I watch the stranger and Taffer as I listen to Lady. After she walks outside, I address Taffer, "My experienced opinion is that a security threat that can risk the team's safety, (in a deep growling voice I say,) needs TERMINATED WITH EXTREME PREJUDICE! (then in my normal almost civil voice) However Lady has a point. You are not the type to send somebody out to be slowly killed by Razor Rain. I have three suggestions. Either you give me the termination order, he stays tied up and supervised in here, or we find a use for him! His gear is by your feet. There is no ammo in his weapons. He had this odd device on him, but I do not recognize it. I must admit I still do not know all your HUMAN old Earth gadgets. I will be right outside if you need me to handle him." I hand Taffer the device and look over the stranger.
Then I double-check my guns and gear, and step outside. I follow Lady around the corner, and remove my helm and give her a quick kiss, then put it back on over my masked face. "Snow Angel, Taffer knows my opinion on the stowaway situation. Now it is up to him as Strike Team Leader to make a final decision. Until then, we wait out here and survey the area."

As was told before, being tied up was not a bad situation for a caught stowaway. But it had it's downsides. For a start - it was damn boring. And secondly - it left too much time to ponder about future, which seemed to be dark as oil pool. Volodja calculated his chances of surviving if he had to walk to the nearest town with weather conditions like these. Results were most unsatisfying. Besides - he was not sure about getting his gear back from those people. Wandering around wasteland without proper equipment reduces chances of survival even more. Every dark cloud has silver lining. Maybe it is so but those rusty clouds outside definitely missed one.

Taffer looked through the open bay door for a moment. The scenery looked almost same as it was when he left this place. A desert-like flatland swept by strong winds from the Storm Divide, and a set of rocks created by some random terraforming bombs that had fallen here. "I can't have someone I can't trust on my ship while I'm away. You having an EGO device makes things even more complicated. So take your belongings and get out. There's a cavern in that hand-like rock where you can wait out a razor rain. I'll join you there while we're working". He took a stowed Dark Matter portal and a coil of rope, watched Volodja leaving the ship and left it too, closing the door behind. "Chris and Chloe", he sent over the ship's comm unit, "I need you to keep engines ready for takeoff as soon as we get back. Weapons and radar should stay online too. I'm pretty sure someone could mistake our landing for an arkfall". He walked up to Lady and Atticus, "I've sent the guy off the ship. Given the size of the ship, I don't think our presence here will be unnoticed for long anyway. So we'll have to make this quick. In addition, the weather decided to hurry us up too so let's move". He looked up in the sky at the rusty cloud and then lowered his eyes to the horizon, where thick dark gray clouds of the Storm Divide were amassing. "You don't even need to climb the cliff to see them now", he muttered and walked to the rocks nearby. He threw a grenade into the ravine between the two rocks and waited for it to explode. When the dust settled, a rusty ventilation shaft could be seen protruding from the ground. He took his charge blade, cut the bolts holding the cover and pushed it away from the shaft. "Dash, check the air", he asked his EGO unit, looking inside with a flashlight. "No poisons", she answered, "a little stuffy but breathable""As if I've never left", he muttered again and turned to Lady and Atticus. "As you may see", he began, "The main entrance has collapsed and sunk underground. The only accessible entrance was wide enough for a bunch of starving kids and teenagers, but not for an adult man. So that's where Lady comes into action. Lady, your task is to descend through this air vent and set up a portal for us to come there too. But there's another problem. Last time I seen the Dark Matter portal activated near the Core, it got activated and turned on a full-scale defense routine until it completely burned out. So it would be much better if you upload the shutdown routine to it before we use the portal. Here's the map of the bunker". He handed a piece of paper to Lady. "The bunker was safe enough for some teenagers without any shields, EGO devices or weapons to live there, but that was fifteen years ago, and I don't know what can be there now. First thing once you get there is to turn on the generator in the adjacent room so you'll get some light and ventilation. Next, set up the portal for us. Your EGO has the instructions and it's very easy to set up from the stowed position. Next, if everything is safe around, proceed to the storage room where the Core is held. The lock looks like it's broken, but it's not. It was set to react on my fingerprints, but your EGO could hack it in a moment. Be careful with the core. Each time we tried to approach it, it hit us with electricity, so in the end we left it alone and locked up. I'm uploading the shutdown program to your EGO. And the more complex one that will instruct it to create a drilling machine and dig itself a way to the surface. The opposite blast door from the Core room leads even deeper underground. It's where we dropped all the EMC soldiers' bodies we found in the bunker and then we welded the gate. Even I don't know what's there. Basically, you can do everything by yourself. But do it only if you know you're safe. If something goes wrong, call for help or get back through the portal. No piece of Arktech worth losing your life for it. As I said, I don't expect anything of danger down there except the Core itself, but you never know. So please attach this rope just in case we have to pull you back up, good luck and be careful". "Atticus", he turned to him, "Once she gets inside through the vent, run to the ship, stay near the portal and be ready to jump in on my command. And please. If you feel she's in danger, don't wait for my command. Just say you're going and do so. I'll guard the entrance".

I listen as I watch the stowaway walk away, then turn to Taffer. "Beleive me. I will definitely be through that portal right away, if she is in trouble. And whoever hurts her or any teammate, for that matter, will pay! Your orders be damned!!! However...If that thing really is sparking, then I can not tell you what affect I would have on it, until I have already affected it, so let's hope that doesn't happen. I still say that guy, may be a major threat though. I hope you know what you are doing in both cases." I look at the strange man again, as he enters a cavern and disapears from sight.
I lift my helm and give Lady another kiss, then lower and resecure it, as I look at Lady and say, "Snow Angel, I know you can and will succeed in this, but be careful down there. If I lost you....." I look away, not finishing my sentence.
Then I turn back towards Taffer. "Shouldn't Lady, be taking one of the Votan Rebreathers with her, just in case?"

Being stuck in tiny, dark places seemed to become a habit for Volodja. First that crate, now the cavern. "Fortunately I don't have claustrophobia but if I keep going that road, then by the end I will develop one. That's for sure.", he thought. "Since there is nothing to do, but wait, I better start creating possible scenarios again."
"Let me think now...
Let us start with thesis that their commander started our relation with a lie. "Just a test flight and fetching some equipment", I remember him telling me. In middle of nowhere is a deserted bunker and bunch of trained and well armed people just go and fetch some equipment from there. Probably these kind of people let their equipment lay inside deserted bunkers. Makes me wonder, what they really want from that bunker. But enough of that. It takes me nowhere. Let us be more constructive, shall we?
So what I can do, considering circumstances?
First variant - that merry bunch succeeds in, what ever they do in that bunker. Then I will be at their mercy again.
Second one - they will get wiped out from map. Then I have few possible scenarios:
a) I will sneak out of here and try to stay in one piece until I reach town b) almost the same but has a bit maraudering included. Chances of making to town alive with better equipment will be higher, but I don't have a guarantee to come out from the bunker alive c) getting my charming personality to their ship and trying to convince those pilots to take me along
Third option - I could sneak in to that bunker, tail them and either help them fight or do absolutely nothing. And then we celebrate victory together, share war memories or I have to start with maraudering.
And one more thing - getting killed is not an option"
Future was full of choices. Soon will be time to make one. Again...

"Good idea, Atticus. I'll fetch one. Stay here, you need to have your Blur charged and ready". He turned his blur on and rushed to the ship, took one of the rebreathers and returned back to his group. "Keep it handy, Lady", he said to her, "And Atticus, If the core reacts badly on you, it still can be weakened and shut down. But if that won't help to tame her, then just apply any powers to destroy the thing. Lady's life is always a priority".

I ready blur as Taffer retrieves a rebreather. Upon his return I say, "Lady..and the team are always the MAIN priority. However I will do what I can to keep both her and the Core safe. Just watch your back since Lady will be busy below. I will be busy watching her back as needed, and Robet and Mac Guyver are busy on the ship. So that leaves you alone with that Uljanov guy."

Lady Christianna's eyes grew big and blinked twice when Taffer finished telling the team the plan and gave her the map of the bunker. Lady never liked small enclosed places ever since she had spent most of a school day stuck in a locker where bullies had imprisoned her. When she was thirteen, Lady was the smallest and weakest of her class because of malnutrition, and her father barely eked out a living doing part time manual labor, so she went to school that day in a burlap sack dress. A gang of five human bullies cornered her under a stairwell, made fun of her, then tore her dress off. They taunted her even more once they saw her skinny boyish body, saying she wasn't even worth raping, then pulled her into a hallway and locked her in a school locker. She had refused to give the bullies the satisfaction by calling out for help. No one had missed her, so she wasn't found until her father came to walk her home and not finding her, insisted on searching the school grounds. Bocar had found her after a half hour of frantic searching and calling her name. When he found her, Lady was naked and shivering, whether from the cold winter day or fear, she was never quite sure, but she was moved to a private school the next day, paid for by Karl Von Bach. As they tethered her, Lady looked down the small dark hole of the air vent, then said, "Woo," with more than a hint of sarcasm, as she crawled into the tight darkness. The air was stifling as she made her way down, pausing only to pull out a pen light from her coat's inner pocket when she heard something scurrying. Holding the penlight in her small mouth to keep her hands unencumbered as she continued downward, she moved her head around flashing the light here and there but saw nothing. Finally her small feel touched bottom, so she kicked the vent grill into the storage room, which fell with a loud metallic clang where it hit ground, causing another bout of scurrying sounds. Lady's EGO radar didn't pick up anything in the room, so Lady flashed her pen light around the large storage room, seeing several Votan rats running around the floor, their green and purple striped bodies easily discernible against the gray floor. Lady wrinkled her white button nose as the pungent smell of years of rat feces on the floor hit her sensitive nostrils. "This is SO jank." Muttered Lady under her breath, as she untethered herself, allowing the others to lower first her Crime Fighter Shotgun and then the collapsible Dark Matter portal. She left the stowed portal in the vent as she entered the storage room, her presence scaring the rats away. She took out a roll of duct tape from her messenger bag, quickly attaching the pen light to her Crime Fighter shottie so that it would illuminate any area she pointed her gun at, then flashed it around the dust covered room until she found the way to the generator room. She made her way into the generator room, finding a switch that turned it on, then a second switch that seemed to turn on the emergency lights. The lights flickered blue, making everything appear as if an old fashioned silent movie, not that Lady had ever seen one. Lady then felt comfortable enough to stop and take a sip of water from the canteen that Atticus had given her, reaching out with her EGO to give her team mates a status report and to personally tell Atticus "Hugs, Kisses," but only getting static in return. Lady thought she saw movement by the doorway from the corner of her pink eyes, but when she flashed her light over there, she saw nothing. She was starting to find it hard to breathe, whether because of the stale air or anxiety she didn't know, so she put on the Votan Rebreather just to be careful. She carefully moved back into the storage area, nervously flashing her light into the dark corners of the room. Once she saw the room was clear, she breathed a sigh of relief, and began assembling the stowed Dark Matter portal. Elsewhere in the bunker, across from the door to the chamber where the progenitor core lay, a huge mutant Gila Monster was awakened by the flickering emergency lights from where it lay on the battered door that had once been welded in place. It found the cool metal of the door comforting as it slept, but now it was awake and hungry, it's last meal of a hell bug warrior a distant memory. It stretched each of it's six legs in turn, it's long reptilian tongue flicking out of its huge sharp toothed maw, licking the top of its brightly hued head. Black beady eyes peered through the hallways it moved slowly through, drawn by an unfamiliar smell, but definitely the smell of something alive and therefore food. Lady was unaware of the monster's awakening, as the ambient alien radiation of the place, although not enough to harm living things, masked its presence from her EGO much as it interfered with communications. So she continued working on the portal, humming "Everything is Awesome" as the monster approached ever closer.

"Jek! I forgot tiny, but important detail - their commander will accompany me and what are chances that he will leave to take a long leak or tries to find a bar so I can get out of here? What can I do about that matter? Should I try to knock him out and take a hike? What will keep me not doing that? Fact that he pronounced my name correctly? Not enough. But in other hand, he is the one who stands between me and that huge masked fighter, who wants to erase me from Earth's ground. That one speaks for not knocking him out. Because if their team returns alive from bunker, then I need safe zone and he can grant me one. One more thing speaks for him - he is strong looking and if I fail, then will be a struggle. Only thing to do is wait and see. And act according to circumstances. You may plan few moves ahead, but at end, man must improvise"
With these thoughts Volodja sat down in more comfortable manner and started whistling a tune. What else could he do? After all - things are about to happen. Something unforeseeable might occur. Until then was better to have some rest. Maybe he could play some chess with his EGO to kill time? Perhaps he finally succeeds in explaining to EGO, why pawns can't move backwards.

As I watch Lady`s cute backside disapear, I can tell the thought of that tight space is bugging her but all I can do is hope she can keep it together, atleast long enough to activate the portal so I can be there for her. Once I can`t see her anymore I quickly blur back to the ship. I pull out my Auto Fragger and ready overcharge. Then I must, just wait nervously by the portal, hoping she can do it and be fine.
As I impatiently stand there waiting, Kakusi starts getting agitated. All I can do is think, "Come on Tianna. You need to activate that portal soon, so you have a way out or back up if something goes wrong!"

Lady Christianna thought back to Taffer's briefing just before she went into the dark air vent, "But there's another problem. Last time I seen the Dark Matter portal activated near the Core, it got activated and turned on a full-scale defense routine until it completely burned out. So it would be much better if you upload the shutdown routine to it before we use the portal." Lady sighed, really wanting to flick the switch on the portal so Atticus could teleport to her side, pull off his helm, hug her in his strong arms and kiss her passionately. She vigorously shook her head to dismiss the distracting if very appealing image from her mind, pulling out the map and looking where to head next. "Living Quarters, huh?" Thought Lady to herself. "More like Dying Quarters," Said a masculine voice from behind her. Lady spun around, her shottie at the ready, but the light revealed there was nothing there. Just my mind playing tricks thought Lady to herself. Still, she proceeded cautiously down the corridor leading to the rooms marked living quarters on Taffer's map. Like everywhere in the bunker, the living quarters were covered with a layer of dust. In it, there were several bunk beds and the paraphernalia often found in the rooms of teenagers. One bed had worn stuffed animals on it, another had a stack of porno magazines, a small table had several boxed board games on it. Old and soiled clothes were everywhere on the floor, almost so that you couldn't see it. To Lady, it looked like a decade ago people had just left suddenly, not bothering to pack or even grab mementoes. As she examined the stack of board games on the table, a gruff voice said behind her, "Not only are you not worth raping, you're not worth killing, but you're going to die anyway!" Lady spun around a second time, seeing the five school bullies from her past scattered around the room. One was sitting on a top bunk, grinning as he looked at the foldout of a porno magazine. Two others were playing checkers on another bed. Another was leaning against a wall, flicking a switchblade knife open and closed. The leader of the bullies was standing directly behind her, his feet firmly planted and his arms folded, smiling wickedly as she backed away from him, bumping the table, knocking the board games to the ground. One thing they all had in common was their bodies were in varying states of decay, their clothes in tatters, and long strips of flesh hanging off their limbs. The bully with the knife didn't have a lower jaw, and the leader of the bullies had one eye hanging out by it's stem, which bounced up and down as he laughed at her. "It's all in your head, silly," Said Minx, her EGO device. "But this is impossible!" Thought Lady frantically to her EGO, "Taffer checked and there were no poisons in the air and I have a rebreather on!" "Isn't it handy to have an EGO? Hint, hint!" Replied Minx. Lady looked at her hands, and saw that they were covered with a layer of dust, the dust that seemed to cover everything in the bunker! "There must be a hallucination inducing toxin in the dust, easily missed by an EGO scan, especially in these conditions," Thought Lady. Minx exclaimed cheerfully, "Bingo!" "Just great," Muttered Lady as she moved into the short corridor leading from the living quarters to the dance/training hall. As Lady entered the large round room, she was surprised that it was brightly illuminated by a white light and everything was white and clean. "Everything was Awesome" was playing, albeit at a slower more danceable beat. Most surprising to Lady, in an incredibly pleasing way, was the fact that Atticus Batman was standing in the center of the room, wearing his helmet and a white tuxedo, complete with tails. He held up his hands, saying to her, "May I have this dance Snow Angel? I believe it's a fox trot!" Lady dropped her Crime Fighter shotgun as she slowly moved to him, smiling broadly, her pink eyes glittering with pleasure, but stating, "Don't know how." Atticus took off his helmet, tossing it behind him, his face smiling and unscarred as he replied, "I'll teach you!" At the other entrance into the Dance Hall, a pair of beady and hungry eyes watched the small thin Casti girl slowly stumble to the center of the dusty debris strewn room, the flickering blue light emphasizing her every step. The huge Gila Monster licked its large lips with it's long forked tongue.

Stiil in the cargo hold, I can hear kakusi screaming that there`s danger and sense an extreme happiness from my grid piece in Lady`s locket, a happiness she shouldn`t be feeling right now.
I decide to follow my instincts since they are usually right. I send a message to Taffer: " It`s been to long and the portal still isn`t active. I can sense Lady`s in dager! I need to do something Now!!!"
As I send the message to Taffer, I feel an electrical surge go through the ship and an electric aura starts emenating from me. Then Kakusi appears near me. I jump as I adress him "Kakusi is that you? How?!"
He glows and says, "Shutup Fleshing! I am using your ego`s holographic emiter. Now look at me good, you idiot! For you are glowing just as I am! I am grid, so I`d be able to get to your girl using electrical current. You are half Irath so you can not. However if you focus, you can harness the powers somehow. I don`t know or care how, but our `heart` is in danger you need to save it....her! Do something now Fleshling!"
Just then Kakusi ends the holographic image, but once again tells me to do something now. Before it`s too late to save our `heart`!
As I think about Lady being in danger, with Kakusi`s warnings and screams of danger vibrating in my head, my electrical aura surrounds me like a bubble. The edge of the bubble hits the portal, and for a second I can see through it into the base below.
That`s when I get an idea. I concentrate and my bubble dissapears as all the electrical waves I am emiting start flowing into my hands. I quickly remove my gloves and grab the portal sending the electrical surge into it nad the base below. I can tell it is also better charging the ship`s systems. i scream so loud in agony that Taffer and Volodja can clearly hear it in their cave, as the portal I am holding flickers and the portal in the base activates.
I quickly put on my gloves and send Taffer a message. Taffer portal active! Going after Lady!"
I quickly activate my helm`s night vision as I step into the portal. When I appear on the otherside, I instictively go running towards where my Grid instincts say my other half is.
As I get there, I see Lady dancing as a giant lizard starts to snap at her. I shoot it but no affect. I quickly switch to blur and draw my Katana. As I run in past Lady she blinks at me as if in a daze. I then Yell at her to snap out of it and run back to the portal. As I do so, I leap at the lizard drawing it`s attention. As I start fighting it, I hope Lady heard and understood. A good 20 minutes or so later I notice she ran back towards the portal, as the beast smacks me with it`s head. I just keep slashing. It`s blood spurting everywhere. I can tell it won`t last much longer. However I drained my energy reserves getting down here and fighting this beast for so long, and am not sure how much longer I can keep it up before I am too weak to fight.
By the time Taffer finally gets Lady to the ship, then gets down to me the beast is dead and I am laying against it`s Side.
I see Taffer and respond. "Please tell me lady is fine!... The core is still fine. I however don`t have enough energy to affect it or move. If you can get my helm off and get my flask from my boot, Help me drink it. What`s in there should give me just enough strength to at least make it back to the portal....I hope."

"I've registered some electric surge from below", Em Dash said to Taffer as he was touching the outline of the shaft, "and I've lost Lady's EGO signal". "Was she attacked?""Unlikely, I didn't register her shield discharge pulse". "Atticus, does the portal have a link yet?" He sent to Atticus and his face darkened even more when he got a negative answer. "But she did assemble it, I've heard distinctive clicks. I don't like it", he muttered as first chunks of razor rain hit the ground, "we need to do something and fast". He looked around, noticed a piece of raw gulanite which had just fallen from the sky and picked it up with his pliers. "2 scrip for a chunk, good old times", he muttered. He was about to run to the ship and catch Tim to do some skittering around for him, when he heard Batman's scream and his EGO registered a powerful energy surge. "Going from bad to worse", Taffer thought, running to the cave where Volodja was sitting. "Time to get some knowledge before this knowledge gets us", he said to him, "Do you still have your shield working? Good. Let's Blur and run to the ship". When they reached the ship, portal was already active and linked and Atticus was nowhere to be seen. Taffer threw a piece of gulanite to Tim and stood in front of the portal, thinking for a moment and looking at Volodja. Then he parted his AR ammo and handed it to him. "If you try to shoot anyone of us, it will be the last stupid thing you do in your life. Now let's go find out what's happening there". He entered the portal and rushed through the corridors he knew by heart, pushing over the makeshift furniture that got in his way and dragging Volodja behind him. He met Lady in the corridor, she was pointing her finger to the dance hall. "I know, I'll catch from here. Volodya, please guard Lady on her way to the portal. Lady, don't even think to object, he'll have much more freedom in his actions knowing you're safe, so move!" He saw Atticus lying against the giant mutated lizard. "She's fine" Taffer said. He took Batman's flask and took his helmet off. "The Core is fine…" "I wouldn't say so", Taffer raised his eyes, watching a crudely assembled DJ mixer console with a label "=DJ Taffer= -Der Meisterdieb-" scribbled on it raising into the air, spinning pieces of old discs as lifting rotors and aiming its laser head at him. He sent a Decoy to have some seconds to give Atticus some water, then helped him up. "Get yourself to safety too. I have some housecleaning and repair works to do" Meanwhile the DJ console was playing Rammstein — Links 2-3-4, shooting a blast after blast at his decoy.

Volodja's proud solitude was not meant to last 100 years. "Time to get some knowledge before this knowledge gets us", being said in distinctive russian accent, interrupted his mental chess game. "Damn it, I almost won myself," mumbled Volodja and everything went blurry for awhile, when he and commander Taffer made run to the ship.
Things started to look like that Volodja will get some action. Assumption was confirmed when Taffer tossed some ammo into his palm, warning him about consequences if Volodja happens to shoot any of crew. Warning was actually unnecessary. Yes, they were not Volodja's favourite people at moment, but they were ONLY people around him. Besides - all plans Volodja has been making, while he sat on cavern, did not contain shooting any of them. Knocking out somebody - that thought run through his head, he was ready to admit, but not killing. That option was excluded from a beginning
"Don't underestimate me, Chief" said Volodja. "I am not especially fond of you, people, but doing something that dumb is not in my nature."
Taffer dragged him through abandoned corridors. Quick tour ended suddenly, when they spotted small, pale, pink eyed figure of Her Ladyship. Lady was pointing at the door. If anything exciting was going to happen, it will be in other side. Unfortunately for him, Volodja was asked escort Her Ladyship to portal. Meaning, that he would probably miss all the fun, he thought, when he watched Taffer entering to a big round room. "On other side - I owe her Ladyship one favour for getting me out of hook" (Volodja still felt cold shivers, when he remembered experience of being dragged after that damned flying ship).
"Let's go, Your Ladyship", said Volodja "I would offer you my arm, as a gentleman, but I am afraid that your big boyfriend will tear it off afterwards and uses it to make a nice necklace for you."
They stumbled back to the portal, leading to the ship, and entered. "Home, sweet home," muttered Volodja. That was not very original thing to say.
"Hey you! Move your ganchie over here and take care of Her Ladyship!" was his next line, when he spotted some crew member near the portal.
He thought for a second. Taffer asked him to escort Her Ladyship back to vessel. That was done. And nobody told him what he may do or not allowed to do after accomplishing that task. He grinned and snapped bunker plan from Her Ladyship hand.
"Your Ladyship. Please forgive my rudeness, but circumstances demand my presence in that bunker", said Volodja when he dived into portal.
In times of insecurity, people have a need to feel something solid in their hands. It might be deceiving feeling, but when you confront danger then holding a weapon is better, than holding nothing. "Si vis pacem, para bellum," said Volodja, checking condition of his VBI TACC AR. It was not his favourite choice. At least when fighting indoors. Nice shotgun is much better in close quarter combat, but poor man must be thankful for everything he gets.
Following the map, he managed to make to the door where they met Her Ladyship. Quick stop and one more weapon check (you can never be too careful). "Interesting music choice they have here. Rammstein mixed with gunshots. I would preferred some Haendel," he thought, listening noises from other side. Then he was ready to step in.
"Hello guys! Is this a private rave or some strangers may also join in?"

Still hallucinating, Lady Christianna looked at Volodja with pleading pink eyes, but saw her father instead, and begged, "Save him Daddy. Please. Love him." She then staggered through the portal onto the plane. "Home alone," She mumbled as she appeared in the cargo bay of the aircraft, thereupon she promptly fell unconscious to the ground.
