"I would laugh at the sight of Brody, but I sense deep tragedy behind his ridiculous costume," said Volodja with sadness in his brown eyes. "Lady is a dreamer and she wants best for everybody and she seems to have an idea what might be the best for everybody. Unfortunately she forgot to ask from the people, do they want to live in Utopia at all. You can't change whole world with one simple plan. Believe me - people have tried....and people have died because of that. We must try to stop them before more people get hurt. And we need make Lady to listen the reason. Whoever is behind this...whoever uses that poor delusional teenager who wants to change the world better and become someone, just gave me another reason to take everything personally." Volodja looked once more through the binoculars and said: "I am afraid that we have to team up with Lena and Marcel. Our race is over and we found that X which marks the spot. It's a mad, mad, mad, mad world indeed and we need everyone's help to stop Lady's plan. That's why we need to gain access to the bunker. Atticus might arrive at any minute and if he feels left out, then our world won't be just a mad place but a dangerously mad place so we need to get that door open and we need to know what are those dangers Brody was telling about." Then he looked at Sandy and said: "I am not superstitious and that's why I don't ask you to kiss me for luck. I just want to kiss you, my girl." And that's was exactly what Volodja did. He took her adorable face gently between his palms, kissed her passionately for a long time, feeling touch and taste of her lips and enjoying every moment of it. With a regret he let her lips go and connected with Marcel. "Marcel. I offer you a truce for awhile because you want to enter and we NEED to enter. I think that we have a key for that door. So what do you think about the idea to bury a hatchet temporarily?" "Why should we listen to you, lover boy? Just pass me the key and we are even." "You know Marcel, that I would not let you walk into the trap or leave you to die trying it. They already saw you, so you better leave and then join us. And when Atticus arrives, we have to warn them and smuggle all ourselves in under cover. We have a chance to do that. She said that no deliveries, but we have something, Lady might be interested in. À prendre ou à laisser, Marcel (Take it or leave it, Marcel)." "Volodja does not lie about not leaving me to die," said Marcel to Lena. "He is way too noble to do that. So what do we do, my love? Should we listen what lover boy has to offer? We can use them to get in and sell them out afterwards."

Post by Taffer on Sept 6, 2015 17:43:06 GMT
After having the escape routes successfully programmed for Lexy, Taffer went to the War Room and sat at his desk. He has now four teams in action to monitor. First Belle and Atticus on their way to Presidio, second Sandy and Volodja who already arrived there, Third was Chase and Lu somewhere around Edmonton and predictably keeping radio silence now and finally Vo and Kaj protecting children at Atticus's home. Everyone was doing their job fine, so the only thing he has to do was monitoring their progress, and then coordinating and sending help if needed. He contacted Dr. Orion by his hailer to check up on Vo's conditions and was satisfied to hear he's doing well.
"Hope Kaj and Vo won't be fighting over who would drive the Titan", he thought with a smile, then suddenly a thought hit his head — it was his truck which received Erica's "message in a bottle", and there definitely could be more to come, but now it was standing in a shielded garage. Taffer quickly turned to his computer and initiated a search through the Network for any other messages signed by Erika's EGO signature. Once he got them, he contacted the teams which were going to the Presidio.
"I have received two more messages from Erika for you. First — "Precidio trapped!" and second, "Lady's making her move soon", so be careful but not hand out there for too long. I still have the Gargoyle chopper fueled and ready so if any help needed with people, supplies and evacuation, I can deliver them."
He also called Haele by her hailer and asked her to be ready to move as well as her help could be needed at any minute.

Lena Marr hated Volodja Uljanov. Maybe hate was too personal a term to use with someone as selfish as Lena, but she definitely wanted him eliminated. In Lena's mind, Marcel obsessed too much over Volodja, and when he was thinking about Volodja, he couldn't be thinking about HER, so she couldn't have that! Furthermore, by Marcel always comparing himself and measuring his worth against Volodja, Lena felt Marcel was holding himself back from being as successful a criminal mastermind as she knew he could be, and limiting Marcel's success limited HER success, so again - Lena couldn't have that!
"Yes, my love," Lena smile wickedly as she communicated from her EGO to Marcel's EGO, "Let's use them and abuse them! Let them get us in, then sell them to the Inquisition!" Then she thought only to herself, "And if Volodja has a little fatal accident along the way - well, boo hoo!"
Pride was in the control booth of Lena's EGO device, reaching out to high five with Envy.

"Sold to the highest bidder," grinned Marcel as he was in auction. "One Court jester and one Court...I believe they can have some use for the soldier girl as well. There is not enough Cinderellas in these days."
Lena and Marcel retreated but only to join Sandy and Volodja at their position. To be honest - inner climate was really cool and it showed outside as well. They did not changed compliments and warm hugs at all. Quite opposite - Lena and Marcel stared at Sandy and Volodja with cold glances.
"So, master of infiltration," said Marcel with intentionally ill hidden sarcasm. "What is the plan?"
"Nothing special," replied Volodja with his calm voice, deliberately ignoring Marcel's sarcasm. "We have a truckload of parts here, which I believe is part of routine deliveries. That should give us a chance to get in without any problems. Especially when we deliver essentials, like bubble gum for the Mistress. And...Oh I see. You could not tame your curiosity and peeked in. Say "hello" to the original crew of the truck. You didn't think that I leave them behind, all strapped and wrapped, with a notice - "Dinner is served, Hellbugs." You know me well enough to be sure that it won't happen as long as I am on my feet."
"Not for a long," thought Lena, hiding her thoughts behind unblinking eyes. "Sorry, Marcel, but Volodja is on our way and will be wiped off for good." And she smiled wickedly to her future victim.

Chase had followed Lu's lead in getting into the Ark. If he had to admit, it was a first time going in through a wall without having to breach it. But when he saw Lu pull out a throwing knife, Chase decided on using his Charge Blade, taking place on her right as they approached the main area. He kept the blade deactivated until he had to use it.
"I'll admit, when it comes to stealth, I've been slightly out of practice. But, I'm sure it will come back to me, like riding a bike."
Lu looked at him a moment confused.
"It's some sort of old saying," Chase told her. "I certainly have no idea what a bike is."
They approached a corner, both of them checking around the corners to see if they could spot any opposition.
"One," Chase whispered as he motioned to his right.
Chase moved quietly around the corner, slowly sneaking up up the Inquisitor guard. Within a fraction of a second, Chase activated the blade just as he thrusted up through the Inquisitor's back. He clapped his left hand over the guy's mouth while his right arm pushed the blade farther into him. There was something inside of Chase that felt different. Before, he wouldn't feel anything about taking out an enemy, which often followed with confusion as he doubted himself about if he was making the right decision. But this time, none of that occurred. He felt like he did so long ago, when he finally got the drop on those cannibals and took everyone of them out. It, if he had dared to say it aloud, felt right.
"Chase?" Lu's voice brought him back to the situation.
He deactivated the blade and threw the dead Inquisitor's body over his shoulder, moving it back to the room they came from. Chase got back to Lu, who kept cover until he could join up with her.
"One down," he muttered. "By the way, not sure if you've been informed of this, but the Omec control rods used on Iri and the Indogenes look like a small back spot. I think that it should be easy to remove just by pulling it out. It may hurt the person being controlled, but I don't think it'll cause any severe damage."
"Are you sure?"
"Not really," he answered. "But I guess we'll find out."

"Hey guys, I can see you AND hear you, you know," Said the giant wizard Brody on the big screen above the Presidio's entrance, "With great cameras come great microphones! Anyway, we can't take any deliveries while we are under lockdown. Those poor saps were late with the delivery, so got locked out. Seriously, I couldn't let you guys in even if I want to, as only Lady can deactivate the traps once they are activated, and she won't do that until after the Attica is created, so if I were you, I'd just go back to Fortress Kshaa and hunker down until the great transformation! The traps here are set, and even though I set them up, I've been ordered not to tell you what exactly they are or how to get past them! So go away, as Lady said! You don't want to get hurt! Oh look, more company!"
Just then Belle Starr's white Challenger drove up with Belle at the wheel and Atticus in the passenger seat, and as they got out, Brody got back into his role, saying dramatically, "I am the great and powerful Broderick, and I am your Dungeon Master for this quest!" Then Brody cleared his throat, taking our a yellowed roll of paper, unrolling it and reading,
"If the Dark Lady ye wish to see, Ye must get past all three dangers to pay the fee! Not one danger, nor two, but the number be three! First get past the river of fire! Second past the hell bug's huge sire! Third past the Amazon's ire! Only one may pass, the rest's fates are truly dire!"
Brody cackled in a staged manner, looking very proud of himself, then as the huge front door of the Presidio creaked open slowly, he said dramatically, "Well what are you waiting for? Go on in! It's dying time!" Adding with a sudden serious look as he pulled off his fake white beard, "Lady wrote the poem, but I made the traps! Guys, really, I'd turn back if I were you!"

"There are six of us now. Count of dangers is three. We must pass all those traps. Yet we still don't know how.
But I come to believe that answer lays there. I what Brody the Wizard say to us dared."
Said Volodja and then he continued in prose: "In plain and simple English it means that everything we need to know is hidden in those verses, Brody just recited to us. So it's time to put our minds to the work. Since Brody is the one who created the traps and did it because Lady told her so, they are our source of information. Everything I have seen here so far, is based on the memes of popular culture. Even hiding the key into verses. And number three is always has been the favourite number in fairy tales - three sons, three bears, three tasks and so on.
If everything has it's reference in cultural texts, we must remember everything Lady might have been read or watched. The books and the movies. I guess that movies are even better option because teenagers are admirers of visual culture. Let us start with our assumptions before we enter, because it might be too late for us once we are inside. I really want to avoid the fate she described in those last verses. Lady isn't evil, but I would suggest us to avoid unnecessary risks. And if anyone wants some bubble gum, then serve yourselves. We have a full box from our not that glorious interception operation. Somehow those kind of things keep happening. This time I can't even pave the path to the true heroes."

I glared at the screen, then looked at Volodja. "You may be my favorite fool but, don't be foolish this time. He said only one may past, so NONE of you are entering. I am the one known for having a death wish so I will go alone. Besides it is my wife causing this, so it is my risk to take. Then only one of us does or dies. The rest will be out here, moderately safe.
Now on to his dakking riddles. A river of fire could mean lava or actual fire or something. I am not completely sure I guess I will know when I discover it. The second one is obvious. A hellbug's huge sire is a Monarch. So at least I will have something to unleash my rage on. The third...he said the Amazon's ire. Volodja as I recall you called Erika an amazon once, so perhaps it is her. Dak, I wish I would have thought to learn the Omec command to disable that rod. I will NOT kill my sister, although I may finally consider smiting Smythe. Anyway, I suppose. I will have no choice but to knock her out and rip it out of her neck and hope that doesn't kill her.
So we know what I think he meant, and my opinions on the solutions. What about the rest of you?"

"You seem to be on the right path, Atticus. Let me add just couple of useless comments for the general knowledge. That should be a privilege for all fools and lately it had been my only function, so hopefully you can bear it. Usually lava is depicted as a river of fire in the movies. It's a great visual, and we are in area, known for it's seismic activity. San Francisco earthquake in 1906 struck the coast of Northern California with a moment magnitude of 7.8 and a maximum Mercalli intensity of XI which means Extreme. As a result, about 3000 people died and over 80% of San Francisco was destroyed. And that's the most famous case. A thing to remember if one might ask, where they get their lava. "Sire" means the boss indeed, so you probably have a boss fight ahead. It used to be a form of address for reigning kings in the United Kingdom and in Belgium. Actually the title was also used in France, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Sweden and Spain as well. During the Middle Ages, Sire was generally used to address a superior, a person of importance or in a position of authority or the nobility in general, so it had wider used, but I think that you should stick with the Monarch. As for Erika. Yes she is an Amazon par excellence. She doesn't need a man by her side and she is a warrior to the buttons and bowes. And at moment she has will of her own despite of the Omec control rod. Nobody took it away and that might be an edge for you. At moment everything seems to be logical, but you better observe the situation meticulously, because there might be something else waiting for you. I'd hate to let someone to go alone, so I was looking for the loophole to bypass that rule. Technically every one of us who enters, breaks the rules because nobody of us is alone - we all have our sentient EGO psyches. And the rest of the gang in some cases. At least I consider them to be personalities, if we are going to split the hair. But I guess that we have to stay behind and wait for another attack on us to keep ourselves busy, so tell me when it occurs. And if it won't happen, then I can read my book in peace at least." Saying that, Volodja sat down to the ground, leaned his back against the truck for the comfort and started to read.

"I don't know Atticus... from the beginning I thought y'all should talk with Lady, but I never thought y'all should go alone," Said Belle Starr with a frown on her rose petal lips, her blond hair tossing as she nodded her head showing her displeasure at the idea. "For once, I agree with Blondie," Said Lena Marr with exasperation, seeing her chance to eliminate Volodja by mistake evaporate if they don't go in together, then glanced at Sandy with a wicked grin, "And I mean Barbie Blondie not Soldier Blondie!" Sandy Bell popped a piece of bubble gum into her mouth, putting several more into the top pockets of her fatigues, remarking, "Semper Fi and all that!" "Anyway, that's the problem with you do-gooders! You always want to play by the rules!" Said Lena, gesturing wildly with her chalk white arms to emphasize her point, "Just because Little Lady and Butt-kiss Brody want to make rules, doesn't mean WE have to follow them!" Belle smiled her winning smile as she moved towards the door, saying, "Then its settled, we go in together!" Belle held the door as the makeshift team filed in, informing Taffer via their EGOs as she did, Atticus insisting on being first. Belle was last, and as she entered the hallway stretching forward, the door slammed and locked behind her. The sound of the door slamming made her stop short, then suddenly there was nothing under her feet as a trap door opened under her and she disappeared from sight, sliding downwards in a nearly vertical chute greased so that there were no handhold to be had. She wasn't sure how far down she traveled, but was dumped into a large room filled with a green gas, that quickly rendered her gasping for air and then unmoving. Far above, the trap door closed quickly, with no seam to be seen. "Damn, that looked like fun!" Exclaimed Sandy with a wide grin as she popped a large bubble with the bubble gum she was chewing.

"Would you like a piece of chewing gum?" offered Volodja gallantly to Lena Marr to stop her from providing the rest of beautiful and intelligent women with her epithets.
Lena accepted it with a wicked grin, thus creating invisible bond between them and invoking the unsaid rule of the guest right. When a guest eats the food and drinks the drink beneath the host's roof, the guest right will be invoked and that means that neither the guest can harm his host nor the host harm his guest for the length of the guest's stay. Technically it wasn't Volodja's roof they were beneath, but he was the one who asked Lena and Marcel to join them on the mission and that sort of meant that he was on the position of host towards them and he was going to keep his part of that rule - he won't cause any harm to Lena and Marcel as long as they are in the same team.
For Lena, rules were something she can break, so even if she even bothered to get herself familiar with the guest right, she could not give a damn about that. When she wanted something, she got it and she used every possible way to achieve her goal without any remorse. That's how she was used to live. Without having much sentiments. Only her and her goal. And expandable obstacles between her and her target.
"Lena hasn't seen you in a dress," whispered Volodja to Sandy. "If she would, then she had a real trouble to decide who is the Barbie Blonde, although I don't like the comparison with Barbie at all, because image of Barbie is way too controversial and commercial. I bet that Lena would envy you for your smarts and looks and femininity when she realizes how gorgeous you are...Damn it! I still keep yapping. I think I should chew some gum myself to keep me quiet."
Suddenly Belle was gone and the team stopped for a quick pow how. Should they try to find her or keep on moving? Another unsaid and unwritten rule stated that nobody shouldn't be left behind. As for falling through the trap door, then that could happen to any one of them. And that's what Volodja told to others - they should not leave anyone in trouble if they want to avoid the fate of Napoleon's Grande Armée during their retreat from Russia. Soldiers who were left behind, usually ended up dead by the hands of partisans, sabres of dragoons or cossacks, cold, starvation or diseases. Their small improvised squad can't afford losing anyone. Every one of them mattered. But there was always some room for different opinions about the survival of all squad members, like Lena Marr's unspoken one...

"It's the old divide and conquer ploy," Said Lena Marr with a wicked grin on her pretty Castithan face as she discretely dropped the un-chewed gum to the ground. "I've used it more than once myself. Let's keep going forward!" "Hate to agree with the great white dope," Said Sandy Bell, blowing and popping another big bubble with her bubble gum, "But this could all be done to delay us. While we look for Belle, Lady's plan gets closer to fruition, and if it does, we all lose, including Belle, who I don't believe Lady will hurt! I vote for going forward too!" Sandy's adrenalin was flowing and she was feeling euphoric, feeling invincible with her Pulser SMG in her hand, so she headed up the hall moving even past Atticus as she blew and popped another bubble.

Next room which they entered on their way made them tread very carefully as they heard some people talking. Lu sneaked forward and saw three people on two benches and playing cards at what she thought was an ammo box. The room was clearly adapted to be some kind of recreation room and all three people were definitely inquisitors judged by their red Dark Matter style uniform. Lu thought of launching her Decoy in her naked form to create distraction but quickly dismissed the thought because one of the Inquisitors was female and she was definitely enjoying the men's company and stale compliments hey gave her. So if two men would be definitely distracted, the female guard would certainly get suspicious which will ruin the possibility to take them down quietly. Another possibility was using a flash grenade but on the second thought Lu decided to keep that grenade for the case where she would really need to keep someone incapacitated but alive. "Time to ring the door bell", she sent through her EGO to Chase and raised her Mass Cannon, making sure her Deadly Cascade perk was active. She fired a rocket and detonated it right above their heads, making them fall on the ground and then a cluster of four bombs exploded as they fell on the floor, turning three people in a bloody mess. Lu quickly loaded another rocket into the empty slot in the launcher's magazine while looking around to see where the enemies who definitely heard the consecutive explosions would come from. The door opened and a group of frightened Indogenes appeared in the room. Lu immediately shot a couple of rockets into the ceiling, but not detonating them before impact, so that only initial explosion was engaged without releasing the deadly fragments. The explosions were only meant to destroy some lights to create a patch of shadow around them. Then Lu examined the group as they continued to approach reluctantly to where the couple of intruders were last seen. "Like I said, think first, shoot second", she sent to Chase through her EGO while sending her Decoy forward to one of the pillars supporting the ceiling. Her holographic image ran up to the pillar and stopped there, seemingly taking cover behind it but still visible enough to the attackers. "Keep their attention on my decoy or on you", she sent, "Beware of cloaked ones. I'll come closer and find the shepherd". As the Indogenes kept their slow approach, she did exactly that she said to Chase, flanking the group from the shadows and searching for the real enemy. According to her calculations, the shepherd's Cloak should dissipate at least two seconds before her Decoy would. She also knew her enemy could also try to shoot her Decoy while their Cloak was still active to use the advantage of a Shadowed Strike or whatever perks they might have active. Or they might get stupid enough to get close to her Decoy so that its scan sweep would get through their Cloak and detect their movement. So once she got close enough, she stood unmoving in the shadow with her Havoc AR and throwing knives ready for enemy to reveal themselves.

"It's decided then," said Volodja. "I don't ask Marcel's opinion, knowing how goal oriented he is." "Maybe I would have been voting for looking up for the blondie," replied Marcel. "But you know me indeed. Napoleon was right when he left weaklings behind. He maintained the core of his army." "And then he had the battle of Waterloo," said Volodja. "So if have your own private Waterloo, you will probably use le mot de Cambronne (the word of Cambronne) too. As a French you surely know that version of Pierre Cambronne's reply when he was called to surrender in Waterloo." "Merde!" said Marcel Lestrange. "That's the word, Marcel," said Volodja before Marcel could continue his tirade. "Shall we move on now?"

Chase had heard Lu say, "Keep their attention on my decoy or on you. Beware of cloaked ones. I'll come closer and find the shepherd."
Something in him told him to move forward, rolling away from protection of cover. He let the Thunder roar with each round as he proceeded forward, knowing that their attention would be caught after taking out one of them. They began to focus on him, each shot bouncing off of shield until he ducked for another nearby cover. He reloaded until he spotted a shimmer of light out of the corner of his eye. He rolled forward as a borage of weapons fire erupted from the gun held by the cloaked figure. Chase switched to Charge Blade and set his sights at the cloaked figure. He swooped the blade at the direction of the figure, apparently missing. A quick correction and Chase felt the impact of his Charge Blade against the blade of another. When the figure's cloak broke, Chase was face to face with a familiar person.
"Well well," Chase spat through his teeth. "If it isn't the a-hole with the stun baton."
The man looked confused for a moment, the gears turning in his head before the look of familiarity crossed his eyes.
"Ah, the human who loves the Indogene," the man spoke with a bit of a chuckle in his voice. "This should be easy."
"I'm really going to enjoy ripping your heart out," Chase replied in Castithan. "Through your throat!"
The bastard, causing him to attack first and rapidly. Chase managed to counter the attacks, biding his time. He recalled something Marcus told him about a concept called a "rope-a-dope", which was some sort of boxing term and concept of allowing the opponent wear himself out. Chase hoped that Lu was handling the situation on her end while he handled the man who kidnapped Iri.
