I know a lot of fans have been disjointed from one another since both the show went off the air and the game eventually closed down a few years later. So, I figured I’d share what I know for those who aren’t aware.
Not much known about anything with show related stuff. Most of the fandom feels like it’s in individual groups. However, after the game’s closure, many fans have unlocked the WAD files to attempt o do mods for other games using the in-game items. One user named Killer Krayola did a Payday 2 mod where he imported one of the game’s SMGs and created a mod that recreated the different types of ammo (fire, electricity, radioactive, etc).
Another user, who I ran into through the Defiance subreddit that still exists, has started work on an attempt to bring the game called called Project: Defiance. Basically, he’s trying to use the game’s assets and rebuild the game using Unity. Most recently, he has gotten the in-game world’s map (the physical areas where the players play). So, he’s one step closer at remaking the game to allow for people to play in the world again. Here’s a link to the subreddit post: www.reddit.com/r/Defiance/comments/vuxh7t/project_defiance/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
Another user I know named Michael has been trying to get assets imported into another game called XCOM 2. His plan is to recreate the Arkhunter characters of his and his friends for the game. So far, he has managed to find someone to import the voices of the playable Arkhunter characters into the game and it is available through the Steam Workshop for the game on Steam.

I came across a video of another user who has made a Defiance-related map for Doom. I have to admit, it’s impressive to me.
Another user I know named KNNDefi was working on importing the map of the game world, basically the entire in-world land, into Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. He did a couple of videos on it, but unfortunately, the project has stopped (this was one I was really hoping would continue). What stopped it was mostly technical issues that were caused by errors that were in the making of the MMO. Here’s a video from his YouTube channel that shows some of what he had been able to do.
As for me, I started trying to gather as much info, pictures, videos and even the game files for storage on a hard drive. Essentially, it’s an archive for all things Defiance. I am planning on using the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine to copy the info from the discontinued Defiance Wiki that was online when the show was on. I’ve considered on doing a Defiance tribute in the game Second Life, where basically it would be a one time thing for Second Life’s Sci-Fi Convention, basically covering Defiance, it’s creators, it’s lore and it’s eventual cancellation (show) and closure (game), using the in-game assets to do so. I managed to import the Challenger roller into SL, but due to the type of texture setup that Trion used for it, getting it to have the Hemi Orange color that was my roller isn’t possible due to SL not having the same type of setup (essentially, they designed it where they would allow the texture to have any color assigned to it without having to generate unique textures for each color. The Durango in the game is also the same way (I learned this when I noticed that the exclusive black with painted flame color and the show exclusive Indogene orange color, the one that was unlocked with the code from the premiere episode of the second season were unique ones made for the same model).
Looking over the models in the WAD files is awesome. I came across the original model they had planned on using for the Golden Gate Bridge before they revised it to the version we know in the game. It’s the original version seen in the teaser video and original concept images, which so happens to be the same version that was accidentally used in Season 2’s episode “Painted from Memory” when Kenya arrives in the Bay.
I have considered on starting a Defiance Archive website, but I don’t know if there’d be anyone who would be up for that. I have been collecting some real world items that are Defiance related, including the Cafe Defiance menu that was used for a pop-up restaurant used to promote the second season of the show. I have wanted to do a machinima comic book fan fiction series for Defiance, maybe even remaking a bulk of the stories here or even just filling in the gap of the story between Chase Lonehart and his group’s last appearance here at the final story I created , “The End of the Road.” But I’m not sure if I’m up to that task, let alone the lack of Defiance related items for other games. I am hoping that someday, Defiance may come back in some form and that we are not left hanging for years without as much Defiance. Surprisingly, it feels like what Farscape fans have gone through over the years (still waiting for some new live action Farscape project, getting a comic book series to fill in the time). I’ve even considered doing a couple of prop replicas of in-game items as well as some from the show, or at least a couple of custom action figures in 3.75 inch scale.
I’m sure there are those who are visiting that may want to provide any info for any refugee groups for Defiance fans or Defiance related projects. If you want, post them in the Shoutbox, I’ll have a look at them and then add the links here to this post.
Until the Arks rise again, stay defiant to the end. DEFIANCE!
