Alright, story-wise it is the exact same game in every way.
Changes I noticed:
- Castithans are playable from the start
- The starting classes were altered to have actual specialties.
- EGO system was re-worked and tied to the different classes
- Each class had access to 1 EO power and could unlock it's perks as they level
- The perks were altered or downright changed.
- Stims were made into EGO perks. *
- It looks like you will be able to unlock all the different classes for your character and assign them in your loadout (but I could be wrong since only one class was available in the Beta.)
- The pyro grenades got a name-change to Thermal grenade.
- Weapons have a power level that currently appears to be separate from your EGO level
- Weapons also have 10 upgrade levels
- There is now salvage for every type of weapon
- That salvage will be used to upgrade your weapons
- Upon upgrading the weapon you will get points to spend on one of 3 of the weapon's base stats
- You will also get a blue salvage piece that will be used to be allowed to re-roll one of your weapon's bonus rolls. Once re-rolled it becomes locked so it will be the only bonus roll you will be able to alter on that weapon from now on
- Shields currently can't be upgraded/re-rolled
*Only the assault class is available in beta. The assault class is assigned the BLUR power. Health stims are a BLUR perk.
P.S. Rumor has it that charge-blades will be removed from the available weapons and instead be delegated as a EGO perk. However I have no verification on that specific rumor yet. Although I would be against it.

From what I've read, there also are no new areas to explore. So far, it looks like they nerfed the flexibility of character evolution that drew me to the game in the first place. So far, I don't see anything to draw me back to Defiance the game. - Belle Starr

Alright incendiary grenades still exist. I got one. The thermal grenade is something else. Nobody actually knows about new areas as the Beta doesn't let us go past Madera. They made the different nanos into an actual ammo type and gave them their own weapon mod slot. In the beta I was able to use Gulanite to remove my mods without destroying them or the gun. So the weapons have more flexibility. They gave us strategic reasons to switch shields due to the way they were reworked, by adding 3 capacitor categories to shields.
Shield capacitor-type shields work just as we are used to and the bonus shield stats still exist on shields, such as faster health regen or shield regen and such.
Armor capacitor shields give you armor instead of shields. Health capacitor-types, don't give you shields or armor but instead give you a lot more health and the help menu says they also give some damage reduction.
There are several new grenade types that I saw such as the thermal grenade and a warp grenade. They also brought back the infinite grenade but the assault class has a perk that decreases grenades cooldown period. Again not sure about all the classes or powers as the Beta gave us very limited access.
However I would not go strictly based on what I have posted because Xbox's beta access was strictly this weekend and I just got in yesterday. So I only had 1 and a half days of access. However I was enjoying playing the game again after being away for so long.
