...unless I do it first."
He took long glance at Belle. So lovely, so smart, so kind and caring. Really beautiful human being, who needed to live, not to die. He smiled sadly to her and waved his hand. Perhaps he never will meet somebody like her any more. World will be much emptier and darker place without her around. He can't stop her and he can't tell others about her intentions. She trusted her secret to him. Everything is Volodja's fault. He grabbed his shotgun and stepped into darkness, ready to face any danger, he meets there.

Belle's emotionless words were as an ice-cold shower to Vo. He looked at Belle with wide open eyes wondering what happened to her since the last moment he saw her all-smiles. He remembered she had exchanged strange glances with Volodja and had a little bickering with Raizar but did not give it a rush before thinking those minor tensions won't affect Belle too much. There could be something more to it but the problem was they didn't have much time to settle it at the moment. He reached a trap door in a long jump, helping Belle enter but surely knowing she doesn't need it being in a good shape. He just used that moment to look into her eyes and say quickly, "I don't know what it is, but remember I'm always on your side and I want you to be happy first and foremost. But now we must fight our way for all these people and for Lady and be very attentive because we still don't know what's ahead. Once it's over, we can talk about anything. But whatever happens, remember I love you."
When Belle entered the trapdoor, he quickly followed, straining his enhanced senses to detect any danger that they may face below.

Belle looked sadly at Vo with teary blue eyes as he helped her down, saying before she descended into the dark, "Never forget I loved you too, no matter what happens today! Never forget that I always wanted you to be happy"
Belle Starr climbed down into the dark hole, she adjusted her sight to night vision and headed downwards. She noticed the rungs of the ladder were covered with a thick layer of dust, and once she heard the click of the door being locked above her, she used a forefinger to clean a rung and held it above her head for Vo to see, then continued downwards. Always looking for booby-traps on the way down, she found none, and the VBI surveillance cameras in the narrow tunnel down appeared to be turned off. Once the tunnel down opened into the elevator shaft, she had to pull her blond head in and hunker down as the elevator went screaming past her at a high rate of speed. She silently prayed for Atticus and Volodja, waiting for the inevitable sounds of a crash when it hit the bottom, but it never came.
As Atticus and Volodja pushed the button down to the floor they wanted to go to, the elevator doors closed and then the elevator went into free fall straight to the third floor at the bottom of the elevator shaft, but stopped short of crashing, suddenly knocking both of them off their feet with a jerk. Before they could even get to their feet, the elevator door open and a torrent of salty water rushed into the elevator washing them out into a dark and large area. They could no longer see the elevator door as they dog paddled in the warm water, so believed they were in an area that was quite deep, and if Atticus stretched his long arms he could touch the ceiling of a room that was about the size of a football field. As their eyes adjusted to the darkness, they could feel the ripples of something swimming below them. What Atticus and Volodja didn't know was that several shark-gators, each over ten feet in length were slowly circling them both.

Everything went smoothly in beginning. Elevator worked and they begun to descend until something went very wrong and their carrier suddenly started to stutter. After short shaking session it fell down at relatively high speed. Volodja had that strange feeling under his heart, which appears usually during free fall. He didn't liked this part of their ride at all, because if they hit the bottom at high speed, their ride will be over and so will be their mission. Maybe strongly built Giant survives, but Volodja's odds of staying alive were really low.
Their rush downwards was interrupted with sudden crash and splash, when elevator performed a water landing, knocking Atticus and Volodja off their feet. Doors were forced to open and mighty tide of salty water carried them out from elevator and left them floating in a huge dark room, full of water. At least water was warm. They started to swim, hoping that they will find dry land soon enough. An island would be nice. A raft would be dream come true. Something solid to help them hold on would be great. A way out from this huge underground swimming pool was more than welcomed. But there wasn't any "EXIT" signs blinking or coast guard approaching, so Atticus and Volodja needed a lot of luck to get out. And lot of swimming too.
"Giant," whispered Volodja moving his limbs slowly in warm and stinky water "I have a feeling that we are not alone." His suspicions were confirmed when he felt something touching his leg and swimming away again. "Lets get closer to the wall. If we meet some aggressive representatives of local fauna, then I would really like to have a sure grip on something solid and use my other hand to hold a gun."
They had more luck than they could hope, because both of them reached to the wall in one piece. Volodja studied wall with his hands and through his night vision goggles. Well, well. There were some cables and pipes, they can use for climbing up and moving forward along the wall, unless Giant decides to take long healthy swim among some local life forms. Speaking of the Devil...Several triangle shaped fins appeared on surface of water and started to approach them with high speed.
"Call me Ishmael, if they are not a damn shark-gators," thought Volodja and yelled: "Get out from water, Giant!" and following his own suggestion swung his body up and down on water, made quick jump upward, grabbed a pipe with both hands, pulled himself up, supported his legs against the wall and grabbed his shottie into one hand. First shark-gator to jump out from water, got Volodja's gun barrel into it's mouth. Shark-gator's jaws closed around it, but Volodja pulled the trigger and sent some hot metal into beast's brain, killing it instantly.

"Nice talking Taff." Raizar nodded. "Um, well, seems everything's settled now. Lead the way, partner! And you, youngling, try not to obscure my sight with your pretty mohawk. I mean, to obscure too much. I'm ready whenever you are, mates." He waited his turn to climb down and followed Belle and others.
As the elevator screamed down the shaft Raizar muttered: "Quite a long way down, huh. And pretty fast. But I wonder why everything is so dead and dusty here, all this cameras and all that. Shouldn't they meet us with light and fanfares? Strange thing indeed. Not sure if I like it, hmm."

"I don't like it either", whispered Taffer. He was following the team members relying mostly on sound of their footsteps, his EGO scanning the area behind him. "I'm checking Volodya's and Atticus's conditions, they are okay. Our next stop is Belle's office. Let's see if we can find out what happened here. Raizar and Erika, once we confirm the room is clear, stay on guard outside its door. I don't want us to be ambushed from behind or locked inside the room".
"Dash", he said mentally to his EGO, "When we get into the office, scan the network to see if we can access the transmitters of this mind-control thing. Once you get the signal, try to decode it or at least calculate the frequencies to jam it. The sooner we block the mind control, the better".

Belle leaned over grabbing the dangling elevator cable, checking to see if it would hold her. She wrapped it around her leg then swung as graceful as one of the rope dancers in the Circus du Soleil; swinging six feet to the side of the elevator door grabbing a hidden handhold. She then hung upside down where a second hidden handhold let her hold on to the wall as she opened a secret compartment to an access pad. Belle frowned as she typed in "B-S-1-2-3-4," muttering "I was going to change it!" A small hidden crawl door slid open above the access pad at the floor level of her office which she then crawled into.
Belle popped her blond head back out the secret door and with a smile on her freckled face, saying, "If you don't want to enter like me, then look carefully and you will see hidden hand and foot holds from the ladder to this door!", then her tousled head disappeared back inside and then all her team mates heard was her melodic giggle.
Belle stood up, seeing that office was just like she had set it up months ago, right down to the antique baseball on a stand on her mahogany desk. It was just as dark and dusty as it was in the elevator shaft, so Belle lit up her charge blade to give the others some light in entering from the elevator shaft, making the room glow with an orange light.
Then MOM said as if surprised, "Belle! The mind control wave just stopped as soon as you lit up your sword!"

Erika Widowmaker was the last to climb into Belle's office from the elevator shaft, carefully using the hand and foot holds indicated by Belle. She thought Belle was often more dramatic than a situation demanded, but admired her sense of style and grace. Erika often thought Belle was more a force of nature than a warrior like Erika was, and in another, more civilized time, she would be protected as an artistic asset of the civilization that produced her. But these were not civilized times, so Belle was protecting innocents herself instead of entertaining them, more's the pity thought Erika. Erika dismissed such thoughts and like a good warrior, she focused her mind on the mission at hand instead of pondering what ifs, waiting for Taffer's next order.

As I climb up behind Volodja I say, "Shark Gators, fun. Too bad I don't have the time to really enjoy it or harvest supplies from them, but Lady ALWAYS comes first. Then Belle, something is bugging that girl." I then reach out and grab a smaller shark gator as it jumps at us. "Volodja, if you will." It doesn't take long to realize what I mean. He quickly aims his shotty and blasts the creature and I let it go. Just a couple of seconds later, I am pulled by the foot into the water. Good thing my suit's internal breather was activated when I first entered the building. I go under and wrestle with the creature. After a few minutes of fighting it, I manage to extend one of my hidden gauntlet blades and slice it's head partially off. I resurface and quickl climb back onto the cables by Volodja. Then I stop. Volodja looks at me. "I have an idea. Hold on tight. I hope your suit is electrically non-conductive." I manage to get off a gauntlet and secure it to my armor. Then I reach down and focus my energies, as I start to put my hand just against the water. A huge bull shark gator's head comes out of the water there (possibly the alpha given his huge size), so I touch his snout instead, knowing Volodja must think I must have already lost it.
The room is filled with an electric blue glow as I send electricity through the shark gator. It floats to the surface, electrecuted to death. I then reach into it's mouth and yank out several teeth and pocket them. Next I put my gauntlet back on and make sure my armor is once again airtight, as I talk to Volodja. "Volodja if we have the time after all is done, and this place isn't destroyed, remind me to come back for it's claws and more teeth. Now we must get out of here. Let's try that door, but be careful, the water or something else down here is interfering with my ability to sense other's electrical energies, so I can't tell if I fried them all or not, but doubtful anyway since most of my charge went into that giant."
We open a door that leads toa staircase, but the stairs appear to have been blown up. "Nice, they really don't want us out. There's a broken step. I will lift you. Try to see if you can grab it, then pull me up." I lift Volodja then he pulls me up to it. "Looks like a long climb on what's left of the stairs. Guess we cling to the wall and carefully climb out of this hunting pond, before more shark gators try to make us lunch."

Pulling Giant was not an easy task. Big guy was REALLY heavy, but Volodja had enough strength in his not so well trained body and no way, he will let him fall. Especially after such a battle they had together few moments ago. Never leave team mates behind and Atticus was not an ordinary team mate any more. Volodja cared about the guy and although he was younger than Giant, he saw him as his younger brother, who still has much to learn.
Volodja's mind was older than he ever wished to be. Kids grow up fast when times are tough. And that happened with Volodja too. His childhood and youth passed in chaotic Europe, where different views and visions clashed in most weird and violent way and he was really premature kid anyway. Too many books, too much knowledge, too much....everything. It adds a lot to ones age, but even Volodja had lot to learn about life and world yet. Getting knowledge is like running towards a horizon - you never reach your destination. You move forward, but once you are there, you will discover that horizon is further away. But you will try to reach there over and over again, because you have found yourself a purpose, no matter crazy it seems, and you will gain lot of useful during your endless chase. But you can stumble and fall and hurt yourself pretty bad during that chase. That also happened to Volodja and too many times already. But unlike Giant, who didn't had much choices, Volodja was able to choose his own path, no matter how hard and painful it was.
He remembered Giant's words, said down in shark pool, when they both were busy shooting, cutting and electrocuting shark-gators. Something was wrong with Belle. Volodja KNEW what was wrong and he could not stop her. And he could not be with his friend and.......Better not say it out loud! It will ruin everything. And since she entrusted her secret to him, he could not tell about either. It made Volodja really feel sad.
But he covered his sadness with a smile and said to Atticus: "We make pretty good battle duo, Giant. I never thought that I will say it to you." Their moment of male bonding was interrupted by screeching sound of tired metal and stairs fell slightly downward.
"Stairs won't hold on much longer. We are too heavy for this cheap piece of shtako," said Volodja and moved very carefully upward. He made to the solid ground, Atticus closely behind him, when stairs finally gave up the fight, broke lose and fell down. Volodja grabbed Atticus's giant hand and fell backwards, pulling heavy body of the Giant with him to avoid big guy falling down with stairs. Using his body as counterweight to stop fall of the mighty Giant made Volodja to land on his back, but Giant remained to his feet. He just staggered a bit, but maintained his balance.
"Sorry about that, Giant," said Volodja calmly, still on his back "I have lost a lot of things and people during hard times and I am sure that I will lose someone very special to me soon, so I can't afford losing you too. Just don't ask anything, please. I already failed as a knight-errand and I don't want to fail as a preacher too."

Raizar looked into the shaft where first three teammates disappeared. "Hey, do you still want me to guard outside? There is no door to guard but I can stay here and watch the shaft and surroundings, just in case. By the look of this place I'd say it'll be a dull watch but it's better stay this way. I really prefer to watch old harmless dust than new enemies." And he stopped near the shaft nursing his gun and looking at Taffer through the glasses of his rebreather.

Raizar, two of us can't possibly guard the secret door as it is too small, and I do believe he means the door out of the office and into the reception area, so I'll recon it and guard it," Said Erika, as she barely opened the door into the open area, peeking through the crack.
The reception area was as abandoned and dusty as Belle's office, although it was obvious that the dust had been disturbed from the elevator door out of the reception area and away from Belle's office, so Erika asked Belle, "What is beyond your office and the reception desk, Belle?"
"More offices," Answered Belle, then added, "Oh... and the staircase down to the second floor, and then further down to the third floor as well!"

"Nice thinking Erika." Raizar said. "It was dumb for me to think there is only one entrance, this secret one. Guess you are right. Seems no one knows about this secret door so if Belle lock it up again we hardly could expect an attack from here. Guess I could join you outside that main door."
