Belle Starr awoke in her hospital bed in Red Deer, noting even before she opened her blue diamond eyes that Volodja was no longer holding her hand. She immediately missed the warmth of his hand and firmness of his grasp, and her eyes flew open flashing over to his bed next to her fearing the worst. She smiled warmly as he saw he was still in the bed next to her apparently sleeping peacefully, but also saw Sandy dozing as she sat in the chair on the far side of him.
The sight of Sandy leaning precariously against the wall while taking a cat nap, her tan arms tightly held across her chest, made Belle reflexively frown although she didn't really know why. Belle knew Sandy had been Volodja's girlfriend for some time before they broke up, and she assumed Sandy still cared for him, so Belle knew logically that of course Sandy would be concerned about his welfare. Still, it disturbed Belle to see Sandy there, and Belle wondered if her disquiet was because she felt guilty at being the "other woman" who had broken them up.
Belle checked with Alfred, her EGO psyche, who gave her news on her team mates as well as a clean bill of health, which she already knew because she awoke feeling well rested and vibrant. Belle felt like she had energy to spare, so she got up, looking for her clothes until she remembered she had shredded her green Casti suit when she Volged out. Still, she found a pink Castithan suit in her exact size in the closet, so she quickly showered in the attached bathroom and changed into it there. When she left the bathroom, she saw both Sandy and Volodja were still fast asleep, so she tip-toed around the room so as not to disturb them, happily finding that someone had retrieved her Thorn Liro charge blade, her mother's rosary, and the blue crystal compact Vo had given her. As she secreted the items in various pockets of her new suit, she lingered her gaze lovingly on the compact, her heart aching to see Vo again, and wondering if he was all right on the team mission. That brought on another bout of guilt as she glanced back at the sleeping Volodja, as she also loved him as well, and had no idea how to rectify her love triangle.
Belle noticed the huge strato-carrier arrive through the window of her hospital room, and recognized the marking on it as those of the Gulanne empire. She looked back at the sleeping duo, and decided that they probably should have privacy for a must needed unfinished conversation as to their relationship status, so left the room quietly, contacted Esthete through her EGO as she did.
"Esthete, this is Belle Starr," Began Belle cheerfully as she walked down the hall to check herself out of the hospital, hoping someone had gathered the rest of her weapons she had left by the water that flowed by the village below Red Deer, "I'm feeling fit as a fiddle, thank you kindly! Just wanted to offer my services as an intermediary between you and the Empire if y'all need it! You're more than welcome, just let me know!"
Belle wandered out of the hospital after checking out, catching a hovercraft taxi to the airfield, knowing that the arrival of the stratocarrier also meant the safe return of the rest of her team mates.

Volodja Uljanov felt that he was sinking. He was sucked deeper and deeper into the dark water. Same honeyed voice who tricked him to say "Yes" sung on the background: "Down, down, down you go Gently to the deep Sink into the Lethe's flow To eternal sleep" Volodja did that with certain grim pleasure. He didn't even bothered to fight the whirl, pulling him deeper and deeper. Letting go his last link with the world meant slowly passing on for him. "Such a shame," he thought. "I was about to enjoy my life. I had a chance to start a relationship with Belle - a wonderful girl with a vision of better world. She picked up the pieces of me when Sandy left. We just liberated the city of Red Deer and now I am drowning into nothingness." L'Être et le néant : Essai d'ontologie phénoménologique" (Being and Nothingness: An Essay on Phenomenological Ontology). Bloody Sartre! Actually, when to think about it, then his ideas are suitable at moment. Death draws the final point when we as beings cease to live for ourselves and permanently become objects that exist only for the outside world. Too bad though, that I am thinking about him. I guess that I was an intellectual to the end." Outside of his body and mind, two figures, wearing white lab coats, looked at each other. "As I always said, Mr. Wynd, You can run, but..." "...you can't hide, you wanted to say," sounded pleasant tenor. "Hey! That was supposed to be MY line," said third voice with a hint of irritation in it. "I will gladly inject another portion into you, Mr. Uljanov. That should close your mouth for good ad everything will look natural. And stealing other's line isn't very polite. Right, Mr. Kyd?" "Of course, mr. Wynd. Rest in peace Mr. Uljanov. We became really tired following you." And hand in rubber glove covered Volodja's mouth, so he could not make any sound. Another gloved hand, belonging to another man, raised a syringe and inserted the needle into Volodja's flesh. "What about the girl, Mr Wynd? She is quite attractive...." "...for a lady, Mr. Kyd. So was the pale one, he held hands with all night. Let her be. She won't cause any trouble, because she is in deep sleep. I played the Sandman for her."

"Wake up Sandy!" Sarge yelled from her EGO device, "I've fighting the drugs in your system, but it might not be in time!"
"Sarge, I don't hear any gunfire or cannon fire or rocket fire or anything," Said Sandy from a deep sleep. "Just let me sleep a little bit longer... "
"If you do, you won't have to worry about Volodja anymore, because he'll be dead!' Warned Sarge, her EGO psyche, then added quick, "Lean to your right!"
Mustering all of her considerable willpower, Sandy forced her blue eyes to open, then did as her Master Sargent ordered, leaning hard to the right which upset the precarious balance she had when she had leaned the chair back so it was braced against the wall, sending her sprawling towards her Pulser SMG that she had put in the corner. She grabbed it with one hand as she backed into the corner to keep her upright as she sat on the floor, pointing the gun at the two white coated men standing over Volodja.
Sandy's SMG wavered first to one man and then the other, as she said in slurred but determined voice, "I don't know who the shit you two are, but you sure as hell aren't doctors from what you just said and if you don't undo what you just did, you will damn well wish you had, for the brief amount of life you have after I give you a third eye in each of your damn foreheads and really drekking mean it and you better hurry as my trigger finger is itchy and this Pulser has a hair trigger so that if I even fucking yawn I'll shoot you fuckers dead for that's my boyfriend you're messing with and yes he was holding the hand of another girl but that does'nt matter because I love him and only him and what's it to you anyway so get the hell moving or..."
Sandy kept talking, more to keep herself focused and awake then anything else, but used the opportunity to describe her torrid love affair with Volodja Uljanov from when she was a ghost to a holo-person to real life girl, and how she loved the good man Volodja was and how Wynd and Kyd were scum compared to him, not really caring if they listened to what she was saying, other than her order to save Volodja's life. For that, she let her gun do the talking.

"They are kind of cute..."
"...when they are mad."
Wynd and Kyd looked at each other. Whatever they planned doing with Volodja Uljanov, it had to be postponed due unexpected awakening of Sandy Bell.
"Your personal affairs are not our business. We have business of our own. Isn't it true, Mr. Kidd?"
"Absolutely, Mr. Wynd. You know Miss...I think we are leaving. Quietly. If this guy is lucky, then he won't suffer any permanent damage. But we meet again. You can tell him that, when he awakens...after some time, because effect of our little cocktail must wear off first. At moment he is peaceful as a vegetable can ever be. And I do recommend you to put down that sub-machine gun before you accidentally shoot someone. Mr. Uljanov is more worth alive...at least for while...so it would be a shame if you drill a hole into him and spoil his skin. Let' go, Mr. Wynd."
"Indeed, Mr. Kyd. We understand when we are not wanted around. Sweet dreams, Mr. Uljanov, and productive day to you, Miss..."
"One more thing before we go, Miss...You can be proud of yourself. You just won the battle..."
"...but you haven't win the war yet."
Wynd and Kyd retreated in most confusing manner, moving left and right, back and forth, so poor drugged Sandy had trouble with concentration and aiming. They moved steadily to the door and swung themselves out from the room. After awhile they sat into their vehicle and drove away. Both of them pondered about their spoilt moment in hospital, but in longer perspective it didn't meant much. It was a matter of time when they get what they want.
"If at first you don't succeed Mr. Kyd...?"
"Try, try again, Mr. Wynd."

Sandy Bell wondered, "What the fuck was that all about? Mr. Wynd and Mr. Kyd? I'll remember those names!"
Sandy also knew that she wouldn't shoot at the retreating duo, although she was sure she wouldn't hit Volodja, being a level 20 certification with SMGs, but not sure a stray bullet might not go through a wall or into the hallway and maybe injure hospital personnel or other patients. Sandy crawled over to Volodja's bed and hit the call button on the cord above it, waiting for a nurse to answer. The nurse was quite alarmed when she saw Sandy with a SMG, hovering but also staggering above Volodja's unconscious body. Sandy quickly explained that both she and Volodja were injected with unknown chemicals by a pair of assassins pretending to be doctors, whereupon the nurse acted quickly, calling both doctors and hospital security who then went into action.
The first thing they did was to gently disarm Sandy who now that the adrenaline of the adventure had worn off, was having difficulty staying on her feet. Once they had taken her weapon for safekeeping, they put her into the bed formerly occupied by Belle. They took blood from both Sandy and Volodja for immediate testing so as to determine what antidote to administer. There was a moment when the hospital room was empty, and a sleepy Sandy got a mischevious glint in her blue eyes, reaching over to Volodja and holding his hand.
Sandy slowly drifted off to sleep, still holding Volodja's hand firmly in hers, but also sporting a wide self-satisfied grin, as she thought, "When he wakes up, I'll be the one holding his hand! Won't that be a fucking kick in the head! Wish I could stay awake to see his face..."
As Sandy fell into a deep sleep again, EMC Master Sergent Murphy in his commando gear appeared in Volodja's EGO, bowed slightly while taking off his special forces beret, saying to Sophie, Volodja's EGO Psyche, "Excuse me Ma'm for intruding into your private quarters, but I'm Master Sargent Michael Murphy, Captain Sandy Bell's EGO psyche, and I just wanted to assure you we have it all secure on the outside. I'm not sure what those two no-goods injected into you host, but if there is anything I can do to help, please don't hesitate to ask."

"Nice to meet you, Sarge....Or Michael...or Mike. Aren't you the handsome one. Sorry about the mess. I haven't totally cleaned up yet after standard EGO took over this place and created a mess. Too much happened after that so my skills were needed elsewhere. Actually... There is something you can do. Just hold him on place while I finish with his leg. I don't know what they injected into him, but dose was quite huge and since Volodja's brain works 24 hours a day and he has quite an imaginative mind, he had quite strange visions. And he actually hates hospital regime, so I am afraid that consciously or subconsciously he will try to sneak out and wander around the city or something like that when he wakes up."
Volodja himself was totally out. Drugs in his blood slowed every process in his body. Whoever held his hand in her's (compared with Belle's soft skin that hand was a bit coarse, but still felt pleasant) could feel his temperature slowly lowering while his organism fought against chemicals. Cold sweat appeared to his high forehead and his already light skin became even paler than usual. At least that damned honeyd voice was gone.

When Chase went away, declining Vo's company, Vo thought he could use this moment of quietness to visit Belle in the hospital. "Hey Lu", he asked with a wink, "Do you know any place I could get some flowers?" Lu stared at him with surprise but then smiled and sent the coordinates to his EGO. "You can use my Nomad if you want. Just don't overload it please", she added with a giggle. Vo smiled in return, but then he slapped himself on the forehead as he remembered something important. "Shtako!" he muttered, "I've forgot her weapons back there in the village!" "Esthete, could you please rent me a bike please?" He asked through his EGO. "At your service", Eshete's face smiled from the screen of a hoverbike which landed in front of Vo. "Remember, the speed limit is… well, just don't hit anyone, okay?" Esthete said, marking the known entrances to the underground on the map. As Vo descended below the city's grounds, he raced the hoverbike directly to Fiel's hut, hoping he finds him there. "Hello Fiel, how's it going here?" he greeted the Indogene after he climbed the ladder to his "aerial" tent. "As you may see, things are getting rather chaotic here", the Coordinator answered, shaking Vo's hand. "I see you somehow rebooted the system and it became more tolerant to us. Many people opted to move back to the city above and they are working hard on the relocation now. That computer thing even came to me offering his 'help'. I've said him to jek off and let me do my business how I want it. Can you guess what he replied? He said it's okay and I can do whatever I want if I don't cause trouble for other people. Can you believe that? You know, I still don't trust him. He's basically the same machine which forced us to hide here. As it went off the rails once, nothing really stops it from doing just that later in the future. Anyway, people are still leaving to settle above, so I'm afraid I'll be here alone soon enough. But then, I already have much more space to organize my workshop to work on new weapons. You know, this contract for VBI turned out to be rather profitable. The downside is it's quantity over quality. I have to male more prototypes sacrificing the quality of them I would be able to reach if I had more time. Nothing compared to the pistol I gave to you. Ah, is that pistol why you came here? Of course, how could I even think you came here just to visit a friend who briefed you on the ins and outs of this City and provided you some info about yourself in addition?" "…And also imprisoned me in these caves without any access to the Network", Vo continued mocking Fiel's tone as he noted a slight smile on Indogene's usually impassive face. "Glad to see we're past the crisis and your people are doing well. And glad you found the work for your liking. Where are Zic and Zack by the way?" "Already above", Fiel replied, "I doubt they would miss the opportunity to enjoy good weather." After Fiel handed him Belle's weapons, Vo raced back to the airfield, but not before he finally reached the flower shop and bought a bunch of Castithan Blood lilies for her (that took some time as he had to wait until Esthete arranged his scrip chip to be restored). "Belle!" he shouted, seeing her exiting the taxi vehicle. He rushed his hoverbike to her and drew a couple of circles around her before he got off the bike and handed her the flowers, her Demon Hunter pistol and the Wolfhound he had gifted to her not long ago. He also tried to embrace her but would do it only if she allowed. "Well, I'm really glad to see you feel good and I'm glad to tell you we have found Chloe alive, although injured, but nothing life-threatening. But I also have to tell you some bad news. Back home, Lady, Erika and Brody have disappeared. The cameras saw them boarding the helicopter without telling anyone what they were planning to do. Moreover, we have both aircrafts damaged, so we have to wait for them to be repaired before we could leave to our base." "Look people", Lu chimed in, "If you need an aircraft so desperately, I can trade Chloe's plane for a helicopter. You know, the VBI tech is valued much higher here than pre-war or war-time tech, so even the damaged VBI plane would be enough to pay for a functioning chopper. I need an authorization from VBI for it of course as it's their property I'll be trying to trade. Another option is to get a trailer which my Nomad can tow. But As I see, you're always in a hurry and the ground travelling would be much slower than in the air." Meanwhile, Taffer seized the moment to take a nap right inside the stratocarrier as all this piloting and commanding thing appeared to be rather tiresome for him.

Belle Starr was thrilled to see Vo Kshaa riding circles around her on his ATV, and she giggled like a schoolgirl with the happy memories it brought back when he first was courting her. When he gave her the Blood Lilies, she hugged him tightly as her smile widened on her pretty freckled face, then she closed her blue diamond eyes and kissed him passionately, kicking one dainty foot backwards as she leaned into the kiss. As they kissed, she lost herself in the feel of his strong arms around her and the musky smell of his Irathient body, stirring a longing in her loins and a memory of many showers spent making love in the past.
Belle broke the kiss and the embrace, a look of confusion in her blinking big blue eyes. She knew in her heart that she still loved Vo, even though she had convinced herself that she had moved on when she thought him dead. The problem was that she also loved Voloda Uljanov, but for very different reasons. Even though Vo was sweet and smart in his own way, her attraction to him in the beginning of their relationship was more of a physical one, even dating to that first time they met in The Crater long ago. He had an animal magetism that she couldn't deny, even though she did for a long time. It was only later that she and he discovered that the attraction was on many different levels than just the physical, leading her to the inevitable conclusion that they were soul mates.
With Volodja Uljanov, it was different. He first stimulated her intellectually, with shared tastes in culture and the arts. Their attraction had begun on the mental level, but she had just begun to realize there was a physical attraction as well for his slightest tough would electrify her. Although unlike with Vo, they had not yet made love in the physical world, she had felt that they had in the metaphysical one, and it was grand. Belle had thought she had found the impossible: A second soul mate after she lost the first. Then Vo returned, and she found herself in the impossible situation of having two soul mates when she knew in her heart she could only truly have one.
Suddenly Vo thankfully interrupted her mindstorm by saying, "Well, I'm really glad to see you feel good and I'm glad to tell you we have found Chloe alive, although injured, but nothing life-threatening. But I also have to tell you some bad news. Back home, Lady, Erika and Brody have disappeared. The cameras saw them boarding the helicopter without telling anyone what they were planning to do. Moreover, we have both aircrafts damaged, so we have to wait for them to be repaired before we could leave to our base."

But As I see, you're always in a hurry and the ground travelling would be much slower than in the air."
For once, Belle was glad for the intervention of yet another team crisis so that she could delay the inevitable of having to choose between the two men, both of whom she truly loved, as she replied, "I have the authority to sign over the VBI plane to y'all Lu, although the VBI Board of Directors may be a wee bit peeved with me, but I know I can sweet talk them into accepting it's sacrifice as a necessary evil! They won't be too upset, especially when I show them the new more profitable relationship we have with Red Deer!"
Belle laughed melodically, then got her data-pad out and began the electronic paperwork to sign the plane over to Lu Kshaa, glad to focus her mind on business affairs rather than affairs of the heart.

As Sandy Bell slept while the Sarge countered the drugs in her system, her EGO psyche listened to Volodja's EGO psyche. "Nice to meet you, Sarge....Or Michael...or Mike. Aren't you the handsome one. Sarge smiled a lopsided grin and answered, "Anything for you pretty lady. I've almost got all the sleep drugs out of the Captain's system, so she will be up and about soon, and we'll stop if he tries to run rampant. Oh, and YOU can call me Mike." With that, he put on his red beret and gave her a jaunty salute, disappearing slowly until the last thing to go was his easy grin and dark eyes that glinted with a hint of whimsy. "He does know how to make an exit," Thought Sophie to herself.

"Thanks for the trust Belle", Lu said with a smile and a wink, "Your chopper will be here and read to go in an hour or two. I'll be in touch in case any issues arise, but I doubt there will be any. Vo, do you mind if I take your bike?"
Before Vo could even say something, Lu jumped on his ATV and raced to the dock to assess the damage done to the plane and determine what price it could be traded for.
"I just thought… it will be a large sum of money we'll be able to take to ourselves if we just sell it for scrip and keep it", her EGO's voice sounded in her head.
"Klimi, have you ever been slapped by a Warmaster? I wasn't either and I don't want to try it for sure", Lu replied mentally, "Now give me the contacts of aircraft owners in here, we're going to reach them with an offer."

"Well, if we're going to have at least an hour of free time, then why don't we have a dinner?" Vo asked smiling to Belle, "It could be just you and me or we could invite all the team to have it together." Having said that, he called the taxi hovercraft back as it started to drift away slowly, and asked Shirra to mark the cafes nearby for him and also mark ones that can fit all the team if they would come.

Belle Starr took both of Vo Kshaa' red clay colored hands in her two pale ones, and looked intently at him with big blue diamond eyes, then smiled warmly and said, "I'd prefer it if it was just us this once! I don't know when we'll have time to be alone again, with one crisis after another, and we really need to talk! Let's find somewhere close! It doesn't have to be fancy, just somewhere I can... tell you what happened to me while you were... gone! I feel I owe you an explanation as to why I'm so... confused - about me, about you, about us!"
The lanky one-eyed Iranthiant grinned his lopsided grin, then led her to a nearby quiet cafe, where they were quickly seated and served coffee as they awaited their meals. Belle just sipped her coffee and watched him uncomfortably, not knowing how to start the conversation, and not even sure that it wasn't all a dream that she would suddemly wake up from and find out he was still dead. She knew that wasn't true, and was glad of it for she knew her heart couldn't take it if it was. Vo was alive, and so was she, but she also knew she wasn't the same girl he had known, for better or for worse.
"Does it hurt? Your eye I mean!" Asked Belle, a sincere look of concern on her pretty freckled face.
"Only when I laugh," Replied Vo trying to lighten the sober mood, but then quickly apologized, "Sorry, bad joke."
"No," Said Belle as she looked at the napkin in her lap, before looking back up at Vo sitting across the table from her, "I'm the one that should apologize! If the Mistress of Judgment hadn't been using you as leverage against me, you wouldn't have lost your eye, let alone all this time out of your life," She smiled, but more as a formality while she added, "Seems like your famous luck factor doesn't fare as well when I'm in the equation."
"That's not true Belle! The day we met was the luckiest day of my life, " Said Vo with conviction as he grabbed her hand in his from across the table. "Don't ever tell yourself otherwise!"
"Maybe so," She surrendered the point, but withdrew her hand to her lap, saying with sadness, "But I'm not the same girl I was back then, I'm not the girl you fell in love with! Back then I was so sure of everything, and everything was black and white - now everything is shades of gray, and I'm not sure of anything! The more I think I find out about myself, the more I find I don't know diddley squat!"
Before Vo could say anything, the waiter interrupted bring their food, and both Belle and Vo fell silent as the waiter served it. Once the waiter left, Belle stared at the hot food in front of her as she began to tell him of what had happened since he had last seen her on that beach near Freedom. She described how the Mistress's men had rescued her from the bottom of the Gulf, and how she had made Belle watch as an Inquisition torturer gouged out one of Vo's eyes after capturing him just to make sure she towed the line during the mistress' manipulations of her daughter, Lady Chrisitianna. Belle told Vo of how she saw him drown in holographic vision as the Mistress' submarine was destroyed, and how Belle immediately Volged-out, destroying the VBI building that housed her Division of Security Analysis.
Belle told him she Volged out several times after that, but in between those times, she grieved for him. Belle described to him how she went through all the stages of grief, from disbelief, to anger, to sorrow, to depression and finally acceptance. She told him of the lowest point of her grief, when she was addicted to the dream machine just so she could relieve their happiest times together. Belle told how Volodja was always there for her, whether to talk her down when she Volged out, or advocate for her when everyone else wanted to lock her away for losing control of the were-volge within, or even to intervene as she lay in her own filth in her bed not wanting to leave the virtual world she had created in the dream machine. Finally, Belle told Vo how she finally reconciled herself with his death, and had even started dating again, but that all men save one paled beside his memory.
Volodja had been different. It wasn't at all like what she and Vo had, but Volodja and she danced and discussed literature and she began to have fun again. She and Volodja had always been fast friends, but the friendship grew into a love, a love different then what she had with Vo, but a true love none-the-less. Belle told Vo that she had thought the impossible had happened; that she had found true love a second time after having it yanked away from her the first time!
"And that Vo is why I'm so confused," Said Belle flatly as she stared into her untouched and now cold food, "I love you both with all my heart, but how can I love you both with all my heart when I only have one heart! I can only have one true love, but how can I choose? If I choose one, I hurt the other, but I'm a one-man kind of gal! I know I have to choose..."
A lone tear traveled down her freckled cheek as she forced herself to look up into his strong Irathient face not sure of what she was looking for, but forced a smile when she remarked, "It sure was easier when I was sure of everything!"

Sandy Bell had dressed again in her camoflaged light armor, and had a nurse fetch her weapons back for her. She stood over Volodja Uljanov's sleeping form looking at his handsome face, and she grinned as a mischevious thought came to mind. The doctors and both EGOs gave him a clear bill of health, so he should wake up, because they had a helicopter to catch back to Fortress Kshaa and the latest crisis there.
Sandy closed the hospital door for privacy, laying her SMG on the other bed, then went over to him and put one tan hand under his covers. Her blue eyes narrowed as her pink tongue stuck slightly out of the right side of her mouth as she let her fingers explore his body starting from his chest and traveling downwards to his crotch. She found his hospital gown allowed easy access to her target, allowing her to gently massage his manliness with ease until it was at full erection.
It wasn't long before Volodja gasped with relief, whereupon Sandy bent down and kissed him hard on the lips, then whispered as she wiped her hand clean on the bed sheets, "Rise and shine Sleeping Beauty, it's time to catch our fucking ride back to Paradise" But thought to herself, "Bet your damn dream girl didn't do that for you!"

"Rise and shine Sleeping Beauty, it's time to catch our fucking ride back to Paradise" That was a sure wake up call for Volodja, who has been fighting his weakness, loss of blood and drugs in the remains of it. Not to mention hallucinations, caused by aforementioned drugs. He jumped to his slightly staggering feet and greeted Sandy with a smile.
"Good morning, Red Deer! Hey, this is not a test. This is rock and roll. Time to rock it from the hospital and roll ourselves into our base at SF! Is that me, or does that sound like an Elvis Presley movie? Viva Red Deer. Oh, viva, Red Deer. Red Deer me, Red Deer me. Why don't they get a into the store and get some beer for me? Hey, is it a little too early for being that loud? I am sorry. Must be something I ate last night. Or drunk. Where else I could get that junk to what was left of my blood and had a feeling like swimming amidst the flood." he declared, still slightly under the influence of drugs and not being sure what happened with him last night. All he remembered for sure was holding Belle's hand before falling asleep and then came those damned voices.
After awhile he felt that he is almost back in this world and Sandy isn't a ghost but real and hurries him to join the rest of the team, so he said: "I guess I will have to borrow those payamas I am wearing at moment. I totally ruined Brody's clothes and I don't remember visiting any shops last night. Hopefully they forgive me that theft. At least until I have done some shopping and retrieved my armour from the underground. And...Thank you for taking care of me Sandy and watch over my sleep while I was...What the hell happened to me anyway, I wonder? Never mind that. Guess I never know. But I wanted to say that I really, really appreciate what you did for me."
Volodja signed himself out from the hospital and politely refused to let hospital personnel to put him into the wheelchair again so they could roll him out safely, because he spent several hours in one last night and wanted to test his recovered leg at work. With a slight lip he step to the street, accompanied by Sandy Bell and as a first thing found himself a clothes store.
Shop clerk's eyes widened when she saw day's first customer to enter, wearing only hospital payamas, but had to admit that customer managed to wear them stylishly. Smile appeared to her face when he greeted: "Hello. Looks like that you forgot to change in the morning. I am not asking how can I help you, handsome. It's obvious to e that you are looking for..."
"...suitable pair of slippers. Actually I would like to buy something more...traditional indeed, because I have a long trip ahead and covering mileage in my sleepwear is way too eccentric even in my case. And good day to you. So what can you recommend me?" Customer's voice was calm and melodic and he didn't showed any sign of embarrassment like he was used to walk around in payamas everywhere.
"Maybe he escaped from mental asylum. Impossible. He looks way too sane for that and we don't have any mental asylums here, because....because all potential patients were sent away from the City right away for the public good. It's just like someone didn't wanted us to have a place like that. Or even jail. And he is handsome. I wonder if he is one of our kind. What I am thinking. Our kind was deported from the city. Only those who managed to hide, remained. Although...Something must happened last night because everything seems to be...changed," thought the clerk.

While Belle stared at her food, Vo moved his chair and sat to Belle's side, running his hand behind her back and pulling her closer to himself.
"You know Belle", he said in low voice as if someone could be eavesdropping them, "I may be one-eyed but I still can see. I saw your will to help innocents in this City, those you saw for the first time and those you haven't even seen at all. I saw you fighting for their well-being, ready to risk your life for them. I heard you talking about your goals and talking about it so sincerely and decisively that even a crazy Ark Brain managed to understand he's doing something wrong and needs to surrender to avoid any further bloodshed of the people he was originally programmed to serve. I still can see and what I see now is the woman I truly love. I love you Belle, not some phantom I made up in my head. The time I've spent with you is enough for me to know for sure. Tanks to your gift, I hope I'll be able to admire you with both of my eyes again. You say you have your doubts now, but that is fine and normal. It's not because you became somewhat different, it's because the life is a rather complex thing and you started to see and understand that. You're growing up Belle and I'll be happy to grow up with you. I really hope I'll be able to keep up.
All that you told me about what happened to you makes me feel sad I have not been there with you for all that time and sorry that I was the means for the Mistress to cause all that to you. I think the first thing I need to learn is to not rely on my luck so much because even if it tends to save me it turns out so cruel for people who I love and who love me. I'm really thankful to Volo for all he did for you to keep you alive and sane and get over your loss when you thought I was dead. But then it sounds like you want me to help you make this choice. The thing is no matter how I want you grab you in my arms and say to you to come with me and forget everything that causes you to suffer I know I won't do that. That's what my copy in that dream machine might do but not me. It is only you who can make the choice and only that way you can be sure you did it right for yourself. The point is if you choose one of us, you don't lose the other. If you choose me, I won't be locking you in the cage. You'll still be able to talk with him about everything I might be not the best talker for. And frankly, I'll feel better knowing there's someone else who can sooth your Volge in case I don't happen to be around. I know you're a one-man kind of gal and I trust you completely.
But then, If you think you deserve more than I can deliver, then go for it. Just go ahead and don't be afraid to hurt me. I promise I'll get over it because no matter how I love you for myself, I always want the best for you and I want you to be happy. I'll still be your friend and I'll still be his friend. You'll still have me protecting you and our family when needed. Frankly, I had some doubts about myself if I could fulfill this promise I give for Volo but now I know for sure because the last fight had given me a chance to do just that and I've done it without any second thoughts and I'll do it again if there's a need."
He moved his head close as he touched her cheek with his nose and whispered in her ear, "This world is so bright with your beauty gracing it, but it will truly shine if you afford yourself to be happy."
