"Now, as we have the agreement about our… priorities," Taffer said, flashing a slight smile, "I think we're ready for action and we better start it right now before our crazy Doctor becomes even more crazy and nervous. I'm setting the course to Deer Mountain. This direction will look natural as if we're going to reach the nearest inhabited settlement in Alaska. Once we reach the mountain it will be a good time for BJ to jump off with the ATV and Vo closely following. I'm pretty sure our ship is still closely watched so this move won't go unnoticed. But it will switch their attention and let us release our two birds. We'll gain some altitude as if we need it to fly over the mountain. But this way we will also let Marcel and Lena fly over longer distance. Once they take off to create some DearBear surprise, the ship will descend again, this time behind the mountain and that's where I, Volodya and Lady will drop, hidden behind the mountain too. The ship will take the direction further northeast towards Anchorage but ready to turn around for an attack. As for our tactics on the ground, I think it's very simple. We'll improvise depending on what we see there. After Marcel and Lena will do their part, BJ and Vo go in to investigate, or they can switch the attention for themselves to let us infiltrate, or we all can play turns in creating various distractions to let Lady come unnoticed. We'll see when we get there. If there are no other suggestions, then I think we should get ready to drop. I'll go see Mahoney. I hope he can find something like skis or snowshoes for those of us who will go on foot."

Post by Lena Marr on Jul 2, 2016 14:36:44 GMT
Once BJ Starr and Vo Kshaa were launched on their ATVs, Lena Marr couldn't wait to get into her flight suit, although it wasn't lost on her the silence that hung in the air between the two before they left. As Lena and Marcel dressed in their flight suits, she saw that BJ sadly stared longingly with big blue diamond eyes at Vo as he prepared his ATV after first making sure hers was travel ready, but the whole time neither said a word to each other. Still, it was obvious to Lena that BJ was still head over heels in love with Vo, although Lena couldn't get a read on his feelings for her, for Irathiants always seemed so stoic to Lena and therefore their body language and facial expressions were always less revealing to Lena as well. Just before BJ and and Vo left on their ATVs, Lena shouted in a jocular manner, "Good luck BGF... and you too Vo! Don't you two do anything I wouldn't do, which pretty much leaves you full reign to do whatever you want to!" As the two ATVs disembarked, Marcel reached over with one hand, grabbing one cheek of her shapely rear end and gave it a loving squeeze, which she responded to with the expected yelp of surprise and pleasure, although she wasn't really surprised but was always pleased with Marcel's affectionate attention. They finished dressing in their flight suits, then Lena with a wicked grin on her pretty chalk white face, rushed to Vigilant's outside hatch and dove out the door, yelling behind her, "Hurrrry uppp Slowpokkkeeeeee! Lena waited to the last possible minute before deploying her wings, loving the wind in her face but then leaving a trail of wind blown snow after her wings opened close to the ground. When she had been a indentured child prostitute in Lima, her only respite had been to climb to the roof of her orphanage brothel, watching the elegant birds from her perch freely gliding in the wind, wishing she was one of them - before the headmistress would yell at her that her next customer was waiting. Back then, she never imagined she would be able to fly like them, and she reveled in the experience. Lena raised her altitude, the flight suit reacting like an extension of her body as it was interlinked with her EGO implant, so reacted to her wishes at the speed of thought. Pride, one of the many voices in her head, was in the control booth as her EGO psyche, and was positively beaming as Lena performed loops in the sky until suddenly, she spotted the object of their search - the three storied beast that was an amalgamate of a deer and bear, obviously created when the area was terra-formed during the Pale Wars. Not knowing if they were being monitored by the enemy, but still wanting to let Marcel know what she was up to, Lena contacted her lover through their private communication channel saying, "Got the beer, so I'm bringing it home now!" Lena flew towards the creatures face getting within a few feet of one large dark brown eye to get it's attention, so close she could see her reflection in it, which she did as it uttered a mighty roar that sprayed her with it's spit, making her quickly backpedal to avoid its huge snapping jaws as it lunged at her. Soon it was following her towards the thirty foot tall glowing fence around the enemy's complex, when suddenly her flight suits wings began to tremble as she began to lose altitude at an alarming rate. "Pride! What the drek?" Thought Lena to her EGO psyche as she found herself plummeting to the ground like some modern day Icarus. "She's gone - just disappeared!" Answered a frantic Hope through the telepathic link they shared, "Sloth and Gluttony are gone too! I think the brain virus got them! And the rest of us our just floating like there's no gravity in here and can't get to the control booth! You need to take manual control of the flight suit." "Well that explains why I'm no longer tired or hungry! Okay, taking manual control," Quipped Lena with a wicked smile, which quickly disappeared as she suddenly couldn't remember HOW to take manual control although she had many times in the past, being one who preferred to do things for herself rather than always relying on her EGO, so she virtually yelled into her EGO communicator, "Mayday! Mayday! Going doooown!" Luckily, Lena glided into a freezing cold but soft snow drift, resulting in only a concussion and no broken bones, but she had lost her SMG and her helmet, and a trickle of pink blood trailed down her forehead and onto her alabaster face, as she communicated through her EGO to Marcel, "I'm okay, go on with the mission Pooh Bear, I'll - " Then suddenly she found herself in the middle of a huge shadow, and as her unblinking blue eyes were drawn skyward, she saw the monstrous foot of the bear-like beast descending upon her, saying before she blacked out, "Scratch that, definitely NOT okay..."

Post by Marcel Lestrange on Jul 2, 2016 19:10:06 GMT
Marcel Lestrange always considered himself to be a reasonable man who is able to set his priorities right. Lena Marr's well being became his top priority ever since they became partners in love and crime. Seeing Lena dive out from "Vigilant" made Marcel follow her immediately. Everything seemed to be fine. Lena flew flawlessly with her wing suit and Marcel ALMOST started to think that things were going to be easy this time. But then he saw Lena dashing downwards and heard her yelling: "Mayday! Mayday! Going doooown!" Seeing Lena's crash landing made him to freeze for a one tenth of a millisecond, but when the snow cloud, caused by Lena's glide, vanished, Marcel could see her almost intact and could hear her EGO message: "I'm okay, go on with the mission Pooh Bear, I'll - Scratch that, definitely NOT okay..." Reason why Lena was not okay, was a huge mutated bear was approaching her. That same bear they were supposed to lure to the fence of mad Doctor Faru's facility was about to eat his precious Honeypot! Merde! Marcel could not let that to happen, so he decided to follow his priorities, attack right away and help his beloved Lena at any cost. That is why Marcel nosedived and rammed mutant bear at full speed and slammed bears snout with his well aimed armoured fist, causing bear to baffle, stagger and land to his big hairy butt. Unlike the monster bear, Marcel maintained balance thanks to one of his other traits he was proud of - his well trained body, which helped him to place his wing suit under his strong will and obey him. Marcel flung upwards right after smashing in, made a circle above the bear and dived again. This time Marcel grabbed one of bear's ears and pulled it, causing bear to roar from pain and anger. Bear tried to hit him with one of his huge paws but Marcel swerved and huge bear paw swung harmlessly through the air. "I am going to rescue Lena first. Mademoiselle Starr has to wait here, until we are done" he announced through communication system. "Any objections, good doers? If you have, then I suggest to...keep them to yourselves and do something useful instead, like getting Lena a gun, so she could defend herself. I know that she is self sufficient but she will be even more self sufficient when she is armed and dangerous. Move your asses, s'il vous plaît!" After saying that Marcel tilted his wing suit and headed towards the bear once more. Bear rose and tried to grab him with both of his paws this time, forcing Marcel to dodge to avoid getting squashed by bear's deadly grip. He swung past standing beast, turned around in the air and this time he hit bear's horns. Another roar. Another attempt to hit Marcel. Another miss. Another turnaround. Another attack. From the distance Marcel's fight with the beast resembled the situation when enormous bear gets stung by a huge irritated bee who tries to protect his beehive. Marcel was fast, dangerous and damn persistent, not leaving the bear alone. Not for a single minute. Pooh Bee just kept flying and more important - he kept stinging, punching, kicking and so on, so on, and by doing that, he also lured monstrous bear away from his beloved Honeypot.

Post by Lady Christianna on Jul 3, 2016 8:58:54 GMT
Behind the mountain as the Vigilant descended, now blocked from any communication or detection signals, the infiltration team dropped from the cargo bay's outer latch to the ground below, landing somewhat hard; except for Lady Christianna who floated gently to the ground looking like a ghostly angel descending to Earth. She floated a foot over the ground, which made her about the same height as the two men who were her companions, Volodja Uljanov and their team leader Taffer. After Lady had determined that neither man had broken any appendages in the drop, she turned to Taffer and asked with an enigmatic smile as she watched the two men don their snowshoes, "What now Chief?" Meanwhile on her ATV, BJ Starr had turned to see how far Vo Kshaa was from her as he followed when she saw Lena Marr plummet from the sky like some fallen angel, then heard shortly after Marcel Lestrange's communication, "I am going to rescue Lena first. Move your asses, s'il vous plaît!" "Cheese and crackers!" Exclaimed BJ, turning her ATV modified for traveling swiftly on the tundra, "I can't let that varmint have Lena for a snack! I'm going back for her!" As Marcel flew and punched the three storied beast luring it away from the unconscious Lena, BJ rode up without reducing speed and with one hand grabbed Lena by the collar of her flight suit hefting Lena in front of her over the seat of the ATV, then before the bear like creature took notice, put on the gas as she urged her vehicle forward at even greater speed. Soon BJ passed a squadron of Assaultrons on snowmobiles going out of the enemy's compound to confront the monster, who ignored BJ as she drove in, detecting that she was a synthetic person and therefore assuming she was no threat. "I understand the critters not stopping for me as I'm not a real person, but why ignore Lena - unless she is dead," Wondered BJ in alarm, but then a low moan from Lena reassured her that Lena was indeed alive, so BJ wondered again to herself, "Why are they not alarmed about Lena, unless they are assuming she is my prisoner!" As BJ stopped her ATV in front of the enemy compound's main door and as if on cue, two Assaultrons came out with weapons powered up, one of which said in a halting robotic voice, "The Creator is awaiting for you below in the main atrium Designate: Belle Starr. You may bring your prisoner. Follow us."

Kaj made sure the course to Deer Mountain, was indeed set as Taffer, BJ, Lady, Marcel, Lena and Vo headed to get things ready for when their respective teams would be needed. I of course followed Lady so I could spend a little time with her while she changed into whatever warm gear she would be wearing for her mission, and we took a couple minutes to just enjoy each other's company, as we do whenever possible and in whatever way possible that time and privacy permit.
As the Vigilant reached the mountain foothills, BJ jumped off it's exit ramp with her ATV and Vo very shortly after. When the Vigilant gained enough altitude Marcel and Lena dove out the flight hatch. After they disembarked the ship continued on it's path until it got behind the mountain where it started to descend to a safe drop zone for Taffer, Volodja to disembark and make their way on foot to the base. As the Vigilant rose over and started to descend behind the mountain, Lady and I joined Taffer and Volo in the Cargo Bay as Taffer was going over some final preperations for their departure.
After helping with whatever I could, I leant against a wall and Lady leant back into me with my arms wrapped lovingly around her, while Volodja and Sandy did their own sort of couple time and see-you-soons, until Taffer said it was time to get in place and ready for their drop. Hearing that, I turned Lady to face me as I lifted my helm so she could see my masked face and therefor my eyes.
As she saw my love for her, I leant down and forward and kissed Lady, then once again told her to be careful and not as reckless as her husband. Then just before letting her go, I kissed her again even more passionately this time. Next I watched her as she joined the other two, and then they jumped out of the hatch when it was time. I continued to watch until shortly after the hatch door was once again closed.
Then I said to Sandy, who was also still watching the closing door, "The Constantines have opted to stay on the Bridge until we need to assemble the strike-team and they will join us then. According to Lexy: Kimmel, Lu and Archer are currently all three in the Mess Hall. So I will be in the armory talking with Mahoney and preparing whatever equipment our strike-team will need, as any vehicles we may decide to use are already prepared, including the mechs if we decide to use them. Besides I find going through and checking weaponry can sometimes help me keep focus and stay calm, even if I am only calm on the surface."
After I contacted Kaj to make sure he would have a security team prepared to join my strike-team if needed, I headed to the armory to start working on preparing everything for when the main strike team would be needed, knowing that it wouldn't be long before the soldier in Sandy caused her to join me in the armory to go over the preparations, just like the soldier in me must always be prepared as well. While all of that was happening the ship started on it's path further northeast towards Anchorage, but Kaj kept it ready to turn around for an attack as the soldier in him knew that no matter how unlikely that attack was, it was still possible so it was best to be prepared just in case. Meanwhile Atika monitored what was happening with the teams outside the ship, whenever they were in range.

Sandy Bell gave Volodja a passionate kiss before he left, but one tinged by sadness. Ever since they were reunited in South America, it seemed that Fate was determined to keep them apart as much as possible. As he disappeared from view jumping from the Vigilant's outside hatch, Sandy once again wondered if their life would not be better in a more peaceful line of work, like that of an ark hunter, where all they had to worry about was the dangerous fauna and the greedy competition at an ark fall. No more diabolical evil masterminds with their seemingly endless minions and world conquering plans, just plain old smash and grab, with a beer at The Crater when the day was done. Furthermore, there always seemed to be an equally endless number of these world beater villains that the Protectors were obliged to stop. Sandy would be the first to admit the Bay Area Protectors were needed in today's post-apocalyptic world, but sometimes she just wanted to scream, "Stop the world, I want to get off!" She was still thinking of Volodja and her going off into the sunset together, still living a life of adventure, but one centered on themselves rather than others, when suddenly Atticus addressed her breaking her mental reverie as the Vigilant's outside hatch closed. "The Constantines have opted to stay on the Bridge until we need to assemble the strike-team and they will join us then. Besides I find going through and checking weaponry can sometimes help me keep focus and stay calm, even if I am only calm on the surface." Sandy nodded her blond head with a grim look on her pretty tan face, then proceeded to the mess hall to brief her three team mates on the mission timetable. She then grabbed a coffee-to-go and a Danish, proceeding to the ship's armory to join her commanding officer, Atticus Batman, in a final check of the equipment needed for the mission.

On the mess deck, Archer had her feet kicked up on a table reading a large book reflecting her studious patience especially involving a warrior spirit. She was reading a religious tome filled with laws, exceptions, and lies about how to behave. It was Rolak Vosh's Castithan translation of the Sun Tzu, or Sun Tzu's The Art of War. Quietly she nodded at some knowledge then turned a page before having a sip of coffee.
Sandy Bell got Archer's attention for an update. After a glance at her timepiece on the inside of the wrist a student returned to her book.

Post by Vo Kshaa on Jul 3, 2016 22:36:30 GMT
As they dropped from the Vigilant, Vo swerved to the side to imitate a botched landing so that BJ could have some leeway. His landing brought a big cloud of snow into the air, so he had to blindly skid downhill for sometime, following the terrain map Shirra was projecting on his retina until he could finally see what was going on ahead of him. That's was the time when he heard Lena's Mayday signal and BJ's voice saying she's going to help her. This was not planned, but Vo knew that was the only decision BJ could make if she was sharing Belle's mindset, in which Vo was sure. All he could do was to follow her and see if he could help with anything in these ever-changing conditions.
When he arrived at Lena's landing spot, BJ was already gone and she took Lena with her. The beast was trying to follow their trace but Shirra had informed Vo there were a lot of moving targets ahead. With his enhanced vision, he could see clouds of snow rising from their snowmobiles. He also saw BJ's blue dot passing through the squadron without any hiccup as she continued on her way towards the compound.
"Taf, BJ's going to the compound alone with injured Lena. The beast is following her but there's a squadron of robots going to intercept it. BJ passed them flawlessly though. It seems our beast have attracted their attention sooner than we expected. What shall we do?"
There was no reply from Taffer on that message as his group was likely out of communicating range or observing radio silence. So Vo had to make the decision himself.
"The beast will keep this squad busy for a while," he sent to Marcel, "Let's flank them and continue our work with the defense grid. With our beast falling behind, we'll have to create another distraction. Instead of playing bad cop and good cop we'll play dumbass and smartass. I'll be the dumbass and I'll reach the main entrance and have some argument with the guard to keep them busy. You'll be the smartass and use the distraction to sneak in and disable the grid."
With that said, he turned his ATV around to move sideways from the approaching assaultron squad to keep away from them and then he made a wide arc towards the entrance. He put a protection spike down knowing it wouldn't last long if the guards open fire on him, but it would be enough to turn his Blur on and get away.
"Hey you out there!" He shouted towards the gate, "I was promised a replacement for my girl in exchange of leaving you alone! But once she knew she's a synth, she just ran off to her creator! That's not a fair play! I want my girl back!"

The landing was rather hard for Taffer and Volodja, but the snow and their shields did a good job in absorbing the shock.
After Lady had determined that neither man had broken any appendages in the drop, she turned to Taffer and asked with an enigmatic smile as she watched the two men don their snowshoes, "What now Chief?"
Taffer moved his hand drawing an arc in the air with his finger pointing towards the compound, "Around the mountain, then towards the compound, keeping our friends' path in view but not crossing it, keeping low profile and avoiding detection or confrontation."
He quickly checked his set of weapons which looks like his usual set but with some upgrades from their last venture in the Capital of Votanis Collective: a Flesh Harvester was playing a role of a high-range sniper rifle, his trusty Carbine was still working as both an assault rifle and a middle-range sniper, A new upgraded TACC Autopistol as his sidearm and a Shanjifyo charge blade he got long ago by "persuading" a Thorn Liro vending machine to sell it for the minimal price possible. After he was sure everything was still functioning, he led his squad to their goal while keeping the distance from other team members but watching their progress through the scope of his sniper rifle. He saw Lena descending and he hear Vo's question but ordered his team to keep silent until absolutely necessary so that they wouldn't be detected.
They saw Vo leaving the view as he turned away from the beast while the beast engaged the squad of assaultrons.
"Do you remember Ray Bradbury's story "A Sound of Thunder"? They were traveling in time and hunting dinosaurs in it for fun but they were killing them the exact moment they were going to die anyway of natural causes so that their premature death wouldn't alter the timeline. We'll do something similar. Each time the beast attacks one of the robots, we'll shoot it down. This way it will look natural and we won't catch the attention. Note that those robots have snowmobiles at their disposal we might want to use later to finally reach the compound with the beast in tow. If I know Vo, they will likely do something about the defense grid, so our initial plan will still work with the only difference that only Lady Christianna will stay unnoticed with everyone else working as a massive distraction. Now take your aim and pick your targets. Let's even the odds for our furry friend."
With that said Taffer engaged his Cloak and fired a charged burst into an assaultron, breaking its shield and weakening it with fire nanites right before the beast landed on it and finished it off with its paws.

Post by Volodja Uljanov on Jul 4, 2016 8:21:00 GMT
Volodja Uljanov slid tip of his tongue over his upper lip because it still tasted of Sandy's lipstick and replied: "I have read that one, but have to remind us to be as moderate as possible, because I remembered another story. Not Bradbury's but Garry Kilworth's. It's called "Let's Go to Golgotha!" and speaks about time travel tourism as well. The tour operator of so called "Crucifixion Tour" also warns tourists that they must not do anything to disrupt history, so they better follow the Bible. When the crowd is asked whether to spare Jesus or Barabbas, the tourists must all join the call: "Give us Barabbas!" (A priest absolves them from any guilt for condemning Christ, so there is nothing to be afraid of). But when the moment comes, the protagonist suddenly realizes that the crowd condemning Jesus to the cross is composed entirely of tourists from the future, and local Jews are hiding at their homes because city of Jerusalem is practically taken over by tourists. We better be bloody careful when we act. Causing less harm is less bad than making a mayor mayhem." After saying that, Volodja took his sniper rifle, threw himself into the pile of snow nearby and started to crawl towards the nearest small hill which somehow looked awfully familiar to him...

Post by Lena Marr on Jul 4, 2016 9:21:23 GMT
As they entered the main door, the two Assaultrons led BJ Starr as she shouldered a semi conscious Lena Marr through the top compound of Dr. Faru's base, which was basically a huge open room filled with security and communication machines and monitors watched by fourth generation synths who barely noticed them as they did their duties. Each synth looked exactly like the other, and resembled a humanoid, with all of them armed with Votan blasters holstered at their sides. Standing at various posts were other Assaultrons, ready to leap into actions with their built in lasers and cloaking devices if the need arose. The temperature was still arctic cold inside, but neither the Synths nor the Assaultrons seemed to mind it, and BJ had to admit that her parka was unnecessary to her as well, for the extreme cold when she was outside hadn't bothered her a whit either since she was a synthetic person. As they headed to a large enclosed cylinder in the middle of the open building, BJ heard something from one of the monitors that made her artificial heart skip a beat and her blue diamond eyes grow wide. BJ heard her beloved Vo Kshaa's voice and saw his image at the gate on a monitor yell, "Hey you out there! I was promised a replacement for my girl in exchange of leaving you alone! But once she knew she's a synth, she just ran off to her creator! That's not a fair play! I want my girl back!" BJ was ready to leap into action to save Vo, for even though he professed not to love her but the woman she was patterned from, she was still drawn to him by all the same personal qualities as the original Belle Starr, so the hand not helping to steady Lena inched it's way to her holstered Eternal Wolverine pistol, but was stopped short when she heard the not-so-semi-conscious Lena whisper to her, "Steady BGF, Vo knows what he's doing." The Synth at the monitor said to the one next to him, "Irathient barbarian at the gate," Whereupon the other one laughed a very human sounding laugh before replying, "Send out Po." That comment made BJ worry less, and even brought a smile to BJ's beautiful freckled face as Po was the smallest and most harmless of the Teletubbies she remembered - or thought she remembered - from her childhood when she watched the pre-Pale Wars children's vid. The Protectors had met Laa-Laa, the yellow teletubbie only hours earlier, and it had proven to be a simple synth replica of the fictional character, whose television in its stomach merely relayed Dr. Faru's warning message to them. She assumed that Po also was no danger, but again simply a messenger, but Lena frowned, for she was much more worldly then BJ and knew that the worst dangers often came in small packages. The central cylinder opened, revealing a twisting winding escalator headed down, which the two women were led onto by their accompanying Assaultrons. As they wound their way down for several minutes, the two woman exchanged whispers as Lena pretended to still be faint. "What's the plan, Lena?" Asked BJ anxiously. "I get close enough, I take out our lovely host with Stickee," Replied Lena frankly, her chalk white hand reflexively going towards her bosom, where she secreted her switchblade knife in her bra, then widely gestured at the Assaultrons, adding, "You just take care of Tweedle-Dumb and Tweedle Dumber." BJ frowned as she mumbled in a low tone, "Not sure that is a great plan..." "Classic cut off the head of the snake," Lena whispered with her wicked grin in place as her unblinking sky blue eyes regarded BJ in their icy stare. "Relax, this what I do for a living." "I don't know," Protested BJ in low tone, "I've never seen anything go that easy since I've been hanging out with the Protectors." Lena's wicked grin grew bigger as she retorted, "You're not with the Protectors now, you're with Lethal Lena!" Suddenly the cylinder grew transparent, and they both marveled at the panoramic view of the underground city. The transportation tube opened upon a high tier of the city, where a skinny almost emaciated Castithan woman in a half mask and white robes met them with open arms. Both ladies immediately recognized the Creator - Dr. Faru, the late Governor Skarr's sister, and the mad villainess of the piece! "Welcome my friends," Proudly began a smiling Dr. Faru, "Welcome to my creation, Synth City!"

Lady Christianna almost asked, "Ray who?" but stifled the question before it was asked, hating to appear ignorant of something even when she was. At eighteen years old, she was of that age that she believed she already knew everything that was really important, but image still counted, so she couldn't appear to not know something even if she thought it wasn't important to know anyway. Furthermore, Lady was a watcher rather than a reader, believing real life was more relevant and much more entertaining than anything springing from the mind of some fiction author. She disliked science fiction in particular, for she definitely couldn't see it's relevance to her day-to-day survival in the post-Apocalyptic world she lived in, and actually detested time travel stories for they made her head hurt with their paradoxes that were merely mind games to her. Lady liked her time linear and dependable, at least as long as you kept track of it. In her younger years, she had always watched others lead their lives, measuring them through the instrument of time, and until recently, not taking an active role in disturbing the flow of time or others lives. Since she joined the Protectors, however, Lady found herself playing a more active role on the stage of life, and in many ways, LIKING her expanded role. With her chalk white skin and white fur lined white parka in the snow, Lady was almost invisible as she lay next to Taffer asking, "Could phase through fence, open gate - under ten minutes. Want?"

Post by Sandy Bell on Jul 4, 2016 13:49:01 GMT
Meanwhile, Sandy Bell gathered with the rest of the assault team - Frankie Archer, Griffov Kimmel, Lu Kshaa, and the Irathient twins, Atika and Attila Constantine - in the cargo bay of the Vigilant, waiting for Lady's husband, Atticus Batman, to address them. The group was busy with various activities, checking weapons, reading, or even just talking among themselves, so Sandy as second-in-command, took it upon herself to focus their attention.
"Tet hut!" Shouted Sandy, standing at attention as if awaiting inspection,"Commander on deck!"
Like Sandy, some had military experience, and stood at attention, whereas other just looked at her strangely, but still grew silent waiting for Commander Batman to speak. Sandy forced herself not to get angry at how some of her team mates reacted so casually, trying not to see it as a lack of respect for the Commander, for she knew they all did respect the renowned Harbinger of Death, but she had to remind herself that she was no longer a Captain in the EMC army during the Pale Wars and should not expect military protocol like she was used to. The Bay Area Protectors were not traditional military, but a loose family of volunteers with perhaps a para-military structure at best but really more of a informal group of mercenaries brought together for the mutual purpose of do some good in a particular mission, usually to stop some would-be world beater. The mercenaries were paid in a number of ways - some with script, but others with the good feeling of doing good. Sandy like to think she was one of the latter, but was pragmatic enough to admit that she enjoyed having three meals a day, a place to sleep every night, and a steady paycheck.
When Atticus had everyone's attention, he ordered in a gruff voice, "Sound off if you have any equipment preferences!"
A frown crossed Sandy's pretty tanned face as she took measure of her equipment. She was wearing her camouflaged light armor with an Ironclad shield, covered with loose thermal white winter wear. For weapons, she carried her Piper Assault Rifle, which she had used in the past even as a sniper rifle because of its modified scope and barrel; her bio-nano detonator; and her Wolverine pistol with fire nanos strapped to her leg. She had also picked up a half dozen frag grenades and a long ranged missile launcher from the ship's armory, so she felt ready to go, only asking for one additional piece of equipment.
"I could use one of those modified ATVs, sir. I'd like to stay very mobile if possible, going where I'm needed, and - " Sandy grinned adding to lighten the moment, "I have got to have some sort of transportation to haul my sorry ass and all this damn equipment around!"

Volodja Uljanov was laying on the top of the small hill, pressing the butt of his sniper rifle against the shoulder and waiting Taffer's signal to open fire. His moment of hesitation (Ever since Volodja had to wound his friend with the sniper rifle to save friend's life, he had a moment of awkwardness and hesitation when he had to snipe a sentient being) was already passed, he made a compromise with himself and found that inner peace, needed for sniping. Ground under him seemed to be sort of...unstable, but maybe it was only thanks to Volodja's imagination. Really low scratching noise behind his back made him quickly turn around and point the sniper rifle towards the crawling object.
"Calme-toi, Volodja. Ici Marcel," whispered the object. "The eagle has landed."
"More like a vulture," said Moira to Sophie through the EGO link and both virtual girls giggled.
"I am calm, Marcel," whispered Volodja back to him. "And I already saw that you are here. But you seem to be abandoning your mission by being down here not up in the air."
"Veux-tu te taire et m'écouter! Just shut up and listen! Despite the fact that Lena is captured and taken inside, I am REALLY calm and I am about to punish anyone who had anything to do with it. Including you. But you can avoid that by helping me to rescue her. Like finding the way in. But I might put my calmness aside, if you insist."
Ground really seemed to be unstable after Marcel's heavy remark. Or was it still an imagination?
"Any suggestions how to do it, Marcel?" asked Volodja politely. "And will you be so kind and get off the hill. Ever since you appeared here, I have a feeling that this hill will collapse under extra weight you added."
"I am not leaving, Volodja. And you are supposed to be the one with a huge thinking capacity," grinned Marcel. "So for you, finding a way inside should be, as Mademoiselle Belle would say, easy pea..."
The hill under Volodja and Marcel collapsed and both men fell into the moist and cold darkness, not allowing Marcel to finish his line.
BUMP!
"Marcel!" said a voice in darkness.
"It is Volodja," told another voice not very eagerly. "Where are you?"
"Underneath," said Volodja in an underneath sort of the way.
"Underneath WHAT, Sacre Bleu?!"
"YOU," replied Volodja. "Get up!"
"Oh!" said Marcel and got himself up as slowly as possible, putting pressure on Volodja' body with his every limb he could. "Where are we for real?"
"Well. We are still underneath," said Volodja and let out sigh of relief when Marcel finally lifted his weight off him. "Underneath the ground and inside someone's home. That hill looked familiar for sure and now I know, why. It was an entrance to a burrow, belonging to a representative of rodent side of local wildlife. Everything was fine until your uninvited appearance. You acted as the last straw to break the back on unfortunate camel."
"You mean that we are in some sort of a mole hole?"
"I don't think it's a mole. Probably some sort of vole or maybe a shrew. They were quite common here. But unlike ones who used to populate Alaska before our world turned to be post apocalyptic, this one seems to be really huge. On the other side...after seeing that three stories high dearbear, I am not surprised at all. By the way...unlike moles, voles and shrews don't hibernate, so I believe that we accidentally stumbled on the drill Taffer was looking for."

When I had everyone's attention, I ordered in a gruff voice, "Sound off if you have any equipment preferences!"
Attila chimed in with, "I think most, if not all, of us already got the necessary gear from the Quartermaster. However a vehicle is a good idea."
I said, "With the agreed upon current plan, Kaj will turn the Vigilant around after we are far enough away to have hopefully fooled Faru and her Synth City into believing that we did indeed leave the area. Then we will fly back while avoiding their radar with all the means at our disposal. The Vigilant will then take up a position near where we dropped off Taffer's team, so the mountain provides us with cover from sensors but we will be able to hear any message or hear or even "see" any signal that our friends send us.
After all, given Faru's threats of a doomsday device, it was decided that the stealth approaches were the best solution this time, even if I do want a chance to destroy something as well. So the strike team is the "reserve" option. Therefor we give our friends some time to do their thing and trust them to find a way to contact us if and when needed, and knowing Taffer one of them probably also has a flare gun or firework spike in case they feel that is their best option to contact us. Hopefully they can deactivate any doomsday device, if it does indeed exist, and at least some of the perimeter defenses before we need to assault the base. However as we are a strike team, vehicles are a must, so we can strike hard and fast. So we will all use appropriate vehicles or, if you have the proper training and want to then, a couple of you can use mechs.
That said, we MUST still be ready for "when" we need to attack. So take one last chance to visit the Mess or the Quartermaster if needed. Then come back here and prepare your vehicles and make yourselves comfortable here in the Cargo Bay so we are ready for when needed. There are several cases of MREs and plenty of insulated canteens of water on the other side of the cargo bay. So if you pass on the chance to visit the Mess now, but get hungry while we are waiting at the ready, feel free to help yourselves. I also suggest we put some MREs and canteens in our vehicles, in case they are needed as well and definitely make sure all of the vehicles we will be using are supplied with a full first aid kit as we always seem to need at least one.
When we are called in, I will be taking my Mech and leading the way, with all of you following in an assault formation. Of course when we do go in, we will go in fast and hard making sure our presence is very well known to their remaining security to give our other teams time to sneak out safely. So we will attack hard and keep driving forward until the opposition has stood down or our friends have ALL returned!"
