Background:
Atika and her twin brother Attila grew up in Mongolia raised by nomads; calling the tribal leader and his wife, Papa and Mama Khan. When they were 12, she was attacked by a feral Dholebear (a Dhole and Gobi bear mutation). Attila came to her aid and hit the creature with a bat to get it away from her. The beast turned it's attention to Attila and leapt at him. It scratched Attila's face leaving 3 scars on each of his cheeks. While he was wrestling with the beast, Atika managed to crawl to the lumber pile near their yurt and get the axe. She struggled with it, but managed to get back to her brother quickly. Attila was able to push the creature off of him just as Atika got back with the axe. Rushing to help her brother and hero, Atika lifted the axe above her head and brought it down hard, getting lucky and decapitating the beast with the first axe fall. After they recovered from that moment and Atika treated her brother's wounds, she and Attila went back to that beast and skinned and dressed it and turned the former predator into food for them.
Attila tanned the hide and turned it into a fur blanket for his sister. Atika took the meat and made her brother a big meal as a thank you, as well as donating some of their meat to the community stew, as everyone in that tribe was to chip help in any way that they could, and Atika was very proud that the two of them could finally bring meat to the tribe as their donation instead of just the usual nuts berries and flowers and other little stuff that she could get her hands on, or the tool and yurt repair work that Attila did for the tribe. Since then Atika has trained to be able to better defend herself so she doesn't lose her brother and best friend.
In her free time, she reads all that she can about her Hero and idol, Belle Starr. That woman really kicks butt. She also always seems to look good doing so, at least according to Atika's darn brother! Boys can be such pests, but she would never give up her brother for anything. After all he means the world to her. Or in her words, "I've gotta love him, because he's all I've got! Besides who else would love HIM?!"
As told to Erika WidowMaker by Atika in 'No Man is an island':
the Tribal Leader who we always knew as Papa Khan, although he always preferred we say it in Mongolian. So it would be Aав нь Хан (pronounced Aav ni Khan); who with his wife's insistence that childrenless parents need children just as much as parentless children needed parents, took us as their own when we were tiny and our parents had died, mother shortly after birthing us and father a little later from a combination of heartbreak and wound-rot from a wound he got before he and mother were taken in by the tribe who found them wounded in the wilds, according to what Mama Khan or ээж Хан (pronounced Eej Khan), told us when she thought we were old enough to know the truth.
